The only thing i dislike about popular shounen that are longer, are the expectations people set for characters and arcs. Just go to it with an open mind, I'm sure you'll enjoy the entirety of the show and have your own favourite moments without people telling you which ones they should be.

Every arc in this show is fun, this one in particular is kind of put as one of the less interesting but it's still great and really important and you'll probably have a different opinion on which arc you prefer, we all do.
Greed Island is just such pure joy and entertainment, and it's so essential to the narrative in many ways. Without it the following arcs would fall apart.

Forget about Chimera for now, and focus on how the author builds up the personality of both kids, and please consider that Gon and Killua are just kids and they are growing up together, so it's a process of developing the personality and characteristics

It depends on who you ask, imo Hunter Exam arc was better in terms of how much fun the experience is. Greed Island has some boring moments but also very high peaks
Overall, yes, but the Hunter exam builds and builds until a remarkable climax, while this arc is generally better, but the climax is actually before the final fight. I think most would agree that the dodgeball was the highlight of the arc, and the whole Genthru fight wasn't nearly as good (still ok, just not a spectacle at all)

I guess the best way I could compare Greed island to the other arcs is Yorknew is a 11/10 Chimera is a 12/10 and Greed island is a 10/10 😂😂idk how else to put it all the arcs are amazing
I didn't really like Greed Island that much, I would put Heaven's Arena above it. The villain Genthru is really one dimensional and not much interesting, but it's still 8/10 I would say.

A Chimera is a creature from Greek mythology. It's described as having a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail. It has gone on to describe other things that are mixtures of multiple things and not simply that mythological creature alone. Your example in FMA works because every time we saw a chimera it was either multiple animals spliced together or a human spliced with an animal

This was actually the first episode I saw of this anime. I watched the 90's anime along with the Phantom Troup OVA's and then I switched to the 2011 anime. So, the ending song of this arc is actually the most nostalgic of this anime to me. You gotta love it. While I don't think this a really good arc, overall is a fun watch and has some interesting things goin' on. Can't wait for the chimera ant arc!

Unpopular opinion here. 🙋♂ The Greed Island arc is my favorite arc in all Hunter X Hunter. Yes, above the arc of Yorknew city and above the arc of the Chimera Ants. And the ending -Reason- is my favorite ending of this anime. It seems very nostalgic to me. I love it. And I know that this arc may seem boring to many people, but what can I tell you, I love Slice of Life and this arc is the closest thing to that. I think you girls will enjoy it. I hope you have fun and enjoy this arc a lot, cheers up. 😊
well for me the reason why it's kinda boring is the villain genthru and although it's fun2 and informative but their training with nen specifically the naming of the terms it's just kinda dragging but it's fine2 since i really love the power system very detailed and fair

I just hope the Hunter X Hunter fandom don't lower the enjoyment of the Chimera Ant Arc for them like they did for me. Because of the massive hype people give this arc, I went in with my guard up to avoid being disappointed with unreasonable expectations. And that causes me to get into the arc with a guarded and more negative mindset, telling myself "it won't be as good as people make it out to be" in order to lower my expectations, which causes me to have said negative mindset. My experience with Chimera Ant Arc so far has been "My mind has not been blown yet, when is that going to happen?", granted I'm about halfway through it and I hear the second half is where things really kick off, but I'm sure the overhype really screwed my enjoyment of this beloved arc. Hunter X Hunter fans reading this, please just shut up about the Chimera Ant Arc. I've seen a couple different reaction channels react to this show and literally every episode before this arc is littered with people hyping it. In my opinion you guys are really doing a disservice to this show behaving like this.

I completely agree that it’s for the best that Kurapika steps back for a bit (a while). Kurapika is my favorite and he absolutely owns any scene he’s in (manga reader here he’s currently to kil rocking my world) but it’s for the best that the spotlight gets traded.

I'm sure you mean because of the things he's looking for but in the context of Lola calling him an arsehole in this video: the reason why Sherlock Holmes is depicted like an arsehole in most film and other adaptations is because those are based on the stories that are in the public domain and the stories where he becomes more friendly are still copyrighted. So the right-holders, themselves massive pricks, forbid anyone from depicting him friendly until the copyright has run out, I shit you not. They copyrighted a character trait.
I feel like these two will enjoy Greed Island because they just ''get'' the shows themes very well. I find a lot of HxH reactors/viewers that don't enjoy GI don't really ''get'' the show and just want to see exciting Nen battles and call everything in between ''boring.''
Now if you want you can read the special manga chapter to know more about Kurapika past, how the Geney Ryodan killed the Kurta Clan and why Kurapika survived, ( and who is Pyro). This is just a two-parts One Shot chapter released around the time York Shin ended (2013), that was never animated Search for "HunterXHunter Chapter 0" or "Kurapika's Past One Shot". The reading of the chapter will not affect how you watch the rest of the show, since it was released after Chimera Ant arc end
Parts of it were animated in the cinema film Phantom Rouge as a flashback, which this one-shot was actually made for by Togashi. That's why it was only given out for free when it was shown in cinemas and isn't available anymore, legally.
This is not really a spoiler since it has no impact on the plot or whatsoever but Kurapika's story in the anime is basically over. However his story continues in the manga after the events when the anime ended. Just imagine if this anime never stopped. We haven't seen kurapika in almost 100 episodes and then suddenly he comes back as a main charachter. That would've been the peakest and most hyped return in all of fiction😂
I think amounts of money are more confusing in this and seem overly high in many cases because Togashi the creator is Japanese and their currency, the Yen, does not differentiate between different amounts like how for example in the United States there are cents and 100 cents is worth 1 dollar. It so happens that 1 Yen is worth even less than 1 Cent at least in current times. So if you think of Jenny as basically Yen it makes more sense. The current conversion rate from Yen to US Dollars is around 150 Yen to 1 Dollar. So a copy of Greed Island in this going for 30 BILLION Jenny would be roughly equivalent to $200 million in USD. Still a huge amount but not as much of an incomprehensibly huge amount, such that we could fathom an IRL billionaire like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk could actually purchase all of these games, whereas one would have to be an actual trillionaire in order to purchase them all if they were going for $30 billion each.
Rewatching the show with you guys, there have been many scenes that I’ve noticed in more detail where I appreciate these earlier arcs much more. It just builds the world so much, and Togashi is a master class at connecting different stories together seamlessly.
Kurapika is basically the main character in the Black Whale arc that's currently happening in the manga, so I think you'll really like it if we ever see it get animated. Kurapika is my favorite HxH protagonist because of his mental process and the plot always seems to be even less predictable when it's focused on him.

Those in the audience who can use nen can see it and those who can’t, cannot see it but that’s not what she’s referring to - they all still saw a giant man with a giant weapon fail to destroy it so the line makes sense. In fact, that was the whole point of him doing that, so that those who cannot see nen would see that it clearly is being protected by some mysterious power. Those with nen don’t need a demonstration, they can see the nen. You don’t need nen to clearly see that something wacky must be happening unless you believe your ps5 or whatever can withstand pretty much a shotgun blast???

For the residual aura on items at the market the nen was faint but with a player or players inside the game it’s possible that the nen generated is visible, similar to how when you’re running a heavy program, your pc will physically get hot. Secondly: Even if that isn’t the case, they are at an auction that has been attacked multiple times so every nen user in the building will be on alert to see whether or not the items are the real deal or if some trickery is at play so I think it’s safe to assume pretty much everyone is using Gyo. And remember, we (the audience) see things mainly through the eyes of our protagonists - for instance when Gon fought Hisoka, we didn’t see his bungee gum until Gon was alerted to it and then we saw it when he saw it - so if Gon and Killua are using Gyo, then it makes sense that we will also see it as the audience. Pro nen users will know when to use Gyo, that has been mentioned a couple of times in the series (I believe first by Wing, then reinforced in the Hisoka battle and the market side story and then further reinforced by Bisky in the Greed Island Arc), so multiple hunters including Gon and Killua, who have been using Gyo at the markets to identify high value products, will be using it here. But above all, either way, the line still makes sense because she is not referring to the nen around the game, she is referring to the demonstration. A mysterious power HAS to be at play because as you can see, a giant man with a giant weapon used all of his strength to try and destroy it and it didn’t leave a scratch. It’s the same as a magician playing up the crowd “as you can see, I used magic to make this deck of cards disappear!” - same concept, except with nen it’s real and not a slight of hand.

This scene exists in the manga as I've already mentioned, so I am of course not referring to the demonstration itself. Sorry if I was too vague, I meant the depiction of Nen on the big screen where in the manga it was only on the actual console because why would a normal camera record Nen visibly? The anime makes it look like she is referring to that depiction of Nen. Also, this is not the underground auction that is run by the mafia but the "proper" auction in the Southernpiece auction house (a reference to the real-world Sotheby's auction house). The anime glosses over that a bit so most reactors miss that detail too.
I love Greed Island. And while at the beginning I didn't like the main antagonist. Now after rewatching it multiple times I think he is kinda underrated.

Don’t expect it to immediately start hitting you wham after wham as the best arc ever. It’s a slow build imo, and I’d rather you go into it thinking it’s vastly overrated than go in expecting miracles (even if it is, in fact, my favorite arc).

I just hope the Hunter X Hunter fandom don't lower the enjoyment of the Chimera Ant Arc for them like they did for me.
Because of the massive hype people give this arc, I went in with my guard up to avoid being disappointed with unreasonable expectations. And that causes me to get into the arc with a guarded and more negative mindset, telling myself "it won't be as good as people make it out to be" in order to lower my expectations, which causes me to have said negative mindset.
My experience with Chimera Ant Arc so far has been "My mind has not been blown yet, when is that going to happen?", granted I'm about halfway through it and I hear the second half is where things really kick off, but I'm sure the overhype really screwed my enjoyment of this beloved arc.
Hunter X Hunter fans reading this, please just shut up about the Chimera Ant Arc. I've seen a couple different reaction channels react to this show and literally every episode before this arc is littered with people hyping it. In my opinion you guys are really doing a disservice to this show behaving like this.

I completely agree that it’s for the best that Kurapika steps back for a bit (a while). Kurapika is my favorite and he absolutely owns any scene he’s in (manga reader here he’s currently to kil rocking my world) but it’s for the best that the spotlight gets traded.

I'm sure you mean because of the things he's looking for but in the context of Lola calling him an arsehole in this video: the reason why Sherlock Holmes is depicted like an arsehole in most film and other adaptations is because those are based on the stories that are in the public domain and the stories where he becomes more friendly are still copyrighted. So the right-holders, themselves massive pricks, forbid anyone from depicting him friendly until the copyright has run out, I shit you not. They copyrighted a character trait.
I feel like these two will enjoy Greed Island because they just ''get'' the shows themes very well. I find a lot of HxH reactors/viewers that don't enjoy GI don't really ''get'' the show and just want to see exciting Nen battles and call everything in between ''boring.''

Search for "HunterXHunter Chapter 0" or "Kurapika's Past One Shot". The reading of the chapter will not affect how you watch the rest of the show, since it was released after Chimera Ant arc end
Parts of it were animated in the cinema film Phantom Rouge as a flashback, which this one-shot was actually made for by Togashi. That's why it was only given out for free when it was shown in cinemas and isn't available anymore, legally.
This is not really a spoiler since it has no impact on the plot or whatsoever but
Kurapika's story in the anime is basically over. However his story continues in the manga after the events when the anime ended. Just imagine if this anime never stopped. We haven't seen kurapika in almost 100 episodes and then suddenly he comes back as a main charachter. That would've been the peakest and most hyped return in all of fiction😂

I think amounts of money are more confusing in this and seem overly high in many cases because Togashi the creator is Japanese and their currency, the Yen, does not differentiate between different amounts like how for example in the United States there are cents and 100 cents is worth 1 dollar. It so happens that 1 Yen is worth even less than 1 Cent at least in current times.
So if you think of Jenny as basically Yen it makes more sense. The current conversion rate from Yen to US Dollars is around 150 Yen to 1 Dollar. So a copy of Greed Island in this going for 30 BILLION Jenny would be roughly equivalent to $200 million in USD. Still a huge amount but not as much of an incomprehensibly huge amount, such that we could fathom an IRL billionaire like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk could actually purchase all of these games, whereas one would have to be an actual trillionaire in order to purchase them all if they were going for $30 billion each.

Never understood the people who disliked Greed Island, It's a great arc.
Rewatching the show with you guys, there have been many scenes that I’ve noticed in more detail where I appreciate these earlier arcs much more. It just builds the world so much, and Togashi is a master class at connecting different stories together seamlessly.

The song is about Gon and Killua's friendship. I get tearful every time it plays in ep 147. The girls are gonna cry buckets in that episode.
Kurapika is basically the main character in the Black Whale arc that's currently happening in the manga, so I think you'll really like it if we ever see it get animated. Kurapika is my favorite HxH protagonist because of his mental process and the plot always seems to be even less predictable when it's focused on him.

Wait, why doesn’t that scene with the guy trying to smash the game console make sense? Are you referring to her line “as you can see, there is a mysterious power…” because that does make sense. Those in the audience who can use nen can see it and those who can’t, cannot see it but that’s not what she’s referring to - they all still saw a giant man with a giant weapon fail to destroy it so the line makes sense. In fact, that was the whole point of him doing that, so that those who cannot see nen would see that it clearly is being protected by some mysterious power. Those with nen don’t need a demonstration, they can see the nen.
You don’t need nen to clearly see that something wacky must be happening unless you believe your ps5 or whatever can withstand pretty much a shotgun blast???

First: Gyo may not be necessary to the nen. For the residual aura on items at the market the nen was faint but with a player or players inside the game it’s possible that the nen generated is visible, similar to how when you’re running a heavy program, your pc will physically get hot.
Secondly: Even if that isn’t the case, they are at an auction that has been attacked multiple times so every nen user in the building will be on alert to see whether or not the items are the real deal or if some trickery is at play so I think it’s safe to assume pretty much everyone is using Gyo. And remember, we (the audience) see things mainly through the eyes of our protagonists - for instance when Gon fought Hisoka, we didn’t see his bungee gum until Gon was alerted to it and then we saw it when he saw it - so if Gon and Killua are using Gyo, then it makes sense that we will also see it as the audience.
Pro nen users will know when to use Gyo, that has been mentioned a couple of times in the series (I believe first by Wing, then reinforced in the Hisoka battle and the market side story and then further reinforced by Bisky in the Greed Island Arc), so multiple hunters including Gon and Killua, who have been using Gyo at the markets to identify high value products, will be using it here.
But above all, either way, the line still makes sense because she is not referring to the nen around the game, she is referring to the demonstration. A mysterious power HAS to be at play because as you can see, a giant man with a giant weapon used all of his strength to try and destroy it and it didn’t leave a scratch. It’s the same as a magician playing up the crowd “as you can see, I used magic to make this deck of cards disappear!” - same concept, except with nen it’s real and not a slight of hand.

This scene exists in the manga as I've already mentioned, so I am of course not referring to the demonstration itself. Sorry if I was too vague, I meant the depiction of Nen on the big screen where in the manga it was only on the actual console because why would a normal camera record Nen visibly? The anime makes it look like she is referring to that depiction of Nen.
Also, this is not the underground auction that is run by the mafia but the "proper" auction in the Southernpiece auction house (a reference to the real-world Sotheby's auction house). The anime glosses over that a bit so most reactors miss that detail too.

No need to hype yourselves up too much about Chimera Ant! People have been talking about it way too much in my opinion. Don’t expect it to immediately start hitting you wham after wham as the best arc ever. It’s a slow build imo, and I’d rather you go into it thinking it’s vastly overrated than go in expecting miracles (even if it is, in fact, my favorite arc).
