It's so damn heartbreaking. The fact that she didn't tell the troupe she wanted to thank Gon and Killua by telling the troupe. It was a surface feeling mixed in with the information she shot into them. It was the surface feeling of gratitude. The same way she explained how her ability worked, through surface thoughts and feelings.
One thing to also keep in mind is that what motivated Pakunoda to sacrifice herself was that she feared that the spider would lose half their legs (according to Hisoka's true prophecy that she found out right before returning) due to infighting because of how clueless they were about the deal, so as she said, she wanted everything to end with her sacrifice in order to save them 😭

The writing and story for Hunter x Hunter is just so refreshingly good that you get to experience true unexpected amazement the entire time! (And not in that "random for randomness sake" way either, it's always clever!)
I love how Paku was Togashi totally inverting the "femme fatale" character type. Femme fatales are usually dangerous, cerebral and betrays people. In appearance they're usually dressed provocatively. Paku looks the part but her character is instead fiercely loyal to her friends, self-sacrificing and one of the kindest you will find considering her line of work.

Rewatching this through LM's eyes made me realize what makes HxH truly stood out among shounen battle shows I've watched; in perhaps the most predictable genre (while still maintaining the genre trappings of friendship and goodwill), HxH is just wildly unpredictable and continued to upend my expectation back then. I remember being disappointed by not having epic battle royale/final showdown with the Troupe to close out this arc, but in retrospect, this resolution is just so much better. Hope that they enjoy Greed Island, the arc is kinda overlooked because it's sandwiched among two of the most amazing arcs in shounen anime in general, but it's a lot of fun and a nice change of pace ^^
Another thing I have always liked is how Chrollo took his temporary exile, his intermission, as the prophecy called it (again with the subtextual references to a performing theatre band, whose play acts have breaks or intermissions) calmly and gracefully. I mean even without nen ability he is still abnormally physically strong and fast compared to most people.
Good point but I also think it's just his attitude as I think Chrollo is a nihilist and a fatalist, so he doesn't attribute much importance to anything specifically. You can see this in his approach towards the Phantom Troupe, he doesn't care if he or someone else dies. He trusts the process.

Those labels only line up on the surface for him. He is more of a warrior saint really, or a Buddhist monk in the way he views things even though he is also a bandit. 27:55 This! Absolutely this! HXH is an anime that feels alive - the heart of this anime is friendship, love... things which are in many other anime, but they just pull it off so well on this anime. The writing just brings each character to life. All the characters feel like real people, they're not just 2 dimensional characters. Theyre all empathetic, even the villains. The whole anime is just about... humanity, holding on to the core of our humanity even in the hardest of situations.. In a lot of other typical shounen anime, it's usually a stereotypically evil villain that hurts a friend, then the mc gets really mad, gets a powerup, and kills the villain. But it isn't like that in hxh.
even the most depressing arc of the show which is of course chimera, the story talks about how horrible everything is but at the end, everyone hugs each other and love prevails, and it's pulled off in a way that seems completely believable. it hits especially hard with these characters, they're all strong and are past a normal person's worries (like, killua alone is far smarter than me and i'm 20) but love is what's most important to them, even if they don't realize it at first.

I think it's cool how sometimes in certain arcs Togashi will introduce side characters who are seemingly inconsequential, but then towards the end have them propel in importance to become major players.
Paku seemed so lame to me. During the Requiem for Uvo she was just shooting while everyone was using their nen in a cool way, then boom she's the clutch player for the peaceful outcome
He is Taking that talent of his to the limit in the current arc in the manga. Every single character has a little influence in the whole story. Even the maid that decided to answer the third prince instead of the first. Literally changed Kurapika's plans entirely.

I think i watched close to 50 HxH reactions (not all episodes every time of course) in the last couple years and this here shapes up to be one of the best. Both are realy invested, they have alot to say and not just 2 minute rambling after an Episode. Cant wait for the CA Arc.
the first time I saw this arc and it ended, I was so sad as well, I couldn’t stop crying, especially bc hunterxhunter was my first anime, and this arc was my favorite. then the greed island arc came and it was honestly a good arc, but for me it was nothing compared to this arc. and then the chimera arc came and it immediately became my favorite. still to this day, I think the chimera arc is one of the best arc in shonen anime

Having 2 of the most ruthless I’d say phantom troupe members end the arc on a sort of soft tone with Gon and Killua being thanked really is great writing “Pakunoda wanted to thank you” from Phinks who is definitely a top 2 hot head amongst Nobunaga show some emotion and respect is amazing stuff and the soundtrack ep 58 is one of my favourite HxH eps
I only watched in in 2018 because i pretty much lost interest in Anime over time. But it went to my number one spot in no time (i dropped it early in the exam when they were in the tower but got sucked in in my second try), it was so different from your typical shonen. But sadly HxH also ruined most shonen for me now. My expactations are so high that i drop most new shows pretty fast.
HxH ruins other shonen tbh. The storytelling is the best. The first time I watched I didnt understand why its gotten me so invested, but then I realized: its not focused on heroic objectives, but on emotions and relationships instead. This story is fluid and unpredictable just like emotions.

@@rexibhazoboa7097 well we know since the chimera arc that... spoilers: gon has to meet with gyro at some point, as it's stated at some point in the future they'll meet and i assume he'll be the final villain of the series, it was stated early on in the arc so i think togashi's plan is to bring us gon back after some timeskip, chimera was a close to his mission of finding his dad and evolving as a person but also for killua, who ends up with a bit of a hurt relationship with gon and moves on to just enjoy his life for some time, but i think we'll see his own life mission as well
I had forgotten how wonderful this arc was! The dynamics between the Troupe members are always so fascinating. I think a previous episode mentioned how citizens of Meteor City share a bond less than strangers but closer than family at the same time, which fits with how loyal they are to each other (Or at the very least, to the spider). Congratulations on making it to the Greed Island arc, great reaction as always.
It's a ton of fun seeing u go through this series. Love your reactions. And i especially look forward for you to reach the masterpiece moments down the line. Its a special series and the writing is so good and unique
The more information come out, the more i think that there was more to the Kurta massacre then we think. Maybe the Troupe was tricked or the Kurta were somehow involved in what happened to specific Characters close to the Troupe.

I was so impressed when you said "they could take away his Nen!" because even tho it's not what happens it's really close, when I watched this arc for the first time it never crossed my mind that posibility! Also, It always makes me emotional Paku's end as a way to end this arc. Regarding this issue with the anime/manga ending, we really depend on the author's health, my wishfull thinking is that he can write enough of the story so they can resume the anime, but in reality we don't know if that's happening, because the last time he wrote more of the manga he also shared that he was in very poor condition, so it's better just to take the anime's end, and it's a good end.
Base on what has happened in this show up to this point, when it comes to nen it seems, what the user believes when setting conditions, is what gets enforced. When Gin told Gon to wear the string around his finger, he told him the conditions and Gon acknowledged it. Kurapika resolve was set and then he put the chain around his own heart. And with Chrollo and Paku he made sure to tell them the conditions and after acknowledging them he launched the chains around their hearts. So it’s like nen is a tool that can listen to what you desire and act to uphold it. Also how it gives its user the ability to customize the power they want (author is a genius) . My best guess is if Kurapika thought Hisoka was a troop member and chained him or killed him. Only when he finds out that he wasn’t a troop member he’d die.
Lola is very articulate, she should be a lawyer or a movie writer. Congrats to both on finishing this great story. P.S.: The manga is going strong, for now, and it has a person of interest in the spotlight.
There is much more to know about the Phantom Troupe. After this arc. But not all of it is covered in the anime sadly. The most important things are in the later parts of the ongoing manga.
I really love the complicated dynamic between the members of a group of assassins, even if we don't know why they kill people, they have a lot of faith or little faith (8-80) in their companions, and at that moment, they had faith in Pakunoda until the last moment of her life . I cried.
I’ve been enjoying you guys go through emotions and thoughts with this Anime / Manga I’ve enjoyed about 25 years ago. HxH is one of the bests for sure.

When you guys finish the anime, if you wanted to read the manga to continue your Hunter X Hunter experiences and you made videos discussing your thoughts about the manga as you read it just like these anime episode discussions, I would absolutely watch those videos no matter how long they were.
One thing that the 1999 version handles very well is to show Hisoka's emptiness after learning he can't fight his toy. We get a very rare glimpse into his soul like never seen before. I understood him a little bit more in that moment and I always found this moment got lost a little in the 2011 version and comes off as just "comedic" This having been said: I have never seen any reactors "get it" more than you two guys. Seriously I love the both of you for this. You felt these moments like I felt them and your reasoning is amazing, predicting the judgement chain and seeing the true heart of the characters and their motivations. I think you're the best HunterxHunter reactors I have ever seen and I mean that.❤❤
@@DisProfundis Following the Manga doesn't mean that they didn't omit things. Which is clear when you think about Kite. Also a new medium always has to use its full potential and Togashi had creative influence over this as well. Fleshing the story out never hurt it in any way he made sure of that.

Kurapika letting go of the revenge is unlikely. Just because the troupe like each other doesn't change the fact they murdered and tortured children for fun and profit. They're evil and need to be killed. Kurapika just prioritize the eyes for the moment.
U should watch the Pakunoda death scene from 1999 at episode 70... Its much more more more emotional and haunting *the kurapika's chain sound and makes you cries.... 😢 this 2011 version lost the biggest emotion of this....
the way the anime "ends" is not a definitive ending, it's just the end of an arc that also ends like that in the manga, but they managed to add and take little thing so it feels like a really good ending and a very nice closing point, but it's not like a "THE END" ending, it's a "to be continued..." ending 😁

I think kurapika would just die if he used the chains on hisoka because he knows that hisoka isn't faithful to the spider so he probably doesn't consider him part of the troupe.

I'd say the best way to put it is that the Anime ends in a satisfying enough place, though the manga is still slowly ongoing and is just going to take a while due to Togashi's back and other health problems from being overworked by the manga industry. However, He has finally decided to take on some helpers and has told his wife where the story goes in case anything happens to him.
Doesnt it make sense some of the Characters Arcs feel open? For example Chrollo being left on that Canyon. We follow Gon and Killua, but the lifes of everyone else go on and dont end after meeting both of them (usually).
To answer your question. "What would happen if Kurapika put judgement chain on Hisoka?" Nothing! Only chain jail is "strictly Phantom Troupe only" All the other chains he can use on anyone. You porbably forgot that Kurapika explained this to Gon and that Gon wanted him to put judgement chain on him and then Killua and Leorio show up having eavesdropped on all of this and ask him: "Can you make three?" You guys were happy that Kurapika never considered using them on his friends and instead counted on their friendship and that even if he died because they somehow revealed his secret he would never regret telling them... to which Gon says: "That puts even more pressure on us" remember?...
To remove nen they didn't mean like Kurapika removing Chrollo's Nen but rather it means removing Kurapika's restriction on Chrollo to being incapable of using Nen. Kinda confusing but what Phinks meant is that they'll search a way to get him to use Nen again normally.
to answer ur questions . the anime just stopped at the end of an arc of the manga but where it stopped could be seen as a good place to stop. the manga continues past that.
Dont like this episode in the way that HxH 2011 resumed about 3~4 HxH 99 episodes. This is waaay more shocking and emotive in 99 version. Paku's dilemma in 99 version in one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in anime. The animation, the feelings, the OST, the kitty scene, the memories... everything is sublime in 99 version and really sad that people just know hxh for the 2011 version.
I categorically disagree. I have watched the 99 version and your nostalgia glasses have obscured your vision. Outside of a few scenes and some backgrounds, 2011 is FAR superior to 99. Everything from the pacing, the ost, the direction, and animation consistency far outstrips 99. Furthermore, outside of the very first episode of 99, 2011 follows the manga far more accurately. There aren't random asides/anime original characters during the Hunter Examination arc, there is far less flat direction and action as seen in 99 Yorknew City arc...and do we even want to TALK about what happened during the Greed Island OVAs? Poor animation, bad sound design, etc, etc, etc. Listen if you prefer the 99 version, cool. But I do not understand this argument I sometimes see.

HxH 99 was made during 90s. Everything related to animation style, character adaptation in desing and develop, direction (important), OST, time for elaborate the TV adaptation including details that improve your watching, the aesthetic, my god... it's sublime in 99 version. Yorkshing OVAs is one of the best thing I've ever watched in animation. I really like GI and QA arcs in 2011, but without any doubt 99 version is far superior to digital animation/bright color/plane character design of 2011 version

Hope that they enjoy Greed Island, the arc is kinda overlooked because it's sandwiched among two of the most amazing arcs in shounen anime in general, but it's a lot of fun and a nice change of pace ^^

Another thing I have always liked is how Chrollo took his temporary exile, his intermission, as the prophecy called it (again with the subtextual references to a performing theatre band, whose play acts have breaks or intermissions) calmly and gracefully. I mean even without nen ability he is still abnormally physically strong and fast compared to most people.
Good point but I also think it's just his attitude as I think Chrollo is a nihilist and a fatalist, so he doesn't attribute much importance to anything specifically. You can see this in his approach towards the Phantom Troupe, he doesn't care if he or someone else dies. He trusts the process.

Those labels only line up on the surface for him. He is more of a warrior saint really, or a Buddhist monk in the way he views things even though he is also a bandit. 27:55 This! Absolutely this! HXH is an anime that feels alive - the heart of this anime is friendship, love... things which are in many other anime, but they just pull it off so well on this anime. The writing just brings each character to life. All the characters feel like real people, they're not just 2 dimensional characters. Theyre all empathetic, even the villains. The whole anime is just about... humanity, holding on to the core of our humanity even in the hardest of situations.. In a lot of other typical shounen anime, it's usually a stereotypically evil villain that hurts a friend, then the mc gets really mad, gets a powerup, and kills the villain. But it isn't like that in hxh.

even the most depressing arc of the show which is of course chimera, the story talks about how horrible everything is but at the end, everyone hugs each other and love prevails, and it's pulled off in a way that seems completely believable. it hits especially hard with these characters, they're all strong and are past a normal person's worries (like, killua alone is far smarter than me and i'm 20) but love is what's most important to them, even if they don't realize it at first.

I think it's cool how sometimes in certain arcs Togashi will introduce side characters who are seemingly inconsequential, but then towards the end have them propel in importance to become major players.
Paku seemed so lame to me. During the Requiem for Uvo she was just shooting while everyone was using their nen in a cool way, then boom she's the clutch player for the peaceful outcome

He is Taking that talent of his to the limit in the current arc in the manga. Every single character has a little influence in the whole story. Even the maid that decided to answer the third prince instead of the first. Literally changed Kurapika's plans entirely.

I think i watched close to 50 HxH reactions (not all episodes every time of course) in the last couple years and this here shapes up to be one of the best.
Both are realy invested, they have alot to say and not just 2 minute rambling after an Episode.

the first time I saw this arc and it ended, I was so sad as well, I couldn’t stop crying, especially bc hunterxhunter was my first anime, and this arc was my favorite. then the greed island arc came and it was honestly a good arc, but for me it was nothing compared to this arc. and then the chimera arc came and it immediately became my favorite. still to this day, I think the chimera arc is one of the best arc in shonen anime

The story continues beyond the anime, but the place where the anime ends still works as a really good ending point. Better than any point before or after it so far.
It's a terrible ending point as 80% of the characters' storylines are far, FAR from the end.

The loyalty and love of the residents of Meteor City for each other is something you will not find in any anime, I guarantee you this

I only watched in in 2018 because i pretty much lost interest in Anime over time.
But it went to my number one spot in no time (i dropped it early in the exam when they were in the tower but got sucked in in my second try), it was so different from your typical shonen.
But sadly HxH also ruined most shonen for me now.

HxH ruins other shonen tbh. The storytelling is the best. The first time I watched I didnt understand why its gotten me so invested, but then I realized: its not focused on heroic objectives, but on emotions and relationships instead. This story is fluid and unpredictable just like emotions.
i haven't watched many battle shounen but after watching HXH i couldn't enjoy typical shounen like demon slayer, BNHA
Just to be clear, the Anime didn't give the story an ending on its own, it's just that it stopped at a satisfying point in the Manga.

gon has to meet with gyro at some point, as it's stated at some point in the future they'll meet and i assume he'll be the final villain of the series, it was stated early on in the arc so i think togashi's plan is to bring us gon back after some timeskip, chimera was a close to his mission of finding his dad and evolving as a person but also for killua, who ends up with a bit of a hurt relationship with gon and moves on to just enjoy his life for some time, but i think we'll see his own life mission as well

I had forgotten how wonderful this arc was! The dynamics between the Troupe members are always so fascinating. I think a previous episode mentioned how citizens of Meteor City share a bond less than strangers but closer than family at the same time, which fits with how loyal they are to each other (Or at the very least, to the spider). Congratulations on making it to the Greed Island arc, great reaction as always.
That is shown in more detail in the manga, which is the part they were talking about at 3:40, about the 31 suicide bombers.
They are the Spider so it doesn't need to be an "or" between loyalty to each other and loyalty to the Spider. For them it's both.
Hunting for you dream is probably one of the best songs in the show

I love that you cried when Phinks thought of pakunodas memory. Hxh has some cruel moments in it, but it always levels it off with an equal humanity.
I was so impressed when you said "they could take away his Nen!" because even tho it's not what happens it's really close, when I watched this arc for the first time it never crossed my mind that posibility! Also, It always makes me emotional Paku's end as a way to end this arc. Regarding this issue with the anime/manga ending, we really depend on the author's health, my wishfull thinking is that he can write enough of the story so they can resume the anime, but in reality we don't know if that's happening, because the last time he wrote more of the manga he also shared that he was in very poor condition, so it's better just to take the anime's end, and it's a good end.

Base on what has happened in this show up to this point, when it comes to nen it seems, what the user believes when setting conditions, is what gets enforced. When Gin told Gon to wear the string around his finger, he told him the conditions and Gon acknowledged it. Kurapika resolve was set and then he put the chain around his own heart. And with Chrollo and Paku he made sure to tell them the conditions and after acknowledging them he launched the chains around their hearts. So it’s like nen is a tool that can listen to what you desire and act to uphold it. Also how it gives its user the ability to customize the power they want (author is a genius) . My best guess is if Kurapika thought Hisoka was a troop member and chained him or killed him. Only when he finds out that he wasn’t a troop member he’d die.
Lola is very articulate, she should be a lawyer or a movie writer. Congrats to both on finishing this great story.
P.S.: The manga is going strong, for now, and it has a person of interest in the spotlight.

There is much more to know about the Phantom Troupe. After this arc. But not all of it is covered in the anime sadly. The most important things are in the later parts of the ongoing manga.
I really love the complicated dynamic between the members of a group of assassins, even if we don't know why they kill people, they have a lot of faith or little faith (8-80) in their companions, and at that moment, they had faith in Pakunoda until the last moment of her life . I cried.

When you guys finish the anime, if you wanted to read the manga to continue your Hunter X Hunter experiences and you made videos discussing your thoughts about the manga as you read it just like these anime episode discussions, I would absolutely watch those videos no matter how long they were.

One thing that the 1999 version handles very well is to show Hisoka's emptiness after learning he can't fight his toy. We get a very rare glimpse into his soul like never seen before. I understood him a little bit more in that moment and I always found this moment got lost a little in the 2011 version and comes off as just "comedic"
This having been said: I have never seen any reactors "get it" more than you two guys. Seriously I love the both of you for this. You felt these moments like I felt them and your reasoning is amazing, predicting the judgement chain and seeing the true heart of the characters and their motivations. 2011 closely follows the manga which is objectively the best version so nah.
@@DisProfundis Following the Manga doesn't mean that they didn't omit things. Which is clear when you think about Kite. Also a new medium always has to use its full potential and Togashi had creative influence over this as well. Fleshing the story out never hurt it in any way he made sure of that.

the way the anime "ends" is not a definitive ending, it's just the end of an arc that also ends like that in the manga, but they managed to add and take little thing so it feels like a really good ending and a very nice closing point, but it's not like a "THE END" ending, it's a "to be continued..." ending 😁

I'd say the best way to put it is that the Anime ends in a satisfying enough place, though the manga is still slowly ongoing and is just going to take a while due to Togashi's back and other health problems from being overworked by the manga industry. However, He has finally decided to take on some helpers and has told his wife where the story goes in case anything happens to him.

To answer your question. "What would happen if Kurapika put judgement chain on Hisoka?" Nothing! Only chain jail is "strictly Phantom Troupe only" All the other chains he can use on anyone.
You porbably forgot that Kurapika explained this to Gon and that Gon wanted him to put judgement chain on him and then Killua and Leorio show up having eavesdropped on all of this and ask him: "Can you make three?" You guys were happy that Kurapika never considered using them on his friends and instead counted on their friendship and that even if he died because they somehow revealed his secret he would never regret telling them... to which Gon says: "That puts even more pressure on us" remember?...

To remove nen they didn't mean like Kurapika removing Chrollo's Nen but rather it means removing Kurapika's restriction on Chrollo to being incapable of using Nen. Kinda confusing but what Phinks meant is that they'll search a way to get him to use Nen again normally.

Dont like this episode in the way that HxH 2011 resumed about 3~4 HxH 99 episodes. This is waaay more shocking and emotive in 99 version.
Paku's dilemma in 99 version in one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in anime. The animation, the feelings, the OST, the kitty scene, the memories... everything is sublime in 99 version and really sad that people just know hxh for the 2011 version.
I categorically disagree. I have watched the 99 version and your nostalgia glasses have obscured your vision. Outside of a few scenes and some backgrounds, 2011 is FAR superior to 99. Everything from the pacing, the ost, the direction, and animation consistency far outstrips 99. Furthermore, outside of the very first episode of 99, 2011 follows the manga far more accurately. There aren't random asides/anime original characters during the Hunter Examination arc, there is far less flat direction and action as seen in 99 Yorknew City arc...and do we even want to TALK about what happened during the Greed Island OVAs? Poor animation, bad sound design, etc, etc, etc.
Listen if you prefer the 99 version, cool. But I do not understand this argument I sometimes see.

HxH 99 was made during 90s. Everything related to animation style, character adaptation in desing and develop, direction (important), OST, time for elaborate the TV adaptation including details that improve your watching, the aesthetic, my god... it's sublime in 99 version. Yorkshing OVAs is one of the best thing I've ever watched in animation.
I really like GI and QA arcs in 2011, but without any doubt 99 version is far superior to digital animation/bright color/plane character design of 2011 version
