That sign is not proven to be real. Also, I'm as critical of these "protesters" and rioters as appropriate, but you have to remember that the colonial era was a simpler era. China was poor, and it was easy to export cheap goods and make a lot of money. People didn't really have the civic awareness to demand more participation in the government, and they were kept happy because of the economic growth. Now that growth is running out because mainland port cities have replaced Hong Kong. So at the top level maybe it's not "democracy" that solves all the problems, but at least a more robust economy that relies less on shipping.

This video is one year ago. 30,000 HK people have left for the mirage country of the UK. The UK should confer the Right of Abode into the UK. This system is easy to understand. The HK people are cheated by the UK Govt. If there is no jobs in the UK, how will these migrants survive in very expensive UK. It cost thousands of British pounds. The so called special visa is discriminatory as those with less money will be barred. If the UK is sincere then all HK BNO should be conferred the Right of Abode and not LTR another hopeless policy. Those with the LTR visa will loose the Right of Abode if they are out of the UK for more than 3 years. HK BNO should fight for the Right of Abode instead of the lesser LTR visa. The UK economy will collapse soon triggered by high energy cost. So there are very few white collar jobs. If these people have no jobs for a year their savings will be wipe out. Although they are not allowed benefits it has to be possible to access benefits. As usual the UK is not that helpful. They dangle UK passport on the 6th year, it is a great struggle to stay without a job. The HK BNO have no choice but fight for the right of abode.

One question: Why didn't these protesters ask for more freedom and democracy before 1997? UK government even say "Chinese and dogs are not allowed to enter this building".
That sign is not proven to be real. Also, I'm as critical of these "protesters" and rioters as appropriate, but you have to remember that the colonial era was a simpler era. China was poor, and it was easy to export cheap goods and make a lot of money. People didn't really have the civic awareness to demand more participation in the government, and they were kept happy because of the economic growth. Now that growth is running out because mainland port cities have replaced Hong Kong. So at the top level maybe it's not "democracy" that solves all the problems, but at least a more robust economy that relies less on shipping.
