    Squid and calamari sashimi is absolutely delicious my #1 tip is to clean them in the salt water (head,wings and membrane off head and wings best Jew bait but back to the sashimi slice the calamari or squid into strip's length ways about 1/2 cm thick in 2 bowls have soy sauce in 1 and lime juice in the other place then in the lime juice for 30-60seconds then take out and dip in to the soy sauce and that's all you need to do

      If you want to flavour it abit add some crushed garlic or finely sliced chilli to the soy sauce give it 10mins before dipping the squid/calamari into the soy sauce

      @@NevsFishing There has been a huge surge of AI bots on YT recently so if u see usernames with 4 numbers at the end of their username or symbols and like 2 numbers. They are actually fake/bot accounts. I personally live in South aus and have tried squid sashimi and it taste like nothing. Literally like 1% taste. Whenever u clean a squid next and are up to cutting the hood up slice a little off and either wash it or man up and eat it if it isnt 2 dirty. But yeah it's a shame but aus squid are shite for sashimi

    Gday Nev love your Squid fishing videos. My mouth honestly is watering all the way thru! I know you probably would never say it but I find it a bit over the top for fellow fishermen to ask for your fishing spots. That’s my opinion as a former passionate fisherman. 👍🏻

  • @moonwalkingbeluga6459
    @moonwalkingbeluga6459 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I almost only use small/micro jigs because the huge advantages are that you catch any size squids, even the most reluctants when the tide or moon phase is not good, or the ones that have already been hooked and you almost never lose a squid as they engulf fully the jig. That's a candy for any squid for sure.

    Nice work Nev, keep it going. I wish we in NZ had such bountiful and regularly large squid. I was taught squid fishing by a very experienced Japanese man. Sashimi was his favourite way of eating Broad squid (not my thing to be honest). BTW, he dissected a large Broad once and explained every internal part of the animal, what each part played and what was edible and what was not. It was very interesting.

    Nice video. FYI, squids, cuttlefish, octopods, etc. do not store ink, they make it as they use it. A special pigment gland produces it and then it is mixed with water and squirted out.

    I've only just reintroduced myself to squidding, and I have proven twice now that small jigs catch more than big ones. My biggest problem is trying to find jigs that are small and heavy enough for the current where I fish

    • @tristanhodgson9002
      @tristanhodgson9002 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not look into some Egi weights? They're small, snap on sinkers. Usually in a nice glow-UV paint green, and would let you use a small jig with a greater weight! BCF, Anaconda and other sporting retailers here in Aus have em :)

    I've been eating raw calamari since I was 3 yrs old (55 yrs ago).
    Best way is fresh caught in the boat. The small one you caught is perfect. If you bring em home to eat raw bring some sea water home in a bottle and wash it with that rather than fresh water which makes the squid tough. It tastes sweet and salty, I pit a bit of lemon and down the hatch, enjoy!
