  • Four Singaporeans head overseas to fulfill their dreams. One for higher learning, another for the greater food, others to raise a family. But as the COVID-19 pandemic rages across the world, what happens when countries suddenly lock down their borders, cutting them off from loved ones at home in Singapore? Connie Sun has made a home in Seoul with her Korean husband and baby son. But when she's suddenly diagnosed with cancer, will she stay or make the difficult decision to return to Singapore alone? Edianna Jaafar is forced to mark Ramandan in the small Italian town of Chiavari, as infections skyrocket across Italy, preventing her from making the trip back home. Don Shiau's decision to remain in London despite calls to return rocks his family.

usually don’t comment in any video but totally knows how it feel. I am currently a Singaporean junior doctor who lives alone and works in one of the hospital in Europe. When I took up this job, I never thought something like will ever happen : homesickness and witness death daily while trying to save another who going into death being isolated multiple times , I was a close contact multiple times in the beginning. Fortunately, I did not catch the virus yet. However, it’s my mission to save and help as many people as I can. I really pray this can be over soon but in the mean time please continue to social distance and keep hand hygiene:)

Being away from home is tough; more so during these times. I applaud your career choice; I am truly in awe of where that is taking place. It shows great inner strength. 👏👏👏 That said, do take care of yourself while you are working hard to save lives.

Hi, just my 2 cents worth... Maybe he/she is currently studying there & has to undergo years of apprenticeship at assigned local hospitals to be "junior doctor" (as stated in the comment)... Else is graduated not that long ago & still considers oneself as a "junior" & will need to go to a place that is willing to employment & yet allow he/she to gain the experience he/she wants... Or for simple reasons of wanting to be with overseas family members, need a change in environment, etc... Many non-Singaporean doctors are in Singapore too, & maybe likely for similar reasons too. :)

I really hope Connie can go back to Singapore ASAP to get proper treatment 😭😭 it is awful. No mother wants their son to contract the infection but she needs to get her dose of treatment to induce remission for the cancer 😢

It's really difficult for foreigners in hard hit countries in the west. For instance in the Philippines where there's a huge overseas population, count of overseas per million dead is so much higher than domestic dead, in short you're more likely to die if u are outside Asia

It looks like Connie's mum is living in a private residential property in Singapore. How about discussing with her mum to explore mortgaging that private property to the bank for a short tenure to obtain some cash loan just to tide over this crisis? Once Connie has fully recovered and her husband and her are both gainfully employed after the Covid subsides, both husband and wife can work to repay Connie's mum on the loan. Just a suggestion after seeing both with a baby in tow and one down with critical illness. Of course it takes clear communication with Connie's folks for this solution and perhaps a personal guarantee from Connie's husband on the loan as well?
