Funny thing is rest of Tamil Nadu finds Tamil of Kanyakumari having Malayalam influence and rest of Kerala finds Thiruvananthapuram Malayalam influenced by Tamil. Even the word Thiruvananthapuram is Tamil so connection is evident. Culturally also Kanyakumari could be the only district in TN which celebrates Onam and Thiruvananthapuram the only district in Kerala which celebrates Deepavali.

What I think is this place called Travanvore now was known by the name Venad and Vanchinad. The ancient capital should have been Tiruvitancodu. It should be Tiru thangiya codu. Codu means city in ancient Tamil. Tiru thangiya means where Lakshmi or richness dwells. So Tiruvitancodu means 'rich land'. Tiruvitancodu later became Tiruvitancoor and later as Travancoor and Travancore.
