Fortunately, there are still brave, dignified and supportive people like you in Ukraine who are trying to help people who have nothing left because of this shameful barbarity that is taking everything away from them. And I also admire that you keep your humour. You have all my sympathy, admiration and friendship. You are the living testimony that humanity still exists.

Vehicles in of any type in a war zone have a very short life expectancy, so using cheap, second hand cars in a war zone are actually a good idea so long as they are not in critical roles. Simply. using them to move supplies or transport people in rear areas makes a lot of sense so you can use the best vehicles for combat purposes.

Door handles need oil oil oil!!!. I'm a rich guy in USA, but I bought a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck for $600. I replaced the door hinge bushings and both inside and outside door handles, a used engine and transmission and exhaust repaired, both ball joints, new brakes from junkyard, and I just drove it 2000 trouble free miles. I wish I was there to help you. CoUrAge 💟😄

      "huge spare parts market"
situation in ukraine might be different.
But I see a huge advantage for older cars as modern cars (since the 1990s) became more difficult up to that point were you can't simply bypass electronics because failsafe cut off the whole system :(

@@slippingsnake It is harder to bypass electronics on anything 2001 or newer, but certainly not impossible. Takes a little more head scratching/ bypass wiring/ mixing older electronics with newer.

You say there's a problem with the turbo on this car. I have a 2002 1.9 TDi Skoda which started having problems with turbo boost and the process I describe here fixed it. Obviously, lack of turbo boost could be due to various things, some of which are expensive to fix and involve a fair amount of work. But if all the control hoses and actuators seem to be more or less okay and the turbo fan isn't actually rattling around in its housing, this possible fix is simple and cheap.
Turbos often get obstructed by a build up of soot from the exhaust. At least some of the time, it is possible to clean this crap out with ordinary household foam oven cleaner. (The common brand in the UK is Mr Muscle, but any foaming aerosol oven cleaner containing sodium hydroxide will work.) You simply remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust inlet side of the turbo, fill the inside of the turbo up with foam and let it sit for 20 minutes or so for the cleaner to soak in. It's a good idea to repeat this process at least once when the foam has subsided. Then you replace the exhaust connection, start the car and rev it up. If the cleaner has worked, there will be lots of smoke and maybe even chucks of soot coming out of the exhaust for a while, but the exhaust system shouldn't have any problems handing that.
One thing you must be very careful about is avoiding getting the cleaner on your skin or especially in your eyes. Also, getting the cleaner into the turbo can be very awkward due to limited space. One solution is to remove the normal spray button from the cleaner aerosol can and replace it with a nozzle that has a tube attached (WD40 is typically used in the UK, but I'm sure there must be something similar available to you). The spray can needs to be vertical to get the cleaner out, so even this might not allow you to get the aerosol where you need it. I had to insert the WD40 tube into a piece of silicone tubing that I happened to have, and then I taped up the join so the cleaner didn't ooze out. In any case, you really should wear eye protection while doing this and also have a good supply of clean water easily available just in case some of the caustic stuff does get in your eyes.

Hey, that’s not a super terrible rig, it should roll along nicely for a while if you keep your wrenches handy!
I heard Ukraine Gov. relaxed some taxes and fees on vehicles, and saw videos of miles of car haulers waiting at the border. You should have your choice of (older) vehicle soon.
Personally, I like older vehicles. The US had a program called “cash for clunkers” in which many older vehicles were crushed. It was a Government/banker scheme to get people make payments on a new car rather than keep and fix their old ones.
I liked the vehicles the wife and I had bought, and liked owning things outright, so I decided to keep,(and fix) the ones we had. Several of our vehicles are projects that I bought in pieces, and assembled. It was a good decision!
We now own a good running vehicle for every occasion and every terrain, despite being just regular working people.
Wish I could give you our 1997 toyota Rav 4! I just fixed it. It has a sunroof…….great for a soldier with an NLAW, eh? It was made for people with small hands ,difficult to work on, so I kind of wish someone would blow it up anyway.🙂
Stay safe over there, God Bless you !

Elon Musk has developed a $10,000 sustainable tiny home. I would suggest a cooperation among Elon, Poland, and Ukraine. Get started building the houses now for temporary shelters for refugees. Shelters are portable. They can be moved to Ukraine or sold in Poland. Planned communities can begin almost immediately. Families can live, move to dachas, or sell after rebuilding their homes, if destroyed

Land Rover is a British brand of predominantly four-wheel drive, off-road capable vehicles, owned by multinational car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), since 2008 a subsidiary of India's Tata Motors.
JLR currently builds Land Rovers in Brazil, China, India, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom.
The Land Rover name was created in 1948 by the Rover Company for a utilitarian 4WD off-roader; yet today Land Rover vehicles comprise solely upmarket and luxury sport utility cars.
At least it ain’t some old Russian crap, like avtoVAZ, GAZ, UAZ or Kamaz,
I’m sure it would be put to good use, to provide humanitarian & medical aid to those that are in much need of help during this tragic situation in Ukraine,

Bad news about the English language: Even native speakers rarely master all its intricacies! Your English is just fine and with a very nice tone. Diagnosing whether a car can be fixed is very valuable. A mechanic once said about a friend's car, "It would be a big waste of money to change the oil on this car."
