      Even before God’s Country Raygun was saying shit like this at shows:
      “This song’s name is Mask. We’ve got an album coming out, and there’s a song on there called “The Mask.” Later on another album we’re gonna release a song called “The First Mask” so nobody can talk about this fucking song”

  • @rckon777
    @rckon777 หลายเดือนก่อน +224

    Frownland is my new current favorite from the album as of late. “THEY DONT WANNA HEAR WHAT I HAVE TO SAY” just makes me feel feral. Raygun sounds absolutely animalistic on so many of the songs on this new album. Easily a 9/10 for me personally

    • @AIRIKSN666
      @AIRIKSN666 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      Same here I actually like Cool World better than God’s Country. Still exploring the themes of GC but now on a global scale. Genocide, pestilence, devastation, emotional anguish, etc.. I honestly thought Anthony would’ve gone more in depth with the lyrics of Shame since it is about the Palestinian genocide going on rn, which he’s very passionate about online. Regardless this record blew my expectations. Easy 9/10

    Camcorder was personally one of my favorites. I loved all the space the track had to breathe and it's delivery of a barren and eerie atmosphere. It felt like I was strapped to a chair with my eyes taped open in a dim lit room being forced to watch something truly disturbing and I was physically unable to look away .. "Let's watch it again."

    • @AIRIKSN666
      @AIRIKSN666 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I took it as an outside spectator filming war devastation/aftermaths of a town in ruin. Burning bodies. Painted with blood. That even though they’re just behind a camera, they can still feel the pain these poor civilians went through. (Very reminiscent of the heinous acts in Gaza)

    • @trustandbleed420

    I hope this album grows on Anthony because I thought this was gonna be a 9 at least. Having listened to it repeatedly and comparing it with the debut I think Chat Pile has created a more diverse, complex and better paced listening experience. God’s Country is fantastic but I think the band has only improved with this record and I’m so excited to see what they do in the future. Fingers crossed this makes his year end top 10.

    • @shieldz_4270

      Yeah I think they expanded their sonic palette with this one in a notable way. Particularly with the guitar tones and layered vocals. I disagree with the album sounding like a sequel to God's Country.

      It's weird seeing things I've seen in real life on their album covers--that giant cross in Edmund right along I35 from this album and the closed Sears (I haven't confirmed it, but I think it's the one on Western in OKC) that was on God's Country (the back cover at least; I think I've seen the building on the front cover but I can't place it). I live in OK now but I grew up in southeast Kansas where there was more strip pit mining (I lived about a half hour from Big Brutus), but I remember seeing the chat piles on the road from Columbus down to Picher and into Miami. That whole area was just fucked to hell by the mining companies.

The instrumental performance is great, but it's the vocals that really stick with you.

  • @Art_Vandalay97
    @Art_Vandalay97 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I think this record was more locked on thematically than God’s Country because most of the lyrics are about war, specifically in Gaza I would assume. I think Shame is lyrically the best track because it perfectly hits on how the U.S. has perpetuated war and brought the military industrial complex to a global scale. The references to the founding fathers and their monuments to me are pointing to all of this being by design from the very beginning of our history as a nation. Camcorder and tape in the same spirit talk about the horror and absurdity of seeing death every day on social media. I’ve talked with some of my friends about how the war in Ukraine would be a particularly shitty war to fight in because there’s a high probability that your death will end up on an instagram reel which takes away what little dignity there is in dying in combat.
    I think the lyrics on this record are definitely more focused but also more nuanced than on God’s Country because the lyrics on that album are straight to the point and beat you over the head for the duration of each song. This one’s probably a 9 for me and if they keep this trajectory, #3 will be a straight 10. Either way these dudes rule and genuinely deserve the hype around them. I met Stin when they played in AZ and he’s definitely one of the nicest band dudes I’ve ever met.

    Masc is absolutely my favorite track they've done until nowdays, only before Slaughterhouse
    I'd never imagine they would so soon talk about a emotional topic such as toxic masculinity. I think is one of the worst and, sadly, most underrated subjects that affects males' mental health
    It's dense, is so heavy but so mellow, i nearly brought me to tears the first time i heard it

    Frownland & The New World are going to flatten audiences when the band starts playing them live.
    Feel like Chat Pile already plays every song a bit (or considerably) faster during performances. A lot of these heavier, grimier songs are going to end up sounding thrashier than folks would think.

    I definitely agree, on how several songs dont really have a huge lyrical focus as their other songs. Camcorder and Frownland both are like the first Chat Pile songs without a very focused theme behind them, and that feels weird since what draws me to Chat Pile is their focused, emotional storytelling
    also The New World is about native american genocide

    God's Country is amazing and I feel that from the first listen, if you vibe with it, you'll be hooked, but Cool World I feel has more depth and is a real grower of an album. The more I listen, the more I love it. After several listens I think I prefer Cool World. Though, it doesn't matter because they are both awesome and both satisfy that part of me that is frustrated with the problems of the world around me that are seemingly ignored by the mainstream zeitgeist.

      Agree with this comment a lot.
      They sprinkle irreverence, irony, and gallows humor throughout all their other releases. It’s always been something I like about the band.
      But it’s totally absent from Cool World (appropriately imo), and it makes for a very dif experience for sure.

    Knowing the blue vinyl pressing of the dying fetus record is the only pressing with that font color of the band name on the cover is illusory of the cd. Definitely something that is immediately interesting about how the uniform record mixes in with the color palate of my overall collection.
