Same, I would probably design this except I would probably make bezel slimmer for a bigger screen Without it being heavier and the laptop itself being bigger
*Gets hit with an explosive Atmosphere*. Hey, I mean you lose a couple of limbs in the process, but at least look on the bright side! Your tablet is undamaged!
No it means it cannot IGNITE a dangerous atmosphere such as an explosive atmosphere, because it does not produce sparks or high enough voltages or even if it does they're "insulated" from the atmosphere
Its a standard requirement in the Oil Industry. It probably means that the device is intrinsically safe, i.e., it is safe to use in an environment that contains flammable vapors. A lot of devices like cellphones, cameras, flashlights, walkie talkies etc have to be certified before they can be used on oil Riggs and ships that carry oil for this very reason.
Now, this is good! A piece of equipment that actually makes sense. These types of vids and quickie reviews are a big part of what you do best Linus. Good job and keep doing what ya do. W.P.
This reminds me of the old Inspiron laptop I had. That thing was as rugged as a brick and the ability to have a CD drive or two batteries was fantastic and something more devices need to do. If only this wasn't so expensive..
+XtremeGamez try downloading the newest drivers and if that doesn't work try downloading msi afterburner or equivalent overclocking tool and resetting it to default, but im pretty sure you jsut need to update its drivers
For linus: An explosive atmosphere could be working inside a grain silo collecting data for some reason or other as the dust from the grain can become explosive due to its nature and the amount inside it. dont think you have a grain silo attached to the new building unless you are really into granola.
Explosive Atmosphere is generally an atmosphere with highly flammable environment where the air can literally explode upon a spark. Generally you aren't allowed to carry certain equipment within such zones like electronics since the heat the equipment can sometimes generate enough to lit the gases up causing a chain reaction. So I assume it is has been crafted for such atmospheres as well, for example using it within nuclear facilities as a way of noting different numbers/dates and compile information without having to write it all down/try remember it.
I think this is the perfect Tablet for anyone working on a constant time schedule in the field, very nicely accompanied by the feature list (GPS, Serialport ...).
I love the concept of the "ToughBook" class of laptops, so at least someone is finally doing a good "ToughTablet". Definitely something a lot of people could make use of.
XtremeConditions A tablet version is special, I think. But it's more similar to a Laptop i still Use my fathers old Windows 2000 IBM Machine. Water spilled on it so often that it's uncountable, people trowing lightened up cigarettes on it, my sister accidentally ripping the Disc Driver Thingie out. It's not fast and not special in other way but being tough. It's from the time where you thought you're father was good at technology. And now you're fixing his, because "This Website said, I have a Virus" :D But Moms can destroy Tough Books. Every mom can do that.
+Jacque Minogue the metir system isn't cool we have fahrenheit and our tools use standard 1/4 inch 1/2 inch 5/16 ect. everyone else needs to use them too
+Jacque Minogue still guessing game to get the right socket the first time but fahrenhiet is more acurate and easier to understand because 0 c is 32 f the freezing point that is all i know in metric temps and by the way iny channel from North or South America is technacly an American channel lol
I can see this selling extremely well in many industries that have harsh working conditions such a good idea. I think dell hit a home run with this device
+Maximus Tregatoria He won't. But here, let me show something you couldn't think of: lmgtfy.com/?q=will+the+hand+rest+of+the+7G+also+fit+for+the+6Gv2+Red+Switch%3F
I think the explosive atmosphere thing means it doesn’t create sparks kinda requirement needed for mines or maybe storage tanks and such type places where fumes might explode
Where I work explosive atmosphere is a serious issue due to working with natural gas on a daily basis. Things have to be intrinsically safe (typically referred to as class 1 div 2) in order to be used on the job site.
An explosive atmosphere rating means it can safely be used in volatile environments like gas production (propane, natural gas etc) plants and it won't cause an explosion....a lot of flashlights have similar ratings.
Explosive atmosphere, probably referring to ATEX, means that if you use this laptop in an area with gas fumes, it won't create any sparks that could blow you up. Very useful if you work in the oil/gas industry.
Yosyp Didn't the Macbook 2015 score lower than the iPhone 6S because of the that CPU?Linus even ghetto-ly watercooled it and it didn't thermal throttled
I can vouch for the use of the serial port. I used to laugh at motherboards that still come with old ports like that, but I've been taking college-level programming courses and we're learning why they are still useful. We do a lot of stuff with microcontrollers and very low-level code (meaning it's closer to the raw binary with less UI flourish) and on that level USB is a real pain to work with. It's much easier to code with serial ports because it's more... straightforward.
I have to guess explosive atmosphere means that it is capable of handling high pressure sound waves, like from an explosion, or skydiving and moving it from being in your slipstream, to being in the uncut air
My guess for the explosive atmosphere rating is that if there are any highly explosive substances in the air that would detonate because of the smallest spark then this device is tested not to create any. If the usage scenario for this would be like in a first response situation in a chemical plant.
Fyi, "explosive atmosphere" is where the air around you is volatile enough that any spark could cause an ignition and therefore an explosion. For example, near a gas pump, at a rocket fuel refinery, methane plant, coal mine etc.
explosive atmosphere simply means if there is a room where there's a danger of explosions, and a spark could cause an explosion. The tablet won't in any way cause a spark that could ignite potentially dangerous gasses. (you can use it in explosive atmospheres.)
+RuskyHusky invalid comparison, since the galaxy doesn't support windows. and you might be able to replace the tablet, but maybe the data on there was more valuable than the device.
I think the explosive atmosphere has something to do being safe under operation when there may be dangerous concentrations of flammable gases in the atmosphere. I really dig the dual hot-swappable batteries though. The last time I saw something like that was on an old Macintosh PowerBook G3 my family had while I was growing up in the late 90s. The explosive atmosphere qualification means the device is intrinsically safe, ie it won't be an ignition source if there are flammable vapors in the air. (think oil refining)

Hi
Same, I would probably design this except I would probably make bezel slimmer for a bigger screen Without it being heavier and the laptop itself being bigger
I WOULD ALSO DO THR SAME i would make it waterproof , scratch proof, drop proof and make it light and have very thin bezels

Hello, LinusTech.

I think the explosive atmosphere thing means it doesn’t create sparks kinda requirement needed for mines or maybe storage tanks and such type places where fumes might explode

We'd need to test that out ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Where I work explosive atmosphere is a serious issue due to working with natural gas on a daily basis. Things have to be intrinsically safe (typically referred to as class 1 div 2) in order to be used on the job site.
So, they finally made the tablet from Stargate:Atlantis... about bloody time ;)
xTheBongSquadx Weren't those HP tablets?

I actually use these every day and have for the last year. They're pretty sweet for work.
I mean this is more like scientific equipment ... you can't compare it to an ipad or a surface... it also costs like 5000$...
+George Lujan Yes that's what I was thinking - since when do they review toughbooks?
I feel bad for the wood chair they used during the dirt/water testing...
*pulls out shotgun*
BUT NOT XAVIER PROOF!
I have to guess explosive atmosphere means that it is capable of handling high pressure sound waves, like from an explosion, or skydiving and moving it from being in your slipstream, to being in the uncut air
I feel creepy for knowing those were Brandon's hands.
My guess for the explosive atmosphere rating is that if there are any highly explosive substances in the air that would detonate because of the smallest spark then this device is tested not to create any. If the usage scenario for this would be like in a first response situation in a chemical plant.
6:32 - wtf who pisses on tablet
Fyi, "explosive atmosphere" is where the air around you is volatile enough that any spark could cause an ignition and therefore an explosion. For example, near a gas pump, at a rocket fuel refinery, methane plant, coal mine etc.

When Linus has nothing to do 🌚
The explosive atmosphere test basically means the laptop won't trigger an explosion if you have a high concentration of ignitable vapor in the area

Liviu a lot of them
Been waiting for this for a while

I think the explosive atmosphere has something to do being safe under operation when there may be dangerous concentrations of flammable gases in the atmosphere.
I really dig the dual hot-swappable batteries though. The last time I saw something like that was on an old Macintosh PowerBook G3 my family had while I was growing up in the late 90s. Especially when lately it seems like everyone has been jumping on the long-life built-in/non-user-serviceable battery pack boat.

The 'advert' at the start reminded me of the 1 year benchmark that luke 'is' doing then i thought of the power outage LMG had 🤔
The explosive atmosphere qualification means the device is intrinsically safe, ie it won't be an ignition source if there are flammable vapors in the air. (think oil refining)
5:41 from a technical perspective, the term you should use is "verify" not "validate".
I laughed so hard when the jet of water opened the start menu at about 6:30
That bug on the tablet at 2:14 lol
I'm thinking other companies should take note on the camera cover and implement it on laptops and such. It's a really good idea.
8:30 for linus and luke crossing streams
i'd actually like having that just for the fact that it has so moany accesories in it like smartcard reader
You mentioned the front camera twice.
I like how when he moved the tablet in the beginning the screen shrunk like it's going "oh shit"
Hi Linus! Cool vid!!
