      have a Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 with the projector and that thing is beaten up - slammed several times over the course of every gamescom since 2015, thousand times falling off my bed, falling from my kitchen etc. The screen is cracked, an displayedge is completely broken off, the corner with the powerbutton is severly damaged, the hull can be taken off as some clips broke from falling apparently and it still works.
      Sure i have a fee cracks in the glass but theyre not really noticeable and they didnt interfere with the Yoga Tab 3 special AnyPen Tech that lets u use anything as a pen, even chopsticks, a fork, pencils or a dildo. If u want something to survive, get Lenovo - Even a fancypants glass Tablet with inbuilt projector survives more punishment than 100 Ipads could take

      A tablet with a serial port, and you can game on it? Why?

    • @NoobixCube
      @NoobixCube 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Super common in industrial and scientific application. Panasonic toughbooks all have serial ports, and I think they do a rugged tablet (or at least a convertible) in that range, too. It's common to see brand new CNC lathes and similar roll off the production line with RS-232 communication, because machinery like that has been made to be a drop-in replacement, generation on generation, for older tech. Conventions established thirty years ago are still needed now, because a change even in something as simple as communication protocol might have a knock-on effect requiring a whole workshop be upgraded.

    • @tams805
      @tams805 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@NoobixCube That and RS-232 is the only still widely supported connector that has the option for secure attachment with the thumbscrews. A bit overkill for an office projector, but you really don't want your lathe/CO2 monitor/whatever becoming disconnected.

    • @happygimp0
      @happygimp0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NoobixCube We didn't expect this because most don't have them. There is no question about the usefulness of a serial port.

      @happygimp0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bosstowndynamics5488 There are simple connectors with built in USB to RS232 or UART adapter. They have the same footprint and geometry as a DSUB-9 and the same pinning to the PCB as a RS232 but have a micro-USB-Port on the outside.
      However, a other problem can be the reaction time, USB adapters are slower than native UART and some software can't handle that.

    I bought one of these used for $400 thinking it would be great for my job mixing concerts, usually outdoors. I'm the only person I know who has tried all the software out there and much prefers using Windows. While it works wonderfully, it's so fricken heavy I can't carry it around for an hour and a half mixing on it. Now it gathers dust in a drawer.

    I have a Dell 7202 that I've just send back again for more times that I care to remember for a bad Win 10 recovery image; once all Win 10 updates are installed, all pointing devices fail to work. Dell makes garbage products. I've had nothing but problems with it since Dell exchanged it for my XT3 because they stopped making parts for it.

    Oh, man, I've worked on a couple of these (I work in IT)! Rugged is right: one worker wanted to attach his to something, but the grip stand he had didn't work in that situation for whatever reason, so he just WELDED A FUCKING GRIP STAND TO IT. I have absolutely no idea how it survived, but it did, and almost perfectly at that.

    Hi LTT Team,
    PLEASE CAN YOU REVIEW THIS SERIOUSLY.
    Our field techs use these out on a daily basis and the overall feedback is ALWAYS the same. the 4g/WIFI is CRAP, despite been in areas where they get 3 bars or more on cellphones they struggle to upload to our systems. They have to tether to their cellphones often, and the WIFI is constantly dropping. again despite the wifi from the cellphones been excellent to other devices... these tablets all suffer the same issue. "tough and strong, robust" etc means poor quality antenna for wifi/4g. Please can you test them in real life scenarios?
    Things they require:
    Photos of holes in the ground, damaged pipes/ aerial cables etc. needs to be decent quality, and good compression to send over 4g data.
    Battery life that lasts 8 hours or more from daily use. Capable of been charged well enough from a car cigarette lighter charge cable etc.
    Durable to survive our techs hoofing them into the van without care,
    and while i know this is a software thing, a MASSIVE button keyboard to use when wearing work mitts, gloves and such. but the ease of changing to normal for a customer to type their details in should it be required.
    Thank you, really appreciate this, we would likely buy about 30 of these a year or more at our current rate and we're upgrading constantly to get ones that just fit the workload properly. most of them are crap wifi or batteries etc..

    Actually, there is a potential market beyond manly construction workers who need to wear gloves while using the device; EMS, Fire and police spring to mind. Woth that in mind, I was a bit disappointed that this review was more comedy than evaluation... but, ok, it was amusing. By the way, that temp range is NOT ridiculous, I've had medical devices like cardiac monitors fail in sub-zero environments (Siberian winter where high-quality body bags shatter like glass) AND in toasty warm places like the Desert of Kuwait...

  • @radicalxedward8047
    @radicalxedward8047 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rugged tablets are a HORRIBLE idea. No construction worker is gonna wanna use this. THEYRE TOO HEAVY!
    I do time studies in warehouses to help track employee performance and the biggest headache with tablets is the weight once you start adding chunky cases or use rugged versions of tablets. They suck. Just get an iPad and put a decent case on it.

  • @madnesssoft2012
    @madnesssoft2012 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not just construction, delivery, or vendors use tablets now, I'm using a 'Vanquisher SV-86' for my job, little $500 tablet, it's a decent little tablet for rugged, and believe me, I've dropped it many times, also, it doesn't cost a literal arm and a leg, and still runs windows. We used to use a surface pro, but they weren't rugged enough and broke on drops too easily. The biggest thing is Bluetooth connectivity, because you have to print invoices, so a shitty Bluetooth is a terrible day, and slows down your job to get it back working.

  • @bartjones3338
    @bartjones3338 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Handled plenty of these... Complete crap wireless cards/design. They literally don't work. Dell rep blamed it on several things on our end then decided to blame it on the "ruggedized nature" of the tablet. We were using them mostly with havis cradles along with the external antennas. Needless to say they were abandoned and replaced with something that actually works (funny enough we swapped a few with another brand and went from 10-20 wireless disconnects per hour to none, and that's in the same environment after we doubled the APs in the facility trying to make the Dell machines work in and out of the havis cradles). Do not buy this garbage if you plan to use the wireless (wifi, can't speak to the LTE abilities but I wouldn't hold my breath).

    Do companies send you these for reviews or you buy them? I doubt a construction worker, a military specialist etc. is watching LTT and is like: "hey, Ive always wanted this!" at the same time its a pretty cool product for the LMG viewers. Was wondering the same for the rugged laptop that Alex reviewed in the woods.

    I work in a Dell repair Depot and I will say, definitely do NOT BUY ONE if you're into doing your own repairs on things (unless you hate yourself). They do get preferential treatment with specialized technicians and one day service though and I doubt anyone buying one of these actually does want to do their own repairs so....buy one I guess?
