  • PS4 WLOD Repair - I bought a PS4 with the White Light of Death (WLOD) on eBay for the Repair Challenge this week. Usually the WLOD is caused by some type of HDMI problem. This console someone had obviously tried to repair already. I ended up replacing the HDMI port and the HDMI chip (twice!) but getting it fixed should help me make a good profit. #ebayrepairchallenge2019

This channel is one of two channels I love for this kind of therapy. The other being HDD recovery services. He actually repairs hard drives just enough to retrieve lost data. Sometimes he does flash drives, SD cards, micro SD cards, and CF cards. The work he does retrieving data from flash isn't that different than this channel except he frequently has to reball BGA chips. While he can retrieve data from the NAND directly apparently 99% of the time it's faster to construct a working device and use that then using the chip reader.

TronicsFix NP....😉 Also glad you enjoy the challenges & creating content for us, cuz sure do enjoy watching it (it’s cool that every Techtuber, TH-camr, etc... has their own style etc... Ppl who have repair channels are in a “special boat” b/c it’s not easy making soldering/microsoldering/etc.... “FUN” f enjoyable to watch; especially when you do it as a job, LOL. But you make me wanna watch your channel when get home from work👍🏻).
Also think that ppl in the diff trades etc....find themselves watching the “building/remodel/repair” shows on tv regardless of the trade they are in.....there’s something about watching someone else do the work after a long day “at” work😉.
      Take Care✌🏼

Hi I have a PS4 Slim, when I try and change disk, the disk drive starts making a constant noise like it's about to eject the disk constantly (the disk does eject though) if I try to put another disk in, it will not take it, but if I turn the PS4 off then back on, as soon as the PS4 starts up I can get it to take a disk and load it/play it. I have looked through your videos for a problem with an exact match, but have not managed to find it, but there was one video where the rollers on the disk drive come loose, could this be the problem? I don't want to take it apart until I know the likely problem/solution. I have taken my PS4 Slim apart before whilst watching your videos, to clean it when it was getting to hot. Hope you can answer and help solve my issue! Many Thanks, Love The Channel!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

I had the same “controller stopped working” issue.
I can’t explain why but it was hdmi port-related. OR, there’s a small chance it’s the wifi antenna (super easy to replace).
I had a local repair shoppe replace the hdmi port (bc I didn’t have a solder set that small) and it worked fine for two months, no controller issues. Now, I have the wlod and wish I would have found this video sooner and he might have replaced the hdmi chip as also.

I really like your videos but I don't understand what you do when you replace a chip even though I can see it. Would you be interested in making a video about what exactly you do and why when replacing a chip? What is that liquid you put over the chip? Is that glue? Do you solder all these little pins of the chip one by one?

@@Tronicsfix This is the kind of stuff that actually put me out of business when I built and sold PCs for a living, the tablet and smart phone market was picking up, and I just didn't have the skills to repair and do stuff like you do. It is impressive to be able to have a steady hand and work on things that small. Good luck with this season, hope you win :)

I disagree with not using low melt solder on the port pins and legs as it reduces the amount of time you need to get the port free because heating it for too long is going to shift components around if you aren't careful and a new comer might not get another chance when they pull pads not heating the port long enough

I'm afraid that my 5.05 Phat needs a new HDMI port and/or chip.
Lately it'll just disconnect while playing. It'll run fine and suddenly the screen will go black. The console is still on but the only thing you can do is a reset by holding down the (now silent) power button for about 15 seconds. Then it has to rebuild the database, etc.
It'll come and go but lately it's been doing it a lot, jailbreak applied or not.

Hey Steve, I don't know if you are aware but many joy-cons are having prematurely drifting joysticks, the only way to fix it is replacing the joystick for a new one, others have tried WD-40 and compressed air but it doesn't do much difference (or even any at all). How would an electric scholar like you fix a drifting joycon without replacing the whole joystick?
