Merchant navy has various departments & I am from the Navigation department. I have recently been promoted to the rank of a 2nd Officer onboard Munkebo Maersk.
Due to this onboard promotion my watch timings on the ship has significantly changed. In this video I will also be showing you the job responsibilities of a 2nd Officer in the merchant navy.

@@neilmenon8943 how cld it be common? Ppl wld nt wrk on ships then. They have strict rules, regular safety checks. They r all the time busy at wrk and have no time to relax. I was treated like a queen by all staff members. I didn't miss home even one day ☺️ It's very safe. Work is very hectic and maybe there can be arguments related to work. But The next day everyone is frnds again n back to business. Today's work ethics plays a major role too. I don't knw abt Indian ships. My husband sails in the US
Can a Merchant navy officer take his wife on ship?
@@hahssyem depends on each company rules. Some do some don't. My husbands shop allows the top three ranks (captain, first officer, second officer, Chief engineer, second engineer and third engineer) to get their wife and children onboard.

@@mojo7618 , إذا أردت أن تكون ضابط بحرى لتعمل في السفن فأذهب والتحق بالدراسة بالأكاديمية البحرية في الاسكندريه إذا كنت مصرى. لكن سوف يأخذ من وقتك على الأقل سته سنوات حتى تصبح ضابط ثالثا على أى سفينة تجارية.لان بعد التخرج تذهب للعمل كطالب تحت التدريب لمده سنتين وبعدها ترجع الى الدراسة لمده سنه وتجلس لامتحانات من هيئه الموانى البحرية وإذا نجحت تمنح رخصة ضابط ثانى. لكن عند تعينك في الشركات الملاحيه تعين ضابط ثالث. ويمكن أن تأخذ مده طويله حتى تجد وظيفة ضابط ثانى. وكذه الرتبه الثالثة هو كبير الضباط وذلك يحتاج مده عمل طويلة وشرط الجلوس للدراسه بها هو خبره سنتين كضابط ثانى بعدها تذهب للدراسه مده سنه وامتحانات ضابط أول وكذه حتى تصل إلى ربان السفينه وهذا يأخذ وقت طويل جده لقلت الوظيفه وكمية الضباط الذين يحملون الرخص.فانا أعرف عندما كنت في البحر ضباط يحملون رخصة ربان لكن يعملون ضابط ثانى.
I'm about to embark my first ship outside the country week from now deck department. Panamax Bulk carrier. I can only imagine the work difference between interisland ship (where I've been couple of times) and international ships. We'll see how it goes. Sec, your videos really helps just to see what to expect.

Wow! That brings back some memories.
I went through the Suez Canal on board the Aircraft Carrier USS Forrestall during my time in the Navy. When you go through the Suez Canal on an Aircraft Carrier, it's so big and wide that when you stand on the flight deck during the transit in the canal, all you see is land on both sides of the ship, it's the weirdest thing. Also, the Red Sea is the hottest place I have ever been anywhere on the Planet!!

I was a seaman 20 yrs ago, i was a 2nd mate when i quitted.
My advice, dont get old & waste your life at sea. Life is too short, youll always find ways to enjoy life than spending a boring & redundant days at sea, which i never regretted my decision.

Just taking industry standard 30% hike on promotion - his existing salary had been anywhere between 2.5 lakhs - 2.7 lakhs per month
Now add 80k in his incremented salary ^^

Nice video mate. Always had in mind how it would be to work in a container vessel, and what duties in other companies are being carried out by junior officers. I work as a deck officer in LNG tankers and now I have a great prospect about container vessels by watching your videos. This is salary info for ones, who sometimes feel misguided & have poor opinion of others without understanding the essence of hardwork. A 2nd officer generally makes around 2k-4k USD/month which totally depends on the ship they sail, distance, duration, intl borders, course etc, that's around max 40k-50k USD/year and around 35-50 lakh INR/year along with some minus on ofcourse the taxes. If money is ur vision,🙃 hope I gave u a glimpse at horizon! 😊 Now it's time u grab your compass and hunt direction!
