    I recently purchased an LG #WT6105CW Washer & Dryer set. It's been sitting there because even with the instruction pamplet I still felt totally confused. But, then I discovered your video and I am so thankful for your demo and all the info you shared in how to operate the washing machine and set various cycle settings for best performance! Now I can finally and confidently wash my clothes with joy!!! :)

    This is fantastic, thank you for this video. I got the WT7400C and it's dryer version for $1417 after taxes thanks to deals, but was concerned with some of the reviews complaining about "low water levels" Seeing your suggestion about the heavy duty + turbo wash puts my mind at ease, as I didn't want to just use the "deep fill" every single time. Seeing it actually in action puts my mind at ease! This is literally the only video on this model I can find that gives this kind of a rundown.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad to know the video is helpful. We find the washer works well for us and there are work arounds for the low water level of the Normal cycle (Other cycles use plenty of water). Most folks think more water means better performance, but it’s a balance. Too much water just causes things to float and reduces turnover. The best performance occurs when there’s just enough water to barely cover the clothes. I hope you enjoy the new machines. 😃

      My new LG washer did not add enough water to my blue jeans being washed. Then after spinning the clothes we’re to wet. I tried the spin only cycle and had to hold the Spin Button for 3 seconds before it turned on. I had to find a youtube video to learn how to do that. If your mattress pad has a waterproof membrane, it’s difficult for the water to escape during the spin segment. Once the Bedding cycle is complete, often times I’ll turn the cover inside out and run a SPIN Only cycle using a medium spin speed.

      I have found "normal" cycle to be almost completely useless. Tiny loads only, and cold water else it suds up way too much even with minimal soap. Very frustrating. I use Deep for almost everything. Another major complaint is this stupid agitator-spinning-with-tub cycle it wastes time on; I think it's to ensure clothes are saturated that may get stuck above water...but... it's rarely useful or needed. Will likely try a different brand next time, the tub spin wastes too much time that I don't have to spare.

    Wow! Wish I had found this video when I first got my washer. Watched it once. Then a second time to take notes. And a third time to make sure I hadn’t missed anything. And finally sent the link to others I know with an LG top loader.
    My biggest complaint for the 3 years I’ve had it was too little water. Will be trying out the speedwash + turbo cycle.
    I do have an issue that the cycle wheel stays all lit up and doesn’t let me pick a cycle for several spins around until it finally works. Sounds like an expensive fix so will be gentle with the dial and as long as it eventually lets me choose a cycle I’ll not call repairman. Someone else mentioned this issue in the comments section so guess I’m not alone.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deborahgreen6795 I do sometimes wonder if an agitator would make a difference when it comes to clothes floating; however, what I can tell you with this machine is that using too much water will cause items to float, which results in poor wash performance. Selecting the correct cycle is the key with this machine and I recommend avoiding WaterPlus unless you’re washing things that are very absorbent (ie, a fluffy cotton blanket or towels).
      As far as slow movements, I recommend reviewing some of my cycle videos to see if your washer is functioning similarly or at least try a SpeedWash and watch the cycle all the way through. Hope that helps!

    I really like this washer! 🌟I watched this video and sent it to my family (hubby and two adult sons) prior to first use. I followed your recommendations to a T! 🌟My 3 guys are stinky so they wash their stuff on heavy duty. We used warm and cold for them and their cloths come out CLEAN and smells are gone. 🌟 Clothes are visibly cleaner with this washer and I notice much less dullness! Seriously whites and lights are brighter. I know for a fact we have been using too much detergent for years. I think that is also making a difference. 🌟Even without fabric softener clothes are fluffier and softer! Again I think it’s because there is less detergent residue. 🌟Our clothes are also drying more quickly so I’m in love with the energy savings in that way as well. 🌟I don’t get stinky so quick wash is adequate for me. 🌟I washed mixed load with towels and wash clothes in heavy duty and stuff that I thought was permanently stain isn’t actually permanently stained!!! Woo hoo! 🌟 My guys use liquid detergent . .. whatever brand is in sale including Kirkland brand. I use the eco detergent sheets. Performance is great! 🌟🌟🌟Thanks so so much for this video🌟🌟🌟

      Scrud is a bit more difficult to get rid of. You can try and run a few Tub Clean cycles, but the most effective way to get rid of it requires removing the tub for a thorough cleaning. Once cleaned, I recommend switching to a different detergent and/or softener (or at least use less) since they are likely the culprit.

      Glad the video was helpful! Shower curtains can be tricky. Fabric shower curtains and plastic shower liners are best washed using the Waterproof cycle. It’s helpful to put a bath towel on top to keep them from floating. I’ve also washed a fabric shower curtain using SpeedWash with decent results, but ultimately Waterproof is best. More videos to come so stay tuned. 😃
      Regarding the dryer, we didn’t get the matching dryer because our Whirlpool dryer from the 70’s had to be replaced a year earlier. Sorry!

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All rinses are cold with this machine. To achieve a warm rinse manually would be a bit of a headache. You’d need to cancel the cycle after the wash segment (once the water has drained and been spun out), and then run a new cycle with warm water selected (preferably one that uses enough water… Deep Wash would be a good option). At the end of that cycle’s wash segment, which would actually be what you’re using as a rinse, you’d need to run a SPIN ONLY cycle by pressing and holding the SPIN button for three seconds. Like I said… A bit of a headache. 🤣

      My guess is you didn’t hold the SPIN button long enough so it didn’t engage. If you hold the SPIN button for 3 (or more) seconds the machine will beep and 16 (minutes) will appear in the display. The default spin speed is HIGH, but you can toggle between the other speeds by quickly pressing the SPIN button. Then close the lid and press ⏯.

      Glad it was helpful. As far as how much detergent to use, I use liquid detergents. For greater than 1/2 a tub of clothes I fill to the 1 marker on the cap. For 1/2 tub or less, I use half that. Less is more with these high efficiency machines especially where less water is being used and detergents are pretty concentrated. A good indicator of using too much detergent is if you see lots of suds during the wash cycle. Suds should be minimal. Hope that helps!

    hi there, thank you for your video! Is there an option to soak a load?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The only soaking options are PreWash+Normal and the SOAK cycle. It would be great if LG added a downloadable cycle called "3 hour soak." The most common complaint I hear from folks about this machine is they can't soak clothes overnight by simply pausing the machine once the tub fills. Unfortunately LG built in a safety feature that drains the tub after 5 minutes of inactivity. It drains even if you leave the lid up or turn off power. Some folks allow the tub to fill and then pull the plug, but I don’t recommend that.

  • @willowbirch7
    @willowbirch7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video. Two questions: do you ever have leftover water in detergent tray? And what is the proper speed of the water when filling the tub? Mine seems to drool in. Would love to see a quick video of a normal filling speed. Checked hoses, filters etc and the machine is level.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Occasionally water does remain in the detergent tray after a cycle is complete. It’s perfectly normal. Be sure to pull the tray out and leave the lid up so the tub can dry out.
      As far as water filling slowly, ours only fills slowly if someone is using water elsewhere in the house because while we have good water pressure, we have low water volume. I have a bunch of full cycle videos posted that you should be able to see tub fills (there should be links in the video’s description). Looks like you did a bunch of solid troubleshooting. Perhaps try flushing the hot and cold water lines into a bucket to see if the issue is before the water inlets of the washer.

      The ColdWash feature is only available when selecting one of the following cycles: NORMAL, BEDDING, or SMALL LOAD (default on download position of the dial). If you want to wash clothes in cold water, you can always just select any cycle and change the water temperature to Cold or Tap Cold using the Temp. button. As I mentioned in the video, I don’t use the ColdWash feature because it runs for too long and uses a lot of energy. When I want to use cold water for the wash cycle, I just change the water temp. My first experience with the LG was very frustrating. I loaded what was a normal level wash for my old machine, set it on Heavy Duty did not use Turbo Wash or Normal Level. It took 2 hours. Conked out with an unbalanced load error. I had to remove almost all of the wet clothes into two bucckets and with the greatest of care loading the remaining items to get the best balance...then I had to babysit the damn washer as it reved up it's spin cycle. I am not sure whether it has a very finicky balance device but thing with slowly cycle up, stop and then begin a reverse cycle. It often took several tries to get the damn thing to balance but then I had to sit and watch the tub spool up to spped and sometimes it would only get up to half the top speed and shut down, Repeat the balancing exercise. Monitor the tub coming up to cycle and hope it wiould go to full speed. When it did, the spin at high speed would last forever. The only I liked about the high-speed spin cycle was the clothes were much dryer than my old machine. The instructions in this video was very helpful. I think I will get better performance out of my new machine but I would give anything to have my old Maytag washer back that lasted 21 years and was always reliable until the balance in the spin cycle finally had enough. The other thing I liked about my old machine was a good rinse cycle which came on after the first spin cycle and once the clothes had been rinsed the final spin cycle came on. If I had to rebalance a load it took about five minutes to get the load right. These cheap corporate bastards are just out to make lousy products that wear out in four to five years and have to be replaced.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I hear you. If you’re frequently getting unbalanced loads, check that the machine is properly leveled front to back and side to side, but not on the lid. Then run the Test Cycle and take notice of whether or not the tub is spinning off center during the rinse test. If it is not, the machine isn’t properly leveled and the leveling legs should be adjusted so the machine cannot rock in any direction. My other recommendation is to wash large or bulky items (ie, towels, small blankets) separately (you can wash a few of them together, but not with a lot of smaller random items) and use a low or medium spin speed. My machine rarely gets unbalanced using low or medium spin speed. Hope that helps! … and there are days I miss my old Maytag Commercial too!

      If your water valves and drain are built into a wall, you can insert the drain hose into the drain (not more than a few inches) and zip tie it to one of the water hoses to secure it. To prevent siphoning you don’t want an airtight seal when the hose in inserted into the drain. It’s OK to cut back the end of the drain hose if necessary.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wrinkles in cotton t-shirts is pretty normal and they usually come out when the clothes are put into the dryer. If you air dry clothes, you can place them flat to dry, or place them flat, hand iron while still damp, and then hang them up to dry. To avoid wrinkles in anything (t-shirts, dress shirts) you can use the Delicates cycle for small loads and change the soil level to Normal... just keep in mind you're limited on spin speed so things will take longer to dry. Deep Wash is another option since it uses a little more water and doesn't use TurboWash for the rinse segment.

    I wish you'd done one on the WT6105CW top load w/agitator. I too am ready to toss it out the door but it's brand new. 😞 I have found Deep Wash is the only way to get it to fill the tub on a full load. Other blogs have mentioned putting in some of the clothes already wet to trick the weight sensor, but that's extra work that I didn't want to have to do with a brand new washing machine. My lesson learned is never buy a washing machine that doesn't allow you to set the water level. My old GE washer was much better.

      I hear you. With my model I’ve found that the Normal cycle is the stingiest. Other cycles like Heavy Duty, Deep Wash, Bedding, etc. use plenty of water in most cases. I usually only need to select the WaterPlus option if there’s a very absorbent item in the load.

      Wow! I can’t say I’ve experienced low water pressure so thank you for sharing that. Have you ever put a pressure gauge on one of your faucets? Our pressure is roughly 70 PSI, but when someone flushes is a toilet or takes a shower, the issue isn’t water pressure but water volume (not enough water running through the pipes). If the washer is filling and someone flushes, it will start the wash segment and then sense there isn’t enough water. At that point it pauses and adds more water.

Either way, what you’re experiencing is normal. 😃

    Thanks for providing useful information. I have a problem with LG washing machine. There are so many stains especially on black colour clothes after washing. They are full of white stains and smell bad. I hand wash those again and put in Washing Machine to drain the water.
    Is there any solution of this issue?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว

      For starters, I recommend running a tub clean cycle to see if that solves both issues, but there are really two things happening here… white stains on dark clothes and those dreaded odors.
      Let’s start with the lint/stains:
      In my experience, we get white “stains” (either lint or soap residue or both) on black clothing when (A) A lint producing item (sock, towel) was accidentally included in the load; (B) A water repellent or sweat wicking item was included in the load, which prevented lint from escaping in the rinse water; (C) The previous load was heavy lint-producing items (cottons), but some of the lint was not completely rinsed from the tub (again usually due to a sweat wicking item); (D) I left a tissue in a pocket (aka, the exploding Kleenex); and/or (E) I used too much detergent.
      My solution to remove white stains/lint is to run a Rinse & Spin cycle (use this if the “stains” are from detergent) followed by placing the garments into the dryer with a dryer sheet for 30 minutes on the “Air Dry” cycle. That will remove lint and exploding tissues. Air Dry doesn’t use heat, but if you don’t have that feature on your dryer just use the lowest heat option.
      Odors can occur for a few reasons, but they’re a bit tricky to deal with. If your washer has an odor that is transferring to the clothes, run a tub clean cycle (or two) using a washing machine cleaner (Afresh, Tide Washing Machine cleaner, or another brand of washing machine cleaner… I’ve found just using bleach or white vinegar doesn’t work as well), then wipe clean the surrounding areas inside the tub (if you see mold or mildew anywhere like the detergent tray wipe with diluted bleach or white vinegar). Most importantly, be sure you’re leaving the lid up and detergent tray pulled out when the machine is not in use. Leaving the lid up and tray pulled out allows the tub to dry and will prevent future odors. If your washer is located in a damp or humid environment, it can be hard for the tub to completely dry out. Our washer lives in the basement, which is damp during summer. To conquer moisture I run a dehumidifier to keep humidity around 60%.
      If the odor is not in the tub and your clothes smell sour, it can occur when clothes are left in the tub for more than 24 hours or hanged to dry in a damp or humid environment. My other half likes me to hang dry her yoga pants and they sour during the summer months because they don’t dry fast enough. Blech! Sour smells can be hard to remove, but I’ve found a little baking soda added to the wash followed by using the Air Dry or low heat option on the dryer works most times. I don’t fully dry the items that she wants hang dried, but I use the dryer to help get them started. That way they dry before souring.
      I hope that helps!

    My wife and I are using washable diaper and we would like to make them soak overnight sometime with the appropriate detergent...
    Instead of using the bath to do so we were hoping to use the washer...
    So far I was not able to find an option that would let us do it...
    the closest thing I could do was start a cycle, add water plus, wait for the tub to be filled and press the pause button but the machine auto empty after 15-20 minutes...

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As you pointed out, the machine will drain the tub after a brief period of inactivity. It’s a safety feature to prevent the possibility of flooding your home. I’ve previously experimented to try and come up with an overnight soak, but was unsuccessful. As far as I know, there is nothing other than the SOAK option and prewash+Normal on the machine. As far as Downloadable cycles I thought there used to be a diapers cycle, but the closest cycles I see are for Baby Bibs, Children’s Wear, and Juice and Food Stains. The thing I’ve done before to create a mock ‘soak and hand wash’ is to choose a long running cycle like heavy duty or Children’s Wear (turn off TurboWash) add the SOAK option and an extra rinse. That will at least provide 2+ hours of wetness. Unfortunately, it will also waste a fair amount of water and electricity.

      Turn on the machine to your prefered cycle and let the machine start washing for just a few minutes. This will agitate the clothes with the detergent. Then I pause the machine and unplug from the outlet. When I finish soaking I plug it back and select my preferred cycle and it starts washing again. I do the soaking in the day hours just in case there would be a leak.

      The only soaking options with this model are to: 1) use the PreWash+Normal Cycle; or 2) Select a cycle and then press SPECIAL CARE to select SOAK, which adds a soaking segment prior to the selected wash cycle. The longest soak time can be achieved by selecting PreWash + Normal and then pressing the SPECIAL CARE button to add a SOAK. It would be great if LG added a downloadable cycle called "3 hour soak then wash."
      The most common complaint I hear about this machine is that you can't soak clothes overnight by simply pausing the machine after the tub fills. LG built in a safety feature that drains the tub after 5 minutes of inactivity. The tub will even drain if you pause the machine, leave the lid open, and turn the power off using the power button.
      Some folks have commented that they allow the tub to fill and then pause the machine and pull the plug in order to do a prolonged soak; however, I don’t recommend that. The safety feature is built in to prevent property damage should the machine leak.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You must have accidentally turned off the signal. Press the SIGNAL button a few times, which will turn it back on and adjust volume (pressing the button cycles through something like OFF-> On low-> On med-> On high-> OFF). Be sure not to hold the SIGNAL button for more than 3 seconds or you’ll turn on the control lock (CL, aka, child lock), which locks the display. Of course if you do, you can just press and hold the SIGNAL button again for 3 seconds to turn CL off.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The machine decides the wash time based on load size; however, 1/2 a tub will take 28-30 minutes using Normal, SpeedWash, or the Small Load cycles.

    • @daniell6610
      @daniell6610 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you normally only wash smaller loads of laundry, it shouldn't need too much time. Larger loads, however, the machine will assume it needs more time and adjust based on that. Basically, it uses sensors to figure out how much time it needs for that load and then goes from there.

    • @BruceAlanR

      That’s the top down sprayer that rinses the clothes when the TurboWash option is selected. If it’s consistently dripping (non-stop) when the machine is powered off, there’s likely an issue with the valve not closing.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately (and oddly) you cannot select a hot water temp with SpeedWash. If you wanted to use hot water with a cycle that would provide similar results, you could download SMALL LOAD from the app, add WaterPlus, select Hot for the water temp, and change the soil level to Normal. The display will show the cycle time as 59 minutes, but once it sense a small to medium sized load run time will change to 29-32 minutes which is comparable to the time of the Normal and SpeedWash cycles. It’s hard to believe how complicated LG has made doing laundry. 😂

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got the washer at the beginning of 2017 so you likely have the newer model with the “TurboDrum” (another trademarked buzzword). My guess would be that your machine functions very similarly and depending on the cycle you choose it automatically uses something similar to TurboWash. I don’t know for sure though, but if you watch a few of my wash cycle videos where TurboWash is used and notice similar performance you’ll know for sure.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately you cannot use HOT water with the DELICATES cycle. HOT is available for pretty much every cycle other than DELICATES. To emulate the DELICATES cycle, you should be able to select the NORMAL (or another cycle), de-select the TurboWash option, select hot water TEMP, select low or no SPIN, and whatever SOIL level you like.

    I just bought a new LG Washer like the one in this video. I put bleach in the bleach dispenser and it drains out before I turn the machine on. Is this normal? Where did the bleach go?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is normal. The bleach drains from the bleach cup down into the bottom of the outer tub (the white plastic tub that surrounds the stainless steel tub, aka spin basket). That way the bleach is diluted by water as the cycle starts and doesn’t make contact with garments at full strength.

    13:19 Hello! Great video! Is there anyway to soak clothes overnight?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a common question I receive, but unfortunately the machine will drain the tub after 5 minutes of inactivity in order to prevent the possibility of damage (flooding). You are limited to using the soak and pre-soak options which I know is frustrating.

    • @markhinrichs2085
      @markhinrichs2085 ปีที่แล้ว

      How about unplugging the machine overnight.

    • @thewhippingwhisk553
      @thewhippingwhisk553 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks to everyone for sharing ideas. While unplugging the machine is an option, I can’t recommend it since the tub draining after 5 minutes of inactivity is intended as a precautionary measure to prevent the possibility of flooding. My guess is LG incorporated this safety feature in case any seals dry out over time.
      For soaking, unfortunately, this machine is limited to 1) the Soak option, or (2) the Pre Wash+Normal cycle, or (3) adding the Soak option to the PreWash+ Normal cycle. You can also add the WaterPlus option to any of the combination three.

  • @user-wl4ew8ww8z

    Thanks for the helpful tips. My LG washer is new, not the same model as yours but mostly the same cycles. I couldn't figure out how to utilize the water plus option while using the normal setting. After load sensing and pausing the cycle, the water plus option simply doesn't light up and no water is added? Am I missing something here?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome. 😃 On our washer WaterPlus needs to be selected before the cycle is started. Additionally, if you choose the Normal cycle, selecting WaterPlus changes the cycle to Deep Wash… then, if you want even more water you can turn WaterPlus on again before starting the Deep Wash cycle; however, you should only need to select WaterPlus if it’s a large absorbent, bulky load.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I stand corrected! And I like being wrong because I learn something in the process! If I’m using WaterPlus for a bulky load, I usually select WaterPlus before starting the cycle; however you can select it during the wash cycle as you pointed out… or at least with some cycles. I did a test today… I ran a 13 lbs SpeedWash load. Ha! During the wash segment (about 8 minutes in and after the tub had stopped filling and was already washing) I paused the load, pressed WaterPlus, and started the load again. Voila! It added more water! I’m going to try and recreate what you did with the Normal cycle to see if I can explain what happened in your case. Could be timing, could be using Water Plus with Normal is attempting to change the cycle to DeepWash mid cycle… don’t know, but I’d like to find out. 😃

    • @user-wl4ew8ww8z
      @user-wl4ew8ww8z ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I chatted with an LG agent online and this person said that the water plus option can only be chosen BEFORE any wash cycle, not during. I was under the impression that on any most cycles (Normal included) you can pause anytime and add water. It even states this on the manual. I have the model 7150 CW.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol. My guess is the LG rep (or possibly a chatbot) have never used the machine and are reading from scripts. After further experimentation (and as you’ve pointed out) I’ve learned you can add the WaterPlus option during the sensing and washing segments of some cycles; however, it will not engage for the Normal cycle. I believe that is because selecting the WaterPlus option with the Normal cycle changes the cycle to Deep Wash. In my testing I was able to add WaterPlus during the sensing and washing segments of SpeedWash, Deep Wash, and Heavy Duty. The WaterPlus option is not available for the Bedding cycle though, which makes sense given how much water it uses.

    • @user-wl4ew8ww8z
      @user-wl4ew8ww8z ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a shame you can't use it on the normal cycle. Adding another 3 to 4 gallons of water whenever you like would have taken care of some complaints that it uses very little water. Deep wash water is too much for some loads and the agitation / turnover is not going to be good as a result.

    Will the bleach get dispensed on any cycle, or only on certain ones?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you’ve added bleach via the bleach cup it will be included in whatever cycle is run next. That’s because the bleach isn’t actually dispensed. When bleach is added via the bleach cup it drains down to the bottom of the outer tub below the stainless tub (aka, spin basket). That way bleach doesn’t come in direct contact with clothes until it has been diluted by water added in the wash segment. 😃👍

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Control Lock doesn't impact water temp. Control Lock is used to lock the panel and prevents young children from accidentally pressing random buttons. The temperature of the water used in the wash segment is selected using the TEMP button. All rinses are cold water with this model.

    How to do a SOAK feature plleae?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  10 วันที่ผ่านมา
