I also love the tragic inevitability conferred. It's not an "if", that is to be nobly avoided. It's a "when". Honour WILL die, and still there's no question of any warrior going astray from doing what they must.

His uncle would undoubtedly have killed him, because that is what he is compelled to do by his code, but Jin has freed himself from those bindings, Jin is free to spare a man that is compelled to kill him. In the theme of the game honour compels loss and dishonour prevents it. Jin becomes stronger because he refuses to adhere to the code, a code that commands him to kill a man he cares deeply about, it is the dishonourable act that preserves the life of a man that adheres to honour. A delightful contrast and a fitting end to the story of Jin.
shinyelf it’s a great take on it. However, I still feel like the other ending shows that Jin still respects the code despite breaking it for the greater good of Tsushima by honoring Shimura with a proper death. Letting him live would be a hard hit for Shimura’s credibility as the Jito and a samurai since he failed to grant the Shogun’s will (which would probably result in his death anyway). I believe giving him an honorable death is showing respect and sympathy to him in the end
But if you want to plsy honerfull and one other enemy player stabbs you in the back is unfair. Thats why FOR HONOR, THE GAME WITHOUT HONOR sentenc exists

Honor truly does die in this game, at the start you have your samurai tactics and you fight with honor but eventually......Honor starts too fade away, you kill more and more from the shadows, you realize how much easier it is this way, why fight with a blade? When you have kunai and bombs? Arrows and poison? You then realize, honor has indeed died. Brutes will fight themselves and then choke on the bits of there own organs and blood. Flesh will burn, bombs will blow away the rest, any left will be fallen by arrows. You are a Ghost, not a Samurai, and a Ghost has no need for a katana. They will never see you, but they will know you are there. Killed by the Ghost, no longer a *man* but a *monster.*
Actually that katana becomes less a symbol of honor and more a symbol of fear. As Jin walks the path of the hitokiri, that blade will strike fear into the hearts of the mongols who see it
@@supervegito8340 The mongols are the monsters, Bushido is flawed (and was in general flawed during the 13th century where this takes place) and so Jin has to adapt. The entire game is a love-letter to Sun Tzu's Art of War and Akira Kurosawa's samurai movies.
Sakai Jin had obtained the greatest kind of honor( at least in Vietnamese tradition). He won a whole war, saved his people from annialation by teaching them to unite and fight back the foreign babarian invader. That was the greatest good and beyond the meaning of honor in western understanding.
Which is what made the ending all the more depressing. He won the war and saved his people, but now he'll be hunted for the rest of his life, and as far as we know the only one who stuck with him is Yuna and maybe Norio. Sensei can't help him since he's technically still samurai. Lady Masako might, but we're not sure what happened to her after the war was over, and while I do think Norio would help Jin when and where he could, it would have to be done in secret if he doesn't want trouble to come to Ceder Temple
@@connorhilchie2779 Yuna, I'd be willing to bet, helps him. Not a chance she doesn't. Norio is probably undergoing some form of penance for his rage. Lady Makaso isn't a conventional samurai, so she might argue for forgiveness. Kenji probably also helps Jin, not to mention *every single peasant on the island.* The samurai, as if they didn't already have problems trying to find the Ghost, have to deal with a population that does not want the Ghost to be found.
Coughs in western honor. To call the mongol's barbarians is to do a disservice to a proud warrior race. Also have you read Western history. Honor kinda was a thing. And there were people that discarded there honor to fight for the greater good. There is no honor in assassination, poisoning, or biological warfare. Some times all you have it's fear and the west does fear better then anyone
Ehh most people would consider for example the French resistance during WW2 honorable, this is less western concept of honor and more of a Japanese concept of honor approximately 200 years ago.
Years ago, I remember I was reading through a gaming mag on the bus. It mentioned a game about the Mongol invasion of Japan, and I thought ''oh cool, that sounds like a time period not really explored in games. I doubt it'll come out any time soon''. And then lo and behold, Ghost of Tsushima comes out and is considered one of the best games of 2020.
Love this one, but it doesn't quite reach "Rebirth" levels of headbanging for me. That song is an absolute banger. However, this bit: "Ghosts of the fallen The wind is ever guiding Vengeance is calling A specter in the night" I'm just re-playing this over and over. It's so good! I actually have the Odachi letter opener from the Sekiro Deluxe Edition physical copy at Gamestop and now I just picture that thing being wielded by Jin Sakai for some reason lol.

As someone who writes Japanese folk tales and haiku, I love what you did with the song lyrics. I also love how you can mix traditional Japanese music flavors into your own rock. It's quite good. I was bedridden, so late to actually see this song, and haven't gotten to play the game, but all the same, this was great to come back to. Keep up the good work!

Absolutely stunning work as always. I never got to play the game as I own no consoles, but this really took me into it. It is a good portrayal, to drag me in without having ever played it. God damn that was an amazing experience to listen through. @@riceoawsozm96 A difference is that the wolf was never a samurai, he was never constrained by the code and never had to suffer under the expectations of honour. While one of the central lines is "hesitation is defeat" that only goes to the two bonds wolf has, his master and his father, never a generalized honour. Jin on the other hand still holds himself to a code "for my home" or perhaps "for my people". Hence the theme of the fight is central, Jin could never fight his best if it was not in the name of Tsushima and the people thereof, whereas the Wolf will fight tooth and nail to preserve himself, if only to keep serving and protecting his master. Merely the nomenclatures tell us something, the Ghost and the Wolf. A spectre of vengeance and a wild animal. The ghost haunts the living, inflicting vengeance upon the wicked, whereas the wolf fights for two things, the pack and survival. That is why Jin would lose, even when he is the ghost he is still bound by a code, the wolf is never restricted.

This game had the most Nuanced endings ever, neither is by any means good, but by god were they emotional

Also in 2v2. It is enrageging. Especeally to new players like me, eho wants to play honorfull.
It's not backstabbing, it's protecting your brother/sister-in-arms.

As someone who writes Japanese folk tales and haiku, I love what you did with the song lyrics. I also love how you can mix traditional Japanese music flavors into your own rock. It's quite good. I was bedridden, so late to actually see this song, and haven't gotten to play the game, but all the same, this was great to come back to. Keep up the good work!

Absolutely stunning work as always. I never got to play the game as I own no consoles, but this really took me into it. It is a good portrayal, to drag me in without having ever played it. The instrument work on this one was absolutely top tier as well, keep it up Gav, you are getting better and better. The effort shows!

@@riceoawsozm96 A difference is that the wolf was never a samurai, he was never constrained by the code and never had to suffer under the expectations of honour. While one of the central lines is "hesitation is defeat" that only goes to the two bonds wolf has, his master and his father, never a generalized honour. Jin on the other hand still holds himself to a code "for my home" or perhaps "for my people". Hence the theme of the fight is central, Jin could never fight his best if it was not in the name of Tsushima and the people thereof, whereas the Wolf will fight tooth and nail to preserve himself, if only to keep serving and protecting his master.
Merely the nomenclatures tell us something, the Ghost and the Wolf. A spectre of vengeance and a wild animal. The ghost haunts the living, inflicting vengeance upon the wicked, whereas the wolf fights for two things, the pack and survival. That is why Jin would lose, even when he is the ghost he is still bound by a code, the wolf is never restricted.
