It's from either Ellie or Joel's point of view. It's written to be interpreted from both sides, or even as a conversation between them both. It's up to the listener what meaning they take from it. Personally it feels more from Ellie's side to me mostly, but I deliberately left it ambiguous so it could also represent Joel :)
Thank you, I love when people pay that much attention to lyrics that I put a lot of thought into. I wanted that final line to be open to interpretation as it is meant to be something that could come from either character, about their relationship with the other one. TLOU was my favorite game this year and left a big emotional impact on me, it was a very inspiring story :)
"I walk in the shadow of the missing half." I rarely, if ever, saw so much emotion, so much sadness and also so much depth packed into one single and not even verly long line, along with the entire plot of one of the greatest games there ever was. Your writing is world class.
The middle section (move like a shadow) does have what I believe is called a diminished fifth (my music terminology isn't the best) but yes, it is the interval that used to be referred to as the devil's note, due to it's creepy, un-nerving sound
This song is just staggeringly good. The game really got me hooked and emotionally invested in the story, and this song does it perfect justice. 10/10, miracleofsound. This is one my of favourite musical works from the moment I heard it.
I waited 3 years to play this game and avoided spoilers like the parasitic fungus. When I listened to this song I didn't have the video on the screen. I just finished the game yesterday. It was well worth the wait and this song took on a new meaning too.
I love the lyrics here: What would you give of yourself to stay steadfast Could you shed all of the ethics of your past What would you give of yourself to be The best of us at last
Am I the only one who wishes they could go back in time JUST to play this game again, and experience all the feels one more time? The part at the ranch... And the part with Henry and Sam...
i am two sided about it , perhaps without all the hype and if grounded was there at the start... but again the game was yeah imo very preditable... full of tropes and cliche
Only just recently found your music and I am truly blown away. I first found your Elder scrolls one, then the half man song and now this! You have some serious talent, keep doing what you're doing cos it's seriously brilliant. Thank you for the amazing music.
Agnostic to me is the only belief that contains no hubris. It is not a creed or a code I live by, it is simply a result of me taking the evidence (or lack of) in front of me and thinking about it. I'd love to be religious - it seems like such a luxury & makes life easier to make sense of. But my mind won't allow me to believe in things that have no proof, nor to dismiss abstract ideas I cannot prove to be false.
Here again after finishing the first episode of the series and holy crap it was so great. Btw Gavin, it's surely my favourite song of all you've created.
this game is getting my vote for game of the year there is nothing that I've played all year (keeping in mind I've bought everything big thats come out so far) that I've had anywhere near as much fun or thats story was so good
Kevin Breece yea dude my god that ending was just amazing loved every second of it and you know what I'm gonna keep this game tell the day I die and have it buryed with me not a game I'm willing to let go of even in my death
Agreed, but exclusivity is, as far as I'm concerned. By restricting people from experiencing others' works of art just by some arbitrary decision of console/gaming platform preference is just WRONG.
***** Do paintings exist to serve the canvas? Do stories exist to serve paper? Games shouldn't exist to serve a specific console. It's as though they've taken our games hostage. Is that not evil-minded?

***** Paintings can also exist on walls, tapestries and even photographs, as in print. Stories can be told through reading, listening, films, games etc. Maybe let me put it this way: No book was ever written to serve a SPECIFIC type of paper, no painting for a specific type of canvas, ad infinitum. Nothing was made with medium in mind. With the exception of print on demand. Evil-minded: "Evil" can often, in modern society, be associated with greed. Please explain to me how Sony and Microsoft do not desire money.
"I walk in the shadow of the missing half" I finally played the game and this line is perfect. It speaks volumes, and it's beautifully melancholy. I just love it.
This really feels like some of your best work. The melancholy overtone feels appropriate and is done extremely well done. The buildup from the nice slow beginning to a crescendo in the middle with a very nice guitar fill and then a subsequent respite with some acoustic instruments and great emotional vocals (you really are a great singer) ending with a very atmospheric sound that really calls for reflection. This really deserves more attention. This is better than most professional music I hear.
The music sounds like it actually belongs on the OST. Absolutely beautiful. I cannot stress enough how perfect this game is. Not a single flaw. It's abso-fucking-lutely perfect. XD
Hauntingly beautiful. And good job keeping it spoiler free for those who haven't played yet. I have beaten this game three times already though. One of my favorites. Still need the remastered ver.

I have yet to play this particular game yet (mainly because I don't have a PS3), but this comment perfectly illustrates something I have said when recommending MoS to friends: his songs often perfectly describe/fit a game, but in a way that doesn't spoil the game if you haven't played it yet.
That was such an amazing side quest. The highlight of the DLC was finding his corpse on the hill and reading his farewell note... I teared up a lot at that point.
Spartanjames170 Randall Clark was a cool guy, and the way they pretty much made him a character without him ever being there was very cool, he was in most aspects of Honest Hearts. If anything Joshua Graham was alot like Randall Clark, wanting to protect Zion and the tribes, thought there was alot of simularities between them.
***** He was what The Sorrows called The Father in the Caves. He looked after them when they first came to Zion. He had no physical presence in the DLC save for his skeleton, but he was as much a characrer as any of the others with out actually being there.
I like to think this song hasn't received any variants or changes because it was perfect right from the start. Still can't help but listen through again and again, all these years later!

@H&Bogart For some reason i just guess i diddn't expect it from such a respected studio like Naughty Dog. But looking back at Uncharted 4 i'm dumb for not seeing this coming.

I can't say the same about ANY other musician. There's just so much 'personality' in each of your your pieces, whether it is comedic or melancholic. Please keep the awesome stuff coming.
I've got a ps3 and ps4, so I could both play the ps3 version and will be able to play the remastered ps4 version and normally I'm all for exclusive titles, it keeps the competition and game niveau up, but this title is just so amazing, such a true work of art, that I want everybody to be able to enjoy this.
Of all the songs you did, I like this one the best. I've never even played The Last Of Us, but I watched it on TH-cam. But man, you just caught the essence of the story, so beautiful. Love it!
I hate exclusives. They should not exist so that means everyone gets to have the games they could never play because Microsoft and Sony are so childish.
Man your evolution towards more progressive rock style tracks is amazing. I really appreciate your hard work and dedication ever since commander shepard and gordon freeman saved my life
I've been following your progress for a wile now. and its great to see that your talent is expanding. especially with last works. i mean the day world die, Halfman's song and Joker Song... almost made me cry dude! keep it up and we will support you the best we can.
I’m actually so pissed off they destroyed everything they built. They had the most beautiful and touching story of a father and daughter and now it’s gone. Rip Joel
Nothing 'objectively wrong' about his POV, Buddy. I hate Part 2 with a passion, the only character in the whole game I liked was abbey, and even then, she felt like an entirely different person in that golf scene compared to the rest of the game. The gameplay felt like the first, for better and worse, it improved on nothing and did nothing worse. And the story... Y'know what? I'm gonna stop there on story, it means as little to me as it did to naughty dog. But he seems to like it, so keep the thread civil(-ish)
@@robertcampbell3019 ok, so I replayed the game, and I've come to the conclusion that the game really didn't do anything right... It had all of the things I dislike about naughty dog titles (titles which I still love) while having none of the endearing character moments that made the first so great (in fact it steps on almost all of them).it feels like a parody of itself. I still agree that Abby feels like 2 different characters, one who is genuinely likable, in a Chloe from Uncharted kind of way, And one who plays golf. I feel no connection between the 2. And Ellie feels like an entirely different person. Not a piece of that girl in the first left. And I hate her. And the gameplay is serviceable, all the good and all the bad. All the exhilarating and the mind-numbingly boring. It's all there. Just... Muted... Lesser. Overall, im going to say that it's much worse than the 1st, it falls in all the same holes, while having nothing that the 1st had to prop it up. And while I've played the first many times, I doubt I'll pick up the last of us II again
One of those songs that makes me sit back and just listen to it. You're really good at matching the music to the mood of the games. I imagine your life is nothing but play a game, write a song, repeat. How much time does this all take?
I honestly don't know how this stuff works, I just do my best to make the best songs I can. The GTAIV song isn't even that popular comparatively. I see other gaming musicians getting ten times the views I do and sometimes wonder does my stuff just suck or is a song like this one just too niche to be that popular. I don't know. If I knew the secrets to getting loads of views I'd use them, lol :D
That's what I thought of the Walking Dead TV show. Everyone was so hype about it (that's how you use the word "hype", right? or am I supposed to say hyper?), and begged me to watch it because I love zombie things, but when I did, I was disappointed like never before. I HATED it, but I'm pretty sure I only hated it because people made it out to be a Sempei-Aular (basically a piece of media, art, or other form of enjoyment that is so astounding it would be used in Heaven to entertain the Angels), so I expected it to be one, and when it turned out to be a bust, I guess I was comparing it to things like Dark Souls, Death Note, BlazBlue, Reel Big Fish, and other things I obsess over, because that's what people made it out to be like. They put it at a 10, so I compared it to 10s. If they said "Oh, it's a great show!", or even "It is one of my personal favorite shows", then I might have liked it better, but I was just outraged that it wasn't what I expected. ignore next part. /endlongcomment /submitform: alpha-eight(8); fex=wordcheck; countcheck;" /Retrievedata: Elissa_Theirin; Blackhand4244;" /enterspan: "three(3) weeks"; week=seven(7) days;" /reinstate: Null; code is exempt; follow subuse six(6);" /endform: alpha-eight(8);"
Answer to your first question is because MiracleOfSound is just a one great artist amongst hundreds of other great artists on youtube, although he has gained a slightly more fame than most of them and answer to your second question is because people have opinions. When the PS3 drops in price pick this & Heavy Rain up...both are TOTALLY worth it
And Beyond: Two Souls
How was that? I had to take a break of games that were so emotionally intense after TLoU & HR.
Well, the creators of Heavy Rain made it so that should tell something...
Compare to their other game like HR & IP how do you rank B:TS?

Please keep the awesome stuff coming.
I'm pretty sure this's been asked over a million times, but any chance of the sheet music? Damn i wanna learn this for keyboard!
I understand Gavin does it all by ear, so I doubt he has any sheets.
Just found this... I can't cry because of something involving this series... Not again..
I absolutly hate this game for not being on PC.
Dont hate the game because of that, hate the publisher instead :)
BoarhideGaming And The Last Of Us 2 when it comes out, and I am sure it will.
That's a terrible reason to hate something
Jacob Cochran not being able to play something is a pretty good reason to dislike a game to me...
Ross Craig Exclusives are one of the reasons why consoles still exist.
Kaliospectre Your point is?
Saint-Gnome Cult your point is ?
GabMcStab That I don't care if console stop existing.
Saint-Gnome Cult then the console makers, in turn, don't care if you don't get to play the game...
Man your evolution towards more progressive rock style tracks is amazing. I really appreciate your hard work and dedication ever since commander shepard and gordon freeman saved my life
it has only 500 000 views?
for 3 years?
I am working on that one
I've been following your progress for a wile now. and its great to see that your talent is expanding. especially with last works. i mean the day world die, Halfman's song and Joker Song... almost made me cry dude! keep it up and we will support you the best we can.
I’m actually so pissed off they destroyed everything they built. They had the most beautiful and touching story of a father and daughter and now it’s gone. Rip Joel
robert campbell u are objectively wrong.
@@mightytaco123 How am I 'objectively' wrong
Nothing 'objectively wrong' about his POV, Buddy.
I hate Part 2 with a passion, the only character in the whole game I liked was abbey, and even then, she felt like an entirely different person in that golf scene compared to the rest of the game.
The gameplay felt like the first, for better and worse, it improved on nothing and did nothing worse.
And the story... Y'know what? I'm gonna stop there on story, it means as little to me as it did to naughty dog.
But he seems to like it, so keep the thread civil(-ish)
@@hotlinechernobyl5157 thank you I wish more people went about talking about the game like that
@@robertcampbell3019 ok, so I replayed the game, and I've come to the conclusion that the game really didn't do anything right...
Back when times were easier, wish part II was never made.
I'll be honest with ya, I haven't played even half of these games, heck, not even a fraction, I'm just here for your music.
Who's here after the bull shit they did to joel in part 2😔😔😔
@H&Bogart wish they had made a sequel... one can dream.
yeah tlou2 was soo good. Way better than the first game
@@sampotato3698 I hope your joking
One of the greatest games ever made. This song it's hard to say how beatiful it is
Anyone here after the failure of LoU2?
Yep
"Failure" the game sold 10 million copies and has a 93 on metacritic
I honestly don't know how this stuff works, I just do my best to make the best songs I can. The GTAIV song isn't even that popular comparatively. I see other gaming musicians getting ten times the views I do and sometimes wonder does my stuff just suck or is a song like this one just too niche to be that popular. I don't know. If I knew the secrets to getting loads of views I'd use them, lol :D
I love this song, but I honestly thought that The Last Of Us was a bit overrated :/
A good game, no less. Just not deserving of all the praise it got.

Thank you Gavin. I'm in a hard fase of my life and your music really helps. Thank you.
I haven't played this game yet, but one minute into this song and I fell in love with it.
6 years ago. Still think about the game almost everyday. wow
This is one of your best songs imo. Great lyrics, atmosphere and variations in sound.
I can't explain how I feel while listening and singing your songs, It's just amazing, Thanks for doing this
I would listen to your songs twenty-four-seven if I could... They are so awesome.
I actually went out in drag one Halloween. I should post up the pictures sometime. Haah
Woot! This is now my birthday song. Another great song, keep up the fantastic work Gavin Dunne!
Answer to your first question is because MiracleOfSound is just a one great artist amongst hundreds of other great artists on youtube, although he has gained a slightly more fame than most of them and answer to your second question is because people have opinions.
May you now live your life a littlebit wiser.
The Best of Us and Light the Fires Far are my absolute favorites. You have a lot of talent, bud. Thanks for sharing it :D
This was amazing. This song, It brought back ALL the feels I felt from the game...Very well done.
