Your wife is so adorable. I appreciate her sharing you with us.
That bear canyon agate looks stunning!
I just love to work with them!😊 those patterns are all so different
Excellent material..
Praise and thank to God . Genius Theo...You have always inspire us with those incredible carvings , You made us very happy amidst the dreadful pandemic.
That was really cool! I'm amazed that you do your cabs entirely on a flat lap without dop sticks. They all came out beautifully. I'll be looking forward to watching you make the settings for the cabs. Your wife is great! Such a good sport and companion. Take care you two 💕
they turned out beautiful
They are all “so pretty” thank you for sharing.
All look great so it will be fun to see what comes next with these cabochons. Plume agate= cool-Thanks for sharing
Very pretty cabs, great job!!!
Naw! You guys are so
cute💘
They turned out great..really like them all👍🙃
Thanks so much beauteus wife for inspiring Theo.
Great video
I'll take the Labradorite!!
Nice stuff mate. ⛏️😎👌
You guys are adorable ❤️ I'm 4'9" and when Alex kept getting only the top of her head. I was cracking up. Just found your channel today. Been binge watching now for 9 hour's. I've been collecting rocks and anything else I find on my walks. Thank you for being real people. Blessings upon you and yours.
Thank you for this. I am just begining to cut, grind and polish some of the stones I have. By dremel and hand as I dont have any type of cabbing machine but oh is it fun creating. Oh and thank you for naming the plume jasper as I have a few pieces and wasnt exactly sure the name. And thank you for the tip on labradorite as I have a nice piece and was not sure how to work with it. I could go on thanking you for certain aspects but an overall thank you will cover the rest lol.
I used a flat lap for years and found the faceting is much less if you put it on a dop stick. It's easier to keep it moving on a stick. Be safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
Thanks so much for sharing your incredible talents in making those gorgeous rocks more awesome art and most stunning piece of jewelry.
So cute u two are!!!!!!😊
6:15 the water all looks like it's dripping in slow-mo while everything else is superfast
Hi Theo, I also use a flat lap (faceting machine). I was having the same issue with the tiny facets because I was only using electroplated diamond discs. I have now added diamond smoothing discs (kingsleynorth) for final steps of #600, #1200, #3000. These pads remove those tiny facets. Your discovery of using a piece of sandpaper is much cheaper. But, if you want an alternative this is a good one.
They are Beautiful!!!
Those look great. If you want to experiment with soft surfaces to get rid of the flat zones then search for 'cork plant mat', drill a hole and get creative with compounds. It lets you press harder and will eventually develop groves.
Estas guapisimos!!! Excelente video!!! Un fuerte abrazo desde Valencia Espana!!!
Love the cabbing video.
I have been thinking of making lapping discs with those Velcro sanding circles, but your method is even cheaper and easier!
Love your cabs...
They look amazing if you're ever down in Wyoming around Greybull area I could show you some great places.
Thank you! I spend a good amount of time in Wyoming! We just got a BUNCH of snow, so i don't know if i will be getting down to wyo anymore this year, but come spring i would happily take you up on that offer😊
I watched a show on I think PBS or something, about Wyoming not realizing that Wyoming contains a lot of gemstones, specifically a large wall of iolite I'm just not sure where it is.
thanks loved it
You might be able to get a smoother shape if you use dop sticks. They have bundles of them on etsy with the wax on the stick and ready to use. It might help.
Gorgeous!
Theo, in Alton Brown's (know him? the chef?) Quarantine Quitchen series, he often tilts the camera because he is much taller than his wife, too. He calls it a "Dutch angle" I think, and it's very effective -- always nice to be able to see both of you in the frame. Alternatively, step stool for wife? Another note, while filing down the cabs how do you keep from filing down your fingers? That looks like quite a close shave! I love labradorites with their flash of blue, but I think I might like the spectrolites even better. I've never heard of them, so will be researching them. I love learning new things! These cabs are all beautiful. I enjoy watching all of your talents. Thanks for sharing!
Hay Theo i received my mystery bag by the way, got it today 17th October and thank you for your email.... Bag content was brilliant 😁
Your cabs are amazing!!! I'm glad I watched this video and see all the work that is put to make each piece so beautiful!! Your awesome at it and it's quite wonderful to see that you love what you do!! Keep it up. 😊🥰 Now I have to go check out your other videos. 😉
Where do you find labradorite? It’s beautiful. All of your cabs turned out nicely.
Love that black one. Now what are you doing with them?
I am actually going to be doing a video soon where i make some abalone, mussel shell, and ammolite cabochons, and then in the next video, i am going to take those cabs and THESE cabs and make some rings and pendants!😊
This was a really interesting video, you made it look so easy! I sure would like to see more of Alexis(Sp) , she is so cute and she really has an eye for beautiful agates.
Oh how beautiful and thanks for sharing techniques! Do you make your own jewelry with the cabs? Would love to see that if so!
I sure do!😊 that is actually going to be covered in an upcoming video! We are going to make some ammolite and pearl cabochons in a video, and then in the next video we will be turning these cabs and the ammolite cabs into rings and pendants😊
Needing to see how you drill stone for bead making thanks
Is quartz something you would cab? Can you show how to make something out of the cads?
Yes i will be doing that with these cabs in an upcoming video!👍
I must be starting at kindergarten level because I don’t know the names of what tools you used. They did turn out beautiful! Get the gal a step stool!
😂i think a step stool is in order! And i am actually using a faceting machine, but it works identically to a flat lap
Which one was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
cool that ya showed us how you do this! have you done any pettrified wood into a cab?
I realize this video was done a long time ago and you may have experimented with this since then but when using a flat lap if you want to avoid the facet effect you may want to try using diamond film discs attached to a foam board. You can get the foam board at most arts and crafts stores and I get my diamond film discs from RioGrande but I am sure they are available from many suppliers
Beautiful cabs. I will have to use a flat lap. I can't afford a cab machine lol. Do you make pendants from them or rings? I am surprised you don't use a dop stick. I will learn and will not ask so many questions. Havagudun Theo and your lady too.
Ahhh, I’m so excited to learn cabbing! Gotta get me a flat lap machine first though. Do you ever use dop sticks? Is it difficult to learn without them?
Nice jellybeans
Why don't you use a dopstik?
Mainly being stubborn😂 i dont really like using them; i feel like i have more control by just free-handing them. Ive used them before and i just dont really like using them for cabbing. I will use them with small stones though, like star garnets and the like, mainly just because they are too small to do by hand. In short there is no real reason other than personal preference😄
Loved your polishing " cheat"? with the sandpaper on the wheel. Hears a tip that I used. For high gloss, after several turns in the sandpaper, take a piece of leather (coat from Goodwill) cut to fit the wheel. Add mineral oil. I use a brick of white diamond polishing compound.heat it up with alcohol burner. Then turn on the table and saturate the leather with the polish. This is where a dopstik is worth it. The polish will build up over time if you keep it warm and add small amount of oil and polish as needed. Hope you like!
How do you cut the labradorite or which direction do you cut so you don't loose the flash of color?
I'm sure he is sharing his process so you can put the information to use.
@@rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 Yes this was a helpful video but he doesn't mention how to cut labradortie on a saw. There is a certain way to cut labradorite or you lose the flash and color. I don't know how to cut labradorite on a saw. Thanks for the response. I like to talk to other rockhounds.
@@northernrocks543 I will ask others.
@@rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 Thank you.
Theo you need to build a nice step for your lady to stand on that makes her almost as tall as you.
Or dig a hole for you. Ha ha
@@sandmaker 😂oh man, i would never hear the end of it if i dug a hole in my kitchen floor😅🤣
Hi Theo, great work, amazing rocks!
I've got a question: would it work to grind out the shape and then put them in a vibratory tumbler to do the polishing? I've never done that, but just thought about it, as I don't have a flatlab or a wheel yet...
I love when you make. Rings I love the one you. Made for yourself now make identical for your girl
I've never been the first! Lol
They turned out pretty alright. When you were sawing the rough, that looked scary for your fingers.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJB, saves lost souls. Grace and Peace.
Why no talk of using a doping stick?
Pushing them too hard into the grinder, and getting a lot of breakage at the end of the cut. Slow down a tad
I didn't see him grind anything just showing wet stones
