The straight six version started at like 75k back in the day and if you went for the v8 version it went over 100k! The Asian version came with satelite navigation and tv.
Are you really comparing a luxury car vs a base moxel non turbo Supra? Lmao people love throwing the supra name around like they are all equal. Its NOT better than a turbo version, objectively regardless of feelings. You know whats better than a Camry, the lexus Lc500.
I remember when I got my SC300. I had no idea what it was I just wanted a luxury car and then one day my dad told me that it was related to the supra and I felt really stupid for not knowing what I had under the hood 💀
Ditto. Only street racers/car people knew what the supra was/was capable of back around 98-00. Heck, people even hated it because almost everyone hated imports back then.
You have one thing incorrect my friend they are not even close when comparison to the GE and the GTE and is simple something call Gtrag. Gtrag tunnels we're sort custom made.
I mean basically the engine is a 2jz but it's not the gte version. But I've got good news. The engine itself can handle the same amount of horsepower a 2jz gte does. All you need to do is swap out the pistons rods for gte ones and you'll be good to go
My dad gave me his Lexus SC400 with the 1UZ V8. Only had 86k miles when i got it. Not even 2 years later and it has 116k. The best car i've owned so far.
You'll definitely not gonna find a 5 speed 1998-2000 SC300 because they only came with a 4-speed automatic, while the SC400 was only 4-speed auto (92-97) and 5-speed auto (98-00). 1992 to 1997 are available with the 5-speed
This car was in Forza Horizon 3. It was the 1997 model which was the last year of the manual and the 1st year to sport the VVT-i 2JZ (One thing to look out for on the VVT 2JZ's are that they use timing belts instead of timing chains and the VVT models are interference as opposed to non-interference. Info taken from a Lexus forum) making it a unicorn. The manuals are a pain to find as most people bought them with the 4-speed auto. As of now there is only one of these for sale according to CarGurus. $6k, about 230k miles and in GA.
I almost bought that first sc300 you showed. Driver Motorsports is 10 minutes from me right outside Lynchburg VA. That car was mint and had a great build done.
The internals of this engine are very weak. The one that can handle all the power is the gte I believe. You are right though I think it's the better car.
I love my 1999 sc300; but goddamn is it hard to find parts since everyone with a Supra has picked the motors and subframes to oblivion. I have to go 240 miles out to find subframe components :/
Good on ya man. I got my 95 manual for $1,000. 200,000 miles, came with the timing kit, has good compression, interior is immaculate (sans the seats, one will get replaced ;)). Just need to lose some weight then start putting some work in, but its a dream to drive even stock. No turbo but im in mountain roads so I dont have room to really stretch. Handling is nice thought, you have good stability with only a bit of roll to manage. The rear end can get happy but it's easily manageable.
@@grahamnostalgia1 It can take over 700hp stock as well. 6 bolt main bearing caps, its a stout piece. When it was new,few engines this side of a race track were built like it. The first ZR1 motor comes to mind.
Yes and no, the UZ is a hell of a lot of work and fab to bolt on turbos to it COMPARED to the 2jz which you can get millions of intercooler and turbo kits ready to slap on.
I've own stillnown a sc300 for 17yrs. Sc300 came with a manual* Best used sports car I've ever driven. Mine has 190k miles all things working perfect . Just do your homework. Alot of younger folks are jumping on them due to some "youtubers," and beating these beast up. Market is definitely going up for them but finding one in good shape will be a mild mission.
Bro I don't know where you got your information, no one in the car community sells a standard SC for around 5k. I'm in Canada and people want 7-10k. Mostly guys who know what it is and what it can become.
Pod • qworthy01 I've seen them "locally" (my town doesn't really offer much but muh trucks, mustangs or SUVs but if I take a 2 hour trip to a northern city, I'll find much more) for around 2k-4K in perfect condition with some minor things like newer Lexus wheels or improved headlights.
So I’ve had an sc300 and now currently own a Supra. To be honest the motor sits in the same spot. The suspension is all the same (from what I remember about my sc). But for some reason the Supra is more comfortable for tall people like my self. The only “superior” part of an sc300 in my mind is the price. The over all size and driving feel is identical. I will day for the time they were both fantastic and still are today.
When I was younger, I wanted BOTH the LS400 and the Supra. After 6 years of owning an SC400, I understand that it's a way to have both cars in one. lol
Not even joking too around the corner of my house, is a sc400 or 300 I haven’t been able to check since it’s weird to go to their driveway and check the car lol I’m def gonna ask if they’re selling it cuz it’s just sitting there with webs and a flat tire
ive owned 4, currently have one. It dont matter to kids and casuals if it ain't the car from F&F its a "poor man's supra" which is such a stupid thing to say imo
The Lexus: Nicer interior, more comfortable, cheaper, looks better, won't get stolen as easily $4-7K The Supra: Paul Walker Drove it in a ricer film $60-110K smh lol
Its handling makes up for the automatic drivetrain.. seriously its a grand tourer, and every gt/ luxury car was in auto during the 90s. You'll be lucky to find a manual version. I'm happy with an automatic in los angeles though serously.
I was driving in my 89 Supra this morning and passed a SC300, it's a nice car and from listening to it (I had my windows down) it sounded like a 2JZTE turbo.
Having daily driven a JZZ30 soarer for 7 years (1JZ-GTE) and now a JZA80 supra for 8 (2JZ-GTE), I can assure you that the only thing that is really a plus on your list is the value for money. Yes, the SC300 is an undervalued car but it is not a better car than a supra for a few reasons that jump to mind. Firstly, the supra has a shorter wheelbase and a lower center of gravity, so it handles better than it's longer, heavier, older sister the SC. The supra steering rack also feels considerably more sporty and definitely helps the car feel more agile in the corners. The supra is still a boat compared to many 'sports' cars but not compared to the SC. Secondly, the SC was never offered with the getrag six speed gearbox, which makes the r154 five speed feel like shifting a tuck in comparison, not to mention missing a gear and the change of ratios. Thirdly, there is the look. Now I don't mind the look of the SC, but apart from possibly the headlights, the supra looks better from every angle. There is no way anyone can convince me the back of the SC is anywhere near as sexy as the back of the supra, so don't even bother. Supras can fit much bigger tyres under stock guards, which brings me to my next reason. Forth, and the biggest reason SCs are not valued like supras, is the platform for modification. The supra has been a favorite among tuning companies for many years so there is infinitely more aftermarket support available. If you are serious about racing, supra is the only way to go.
Youre forgetting the fact that the suspension is exactly the same, the gas tank is in the most optimal position right in the center of the rear wheel base, and how fucking easy it is to replace head/tail lights
I literally found a great buy! 1998 SC300 2JZ (GE) 153k miles for $2500 aftermarket blacked rims stock body different colored front bumper has a system with sub. But it is an automatic did I screw up?
Ummm no it’s definitely not a front mid engine, I’ve had 3 SCs... the entire engine assembly would need to be positioned behind the steering rack which the 2JZ definitely is not, the engine is positioned dead center ON TOP of the steering rack. It’s not even close to a mid position. The 400 is a bit different because the 1UZ is not as long and only overhangs the rack by about 1/4-1/3. I know I’ve owned 2 SC400s and 1 SC300. Really should check out some engine bay photos on google 😂
I feel like you are juggling some stats around. It is very rare to find a non turbo engine from this era that makes more than 100nm per litre, let alone 100ft/lbs(130nm) per litre. 2jz-ge making almost 300ft/lbs? You must be talking forced induction somewhere. You are probably talking about the 1jz-gte toyota soarer which was indeed faster than the v8, almost as fast as the supra. The 2jz-ge(not GTE) was a pretty tame engine. That in no way detracts from the cars eligibility as a supra alternative. I had a friend who owned one of these(soarer rather than sc300) and aside from loving the 1jz-gte he was pretty crazy about the auto transmission they came as well, being the best he has ever used. Supposedly they were individually hand tuned to the engine they were mated with.
Are we all just pretending that an sc is really better than a supra? Are we all just ignoring how wrong he is about the 2jz? Buying an sc and a real 2jz-gte would end up costing you more than a sc.
I mean I love the SC300 but when comparing the 2jz-gte to the 2jz-ge, the ge has its draw backs. Stock for stock, I think the SC is a bit better in my opinion but when it comes to modability, the ge falls short a bit. You'd probably have to machine the block (among other things) to convert to a gte to be able to handle more than 400-475hp. Not to mention that the sc is way heavier stock. But with all things considered, it's still a great car
Big Lexus fan lately.I just got myself a 4.0 2000 LS400 with just under 300 horsepower.. and I love it so much that I just bought an old ES300... I want this car also. I'll have to look for it in my area

This has been #3 on my list of cars I want to own since 2012. I was 14. I’m now 21 and it’s likely to be my first car.
Bought mine when i was 20. You will love it if you buy one. I found an sc400. Neat thing about lexus is they have a vin number lookup on their website and all maintenance that was done at the dealer will be on there, even before the website existed. They're totally bulletproof but they are old cars so you have to keep a close eye and be ready for maintenance.
@@shawnsantos what’s the website?
@@wer4599it's the lexus website. You have to make an account and register your vin
The straight six version started at like 75k back in the day and if you went for the v8 version it went over 100k! The Asian version came with satelite navigation and tv.
I’ve owned 6 sc300/sc400
Will own more in best future
1jzgte
Tuxedo supra
Roger York I have a 96 SC300...why have you owned 6 of them. Did you have reliability issues?
Never heard dope rappers from the early 90s flex on a Supra. But they did on the Lexus SC.
B legit said, sitting in my sc 4 double o !👍
And what's even better than a Supra and SC300 is an IS300
Yes much better i own one myself
Unicorn to find a stick shift here in NY
Much uglier than SC 400 or 300
Nah fuck a is
Are you really comparing a luxury car vs a base moxel non turbo Supra? Lmao people love throwing the supra name around like they are all equal. Its NOT better than a turbo version, objectively regardless of feelings.
You know whats better than a Camry, the lexus Lc500.
I remember when I got my SC300. I had no idea what it was I just wanted a luxury car and then one day my dad told me that it was related to the supra and I felt really stupid for not knowing what I had under the hood 💀
The Toyota Supra is only popular because of F&F and Paul Walker. Change my Mind.
1 gran turismo 2: Castro Supra, denso supra, cerumo one. Midnight Wangan.
gran turismo did it first
Ditto. Only street racers/car people knew what the supra was/was capable of back around 98-00. Heck, people even hated it because almost everyone hated imports back then.
You're not wrong.
For people in Australia I suppose it was Smokey Nagata and the top secret supras?
Plus we used to watch them in touring cars.
You have one thing incorrect my friend they are not even close when comparison to the GE and the GTE and is simple something call Gtrag.
Gtrag tunnels we're sort custom made.
I always loved this car since I was like 14, such an under rated classic Jdm
Non VVTi 2Js also run a belt but VVTis are interference because of the variable valve timing.
Vvti started in 1998
I almost bought that first sc300 you showed. Driver Motorsports is 10 minutes from me right outside Lynchburg VA. That car was mint and had a great build done.
Ha! I once lived in Lynchburg Va. Met my x at Bulls steak house.
The internals of this engine are very weak. The one that can handle all the power is the gte I believe. You are right though I think it's the better car.
Fred Huff this is the real answer...... I’ve researched and 2JZ GE has different pistons crank than Supra 2JZGTE
292OHV Chevrolet yea I know bro also the gte is vvti
@@fredhuff6215 Both GTE and GE has VVTI.
Can't you rebuild the ge to a gte?(I know its stupid question but I'm just curious)
Carboy Dorifuto party yea you can rebuild but many rather just swap cuz you’ll end up putting the same amount of cash into it
I love my 1999 sc300; but goddamn is it hard to find parts since everyone with a Supra has picked the motors and subframes to oblivion. I have to go 240 miles out to find subframe components :/
How is it supposed to be on a platform from the supra, when the SC and Soarer came first. Other than that, decent video. I love my 5-speed
I had a SC 400 or Soarer (in Japan) when I was in Station in Japan back in the early 2000's and Loved It! It even had the screen in the center consul
You actually want the 400. That 1UZ can take everything the 2JZ can,and then some.
Lee Powers care to share the info?
@@grahamnostalgia1 It can take over 700hp stock as well. 6 bolt main bearing caps, its a stout piece. When it was new,few engines this side of a race track were built like it. The first ZR1 motor comes to mind.
Only on pre 94 1uzfe models, they got the thiccc rodes
Yes and no, the UZ is a hell of a lot of work and fab to bolt on turbos to it COMPARED to the 2jz which you can get millions of intercooler and turbo kits ready to slap on.
I've own stillnown a sc300 for 17yrs.
Sc300 came with a manual*
Best used sports car I've ever driven.
Mine has 190k miles all things working perfect .
Just do your homework. Alot of younger folks are jumping on them due to some "youtubers," and beating these beast up. Market is definitely going up for them but finding one in good shape will be a mild mission.
Finding parts for these is insane
Bro I don't know where you got your information, no one in the car community sells a standard SC for around 5k. I'm in Canada and people want 7-10k. Mostly guys who know what it is and what it can become.
They DO sell for about 5k here in Aussie, even good ones, however yes most people want more!
My dad owns one
There’s one one eBay for 5000$ that’s in mint condition
Pod • qworthy01 I've seen them "locally" (my town doesn't really offer much but muh trucks, mustangs or SUVs but if I take a 2 hour trip to a northern city, I'll find much more) for around 2k-4K in perfect condition with some minor things like newer Lexus wheels or improved headlights.

If the Lexus sc300 was revealed 2 years before the Supra, how is the Lexus on a Supra chassis. The Supra is actually on a sc300 chassis.
I wish they had thrown in all of the engines they had it JDM, they had a 1JZGTE manual edition in Japan.
Henry Kenick since it’s so similar all people can do is buy the sc300 and swap it for the Supra engine
" The over all size and driving feel is identical." This right here, folks!
nathan Taylor no need. The 2jzge is just as strong
You ca find these in a hood near you.
When I was younger, I wanted BOTH the LS400 and the Supra. After 6 years of owning an SC400, I understand that it's a way to have both cars in one. lol
Don't forget about the Toyota Soarer Z30!Without it the Lexus SC300 wouldn't have existed
I bought my 95 with 171,000 mi for under $3000 with black interior which is so rare now and days with the specific chassis
There's a red sc300 (manual) around the corner from my house for sale that I'm trying to get my hands on! 😈
Did you get it?
@@KrispyKidTay1 no... hehehe I got it
Not even joking too around the corner of my house, is a sc400 or 300 I haven’t been able to check since it’s weird to go to their driveway and check the car lol I’m def gonna ask if they’re selling it cuz it’s just sitting there with webs and a flat tire
Buddy of mine has a forest green SC300. Built engine, turbo (don't know what kind) and the thing is putting down 780hp to the wheels. Very nice car.
ive owned 4, currently have one. It dont matter to kids and casuals if it ain't the car from F&F its a "poor man's supra" which is such a stupid thing to say imo
I want an SC400 SOOOO bad free seeing you can boost the 1uz on stock internals and it holds up just fine.
The Lexus: Nicer interior, more comfortable, cheaper, looks better, won't get stolen as easily $4-7K
The Supra: Paul Walker Drove it in a ricer film $60-110K smh lol
The doors are unique because the way it opens differently like without hinges or something.
Tbh your not wrong it’s the Supra before the Supra if anything it give most of its parts to the Supra.
Its handling makes up for the automatic drivetrain.. seriously its a grand tourer, and every gt/ luxury car was in auto during the 90s.
You'll be lucky to find a manual version. I'm happy with an automatic in los angeles though serously.
There was only 100 sc400’s make manual. Found one a while back in Washington for 20k was the 7th ever made.
Got my Lexus sc300 in pretty good condition for 900$ 😭 gotta steall ‼️
Please don't make the price of these go up! 😂
Thank you. Just my piggyback ECU and saving saving up for a turbo kit. I was excited before, then this has gassed me up even more.
The 2000 Lexus gs300 came with the same engine as the sc300 in sedan form. my dad has one and it is one of the best luxury cars I have ever been in.
Just picked a super clean one last week, factory manual, fully rebuilt motor with all oem parts, all stock, for now…
I was driving in my 89 Supra this morning and passed a SC300, it's a nice car and from listening to it (I had my windows down) it sounded like a 2JZTE turbo.
Youre forgetting the fact that the suspension is exactly the same, the gas tank is in the most optimal position right in the center of the rear wheel base, and how fucking easy it is to replace head/tail lights
kids who think a mkiv supra comes with 800 hp stock aren’t going to like this one
There goes the neighborhood and by neighborhood I mean price
I literally found a great buy! 1998 SC300 2JZ (GE) 153k miles for $2500 aftermarket blacked rims stock body different colored front bumper has a system with sub. But it is an automatic did I screw up?
The details you included were phenomenal, one thing I didn't know "front mid engine"
I love my 1995 Lexus SC400. It looks absolutely gorgeous in red.
Well now the prices are 5k-10k. Thanks everyone for your raising your prices. Real nice and conveinent for me.
The manuals are quite rare around where I live if you do manage to find one its gonna be a pretty penny compared to the autos
We didn't forget it, just can't find a good one with stick TT
Im a Lexus sc400 owner and its the most unique v8 ever built. I will be looking for a sc300 also.
Are we all just pretending that an sc is really better than a supra? Are we all just ignoring how wrong he is about the 2jz? Buying an sc and a real 2jz-gte would end up costing you more than a sc.
Prices stay down because parts are discontinued not a huge aftermarket for it
I’m still trying to figure out what is happening in the thumbnail.
Supra (hatchback) is based on SC (coupe). SC was designed in US and came out in '92 while Supra was modified by Toyota Japan and came out in '93.5.
Just bought 1995 Japanese import Toyota soarer, has the ihz engine, and a couple of features that are illegal in Australia, paid $5000 aud
Wrong about the torque. It was 285Nm (210lb ft), or 304Nm (224lb ft) on the 1997> VVTi models
I've owned a Soarer and now own a Supra. Never looked back.
