Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Autumn is definitely my favourite season for photography 🍂. Hope you have a great time shooting this season! 📸
I shoot a fair bit of woodland and low wind, high humidity, and the dew point within 2C of the temperature, sunny the day before and relatively clear at night are what I look for when trying to predict fog on clearoutside and it does generally work. I check the webcams on the Windy app too and also there are sites that have live motorway traffic cameras that can help if there's one nearby the area you're shooting.
I'm watching the colours change each day, looking forward to the leaves dropping too, can make some stunning, if stark, compositions. Essential Autumn gear for me is a macro lens, speedlight and a flask of hot coffee. With me wrapped up warm & dry, naturally! Great video thanks, Chris - have a new subscriber! (and I've sent you a RAW file, just for fun)
Thanks for watching! How could I forget coffee?! ☕️ this is certainly an essential! I like your style 👌🏻. Hope you have a fantastic autumn of photography! 🍂
Thanks for tuning in and for leaving a comment! You’ve chosen a perfect season to get back into photographing the landscape. I find the landscape really inspiring in the autumn/winter!
Great advice. I also like a lot your style, both the photographic and the video making. I’m just starting my photography journey and I believe I can learn a lot from you, therefore you’ve got a new sub :) I was just thinking while watching your some of your videos how interesting the landscape is in the UK. There are a lot of amazing places to explore. I’m trying to find similar places here in Germany, but with the majority of the land being almost flat and far away from where I live at the moment, it has been a challenge to find great locations for landscape photography.
Thanks so much for the kind words and the support, I really appreciate it! So glad to hear you're finding my videos helpful. It's great to hear that you're starting your photography journey, i hope you're enjoying it so far! I'm definitely very lucky to live in North Wales and have access to such amazing landscapes. Sometimes flatter landscapes can still offer photographic potential if you focus on the smaller details of the landscapes as opposed to the landscape as a whole. Trees, rivers, leaves, and moments of light can be really great subjects :).
@@chrisharveyphotography Indeed. I've heard about this concept of "Finding the micro-landscape within the landscape" and I'm trying to be conscious about this idea when I'm observing a green area or a subject. Trying to look for extraordinary within something ordinary. :) Thanks for the advice. 👍
Great video, Chris. I went out weekend before last and the colour was getting there, but not quite ready down in the Forest of Dean - heading out again this weekend and hopefully they've started cooking.
Thanks Phil! I really appreciate you checking out the video! I hope you have a great time this weekend! Hopefully the colours are well on there way by now! Regardless, I’m sure it’ll be a valuable scouting exercise for you! 👌🏻 I’ve never visited the Forest of Dean area, would love to explore it one day!
Basic but useful gear to have, Chris. Been said before, but repetition reinforces. Remote control app, if available for your cam is also helpful - remote shooting w/screen you can preview comfortably on phone from nearby shelter. Plastic bag still a standard, IMO. Do you prefer tripod 3-way gear head over ball head? A right angle cam bracket attachment can also be helpful, especially for steady vertical compositions. Am running Android 14 - Play Store says Clear Outside not compatible, but will look for alternative. Cheers!
Thanks Paul! Much appreciated and thanks for watching! Remote control is certainly a great tool in those situations! I’ve only used a ball head and I enjoy the flexibility but I want to upgrade my tripod next year and invest in a geared head! The precision and micro adjustments really interests me! What do you use? That’s a shame about the Clear Outside app! I’m an Apple user but I’m sure there are alternatives! The Windy app will allow you to track a lot of the same data points
@@chrisharveyphotography I use a Benro 3 way gear head. Good for precise comps, but does take more time to adjust each dimension. Worth the investment, IMO.
I'll use these 5 tips during my visit to the West Coast of Vancouver Island in Canada; I'll likely send you a photo from that very different forest from N. Wales woodlands.
Thanks so much! I’ve honestly been blown away by the performance of that lens. Optically it’s fantastic. You do sacrifice aperture with it being a variable aperture lens but I rarely shoot at wide apertures so it’s perfect. I’m normally shooting between f5.6 and f11 so I don’t see it as an issue! As far as kit lenses go, it has to be one of the best 👌🏻📸
Ah thanks so much bud! Really appreciate it! Means a lot! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video mate, was definitely one of those days where photo conditions weren’t the best so I focussed more on the videography! Hopefully it still made for an ok watch though 🤞🏻☺️
It was lovely! As well as being educational, it’s very relaxing too. It’s nice to see what North Wales is like this time of year and notice the subtle differences from North Yorkshire! By the way, I think a video showing the benefits of a polariser (when conditions are right!) would be great! It’s not something I’ve used before. Cheers Chris!
Thanks Matty! Really appreciate you checking out the video! This was actually shot last weekend, so only a week ago! The silver birch leaves and the bracken have started turning but still quite a lot of green in this location! It’s definitely turning though! 🍂
Congrats on the 3k Chris! 🎉 Love your video idea of sharing other peoples work and showing how you would go about editing those. I'll definitely submit something this week 😊
Thanks so much Chris! Really appreciate your support and it’s been great to connect with you and your work this year! 🙏🏻😊 looking forward to seeing your photos mate, thanks for participating!
Quality video as always matey! Shall I send you one of my (very few) street photos as a complete curveball for the raw editing video? Im imagining most of them are going to be landscape submissions haha! 😅
Thanks for watching bud! Need to catch up on your latest video! Mate, send it in, I’d love to give that a go! 👌🏻😄 street photography isn’t something I do a lot of so will be an interesting challenge!
Congratulations on the 3k! Lately I've been doing flash portraits of mushrooms (gotta freeze all that fungal action) and loving that indie sleaze look. Have you considered using color filters to increase haze (and fixing the hue in post)? I know they're usually used for BW film but they might give interesting results in color too.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the support! Flash portraits of mushrooms is such a fantastic concept and I’m sure you’ve achieved some really interesting and unique photos! I’ve not considered using colour filters in my digital photography! That’s a thought! I shoot film too so have been looking into them (mainly for b&w photos which I’m getting more and more into these days).

Hi Chris great video. I already use Windy and Clear Outside but I've found CO to be fairly inaccurate of late and I'm not alone so I don't know what has changed with them. I've also just signed up for the newsletter
