I have now reached a point in my life where I am really choosy about what I watch. No news, no horror movies, no bitchy programmes, no violent programmes. I realise that my mental health comes first, I can't deal with these things. I keep informed and if I can help a situation in any way I will. I so dislike the way the current media in England focus on the bad, violent and negative side of this world, let's focus and enhance the good, gentle and positive.
Completely agree with you and I do the same. Thanks for sharing this is as it's easy to feel that we're the only ones who feel this way. I wish there was a source of news in the UK that wasn't so full of negativity and rubbish. I guess we just have to limit exposure to it
I'm the same, I avoid such programmes and movies as they just send my anxiety through the roof. I tend to opt for programmes that are at least educational. I avoid the news as its all doom and gloom. I'm also choosy about the books I read aswell.
Excellent advice. I have started asking my partner if they would please change to a less 'dark' movie or news program. This has given them a new awareness and they are starting to become more aware themselves.. without my asking. Now we both seek out more uplifting content.
I am totally the same, in fact I felt an element of shame for requesting this initially because it feels as though I can't handle 'what everyone else can'. In reality, we all fill our minds with this constant negativity and unnecessary stressors. Some people can handle this better than others, but regardless as a species it isn't good for us! Thanks for sharing, we're not alone. ☺️
I just came home from a long and draining school day and needed something to unwind, I’m so glad you posted! I wonder if there are any other teenagers here hahah :)
Great video😊 a little trick I do is if something I saw on news or media or even scary movie/ documentary- I watch something cute or funny after just to change that mental state.
Great video Vera! My dad was truly a person who was happy for other people and showed enthusiasm when sharing another’s good news. Because of this, he was someone people always wanted to be around bc he made everyone feel good and now this is a trait he is remembered for❤
Imagine if we all took a week per item on this list and really focused on that one point. I find it overwhelming to try to implement 10 things at once, but maybe this week I'll just pick one. This is a great little treasure chest of wisdom. Thanks, Vera!
You certainly have a healthy outlook on life. Sharing and reminding the public about ways to handle and think about things in a positive way is a good thing. I applaud you. Carol from California
I have to say being confelicitous (new word for me as well) comes easily for me as I love hearing about happy things. Which brings me to one of your other points - with everything happening in the world and all the stress we Canadians are under right now I have to be really careful how much news I consume. Thank you for starting my morning off in a calm way!!
Happy to hear you also enjoy sharing in the joy of others :) Also yes, I can totally imagine. Take good care of yourself!! 🤗🌷🍵 We need people filling their cups, so they can be a positive influence. Hope the rest of your day will be just as nice and calm :)
Great advice. I wake up every morning and say, I Believe Something Wonderful Is Going To Happen To Me Today. ❤ I also have a reminder alarm after I wake up to read that verse. Thank you so much for your videos. 🥰
Your tip about small steps is like what I call tricking myself into doing chores. I will bring dishes to the sink and then I'll rinse them, because dried on food is the worst and I don't want future me to have to deal with that. But then, if I've splashed water onto my hands doing so, I can tell myself that I may as well wash them while I'm there with wet hands. So the momentum can build and I'll often have a fairly cleaned up kitchen by the time I've moved on to something else. Another rule I have is: If it takes less than 2 minutes to do, do it now. This one is more difficult for me to stick to, but I have seen helpful results when I manage it. I've had to stay out of Facebook and other social media, since I've noticed most of what I was seeing there was negative to some extent. The suggestion you made in a previous video to examine the nature of the messages you're receiving daily in the form of media helped me to notice other things to cull, so I'm happy to see this as a returning piece of advice. Giving myself a present every day sounds like a good thing to attempt. I've been trying to be kinder to myself in a lot of ways, to observe what I actually need/ want. I made gnocchi last night for dinner, from scratch. Now I have a lot of it in bags in the freezer for future meals. Easier presents, I suppose. Hahahah. Listening is a whole skill set worth putting investment into. I know I struggle with it at times, usually because my brain is so scattered, I'm processing 7 things at once. My whole family is loud and talks over each other constantly. Trying to speak, you either jump in the second someone stops to breathe, or you do what my mom does and silently raise your hand until everyone shuts up and pays attention. It's amazing that we stop talking pretty quickly when she does that. Thanks for another lovely video! I always enjoy a bit of calm, introspective content.
about listening more and talking less, in my case I have to make an effort this year to talk more- I always listen and end up not sharing much,, because I think "they're not gonna care" or "I don't want to overshare" which I'm sure is keeping me from bonding with people!
I loved Twin Peaks too and agree with you about season 3. I love all your points. Something meaningful that I have learned is that it is okay when asked for something...a task, advice whatever, to say "I need some time to think about it, I will get back to you."
Your way of making things more understandable is really helpful. Thank you for always giving such great advice. I love watching your videos, they calm me in a way. ❤
I was so looking forward to this video! The first point you brought up about a second opinion really resonates with me. And I say this as I have just returned from the “kaakchirurg” or oral surgeon at Bronovo Hospital in The Hague. As a Canadian living in the Netherlands, I was timid when it came to standing up for my medical rights. Thus my returning from the oral surgeon where I have had to have a dental implant placed because I lost a molar. This was due to negligence on the part of my dentist and I did not insist on a second opinion even though I knew something was wrong. I have become more vocal in my requests to my medical doctors in part because I have learned from the loss of my molar. And I have learned from my Dutch husband that speaking up is imperative.
I feel that most of these topics apply to me right this very moment. I caught myself in a negative spiral yesterday, and to get out of it, I began looking at "manifesting" and how my negative thoughts were manifesting negative outcomes. So I'm actively practicing positive manifesting now. I enjoyed the video and i truly learned something. I did not know it took more energy to procrastinate. I'll be more mindful about handling my tasks!
Greetings from north of Sweden! 💚🌱 You just brought a light to my cold and cloudy Monday. Thank you! I loved that idea of giving a present to yourself every day 😊
What a great video! All of these are great little snippets of advice. I am blown away by your command of English. I am also impressed by your understanding of Americans. I am sad to say we know very little about most countries. I maybe a little more because we had exchange students.
I do practice many of these things. I love to take joy in others joy, I try very hard to be a good listener, I always make time for pleasurable things throughout my day, and I’m very careful how much news I take in and I’m choosey to watch shows that do not leave me feeling bad or stressed. That goes for books as well. You always have wonderful things to say, thank you for sharing🥰
I only read the news now, no podcast, no news programmes. Reading gives me control over what I read and how intensively I go into to, and when. Sometimes i save it for later if it's too much. And other stuff like murder I don't need more than the title
A second opinion is vital for other things beyond health: car repairs, investment choices, who you marry, choice of occupation. You don't know what you don't know so getting more perspectives is important to sound decision making.
As my mom always said to us…you can do anything you want, but you have to be willing to do it. So whenever I say I can’t do that I still hear my mom’s voice in my head. Of course there are things that I never get the hang of it, but by that time I don’t want to put energy in it either. And now that I’m getting older there are some things that I really can’t do anymore, I still want to do them but my strength in my muscles think differently 🤣😂🤣.
Yes, i need to practice listening! Sometimes my gut tells me to just listen but its after my mouth starts blabbing. thank you for the reminder and Thank you for your wisdom and gentle suggestions ❤
I hear you about medical professionals. I have very little faith in the medical profession now after my personal experiences and those of friends and family. If you don't self-advocate and push you don't get anywhere
Hi Vera😊 Thank you always for your wonderful advice and calming videos. Your videos truly are a part of my self care routine. They’re so uplifting and bring a smile to my face❤️
I love the big rocks analogy. It's easy to spend the day filling a jar with sand (social media doom scrolling). But then we run out of time to prioritise the bigger rocks. They are harder to put into the jar but take up more space and purpose once done! Thank you 😚💓 x
Excellent on 2nd opinion. I grew up in a small town where options were limited. I did move to large cities but because I never got a second opinion growing up - so it was alien to me. But in my 60's I've learned now. My health deserves more. Good Energy - Yes, I gravitate to happiness because my body creates too much negativity - so since I am a Libra - I need balance. Sharing JOY doubles the JOY. Because I am an ESP, I know the results of me watching too much negativity. Thanks so very much!
As an American, I have to really be cognizant of what kind of news & media I consume these days. I have to be especially in-tune with my mental health at any given moment to see if something I was considering watching is safe for me to consume at that moment, even if it’s from a source I trust or creator I love, which in itself is exhausting, but I also know that if I’m only consuming doom & gloom, I’ll end up in the psych hospital again (or worse). It does mean that I’m probably less informed than many others, but I’m still more informed on the horrors we’re facing than many, many others. It’s a delicate balance, but a necessary one.
I so understand this. My bf is able to continue reading and listening to the news as usual but I have found I can’t, I becomes so agitated and just wish to escape to somewhere safe and I have to do this. I still look at it, but feel stuck at least for the next 4 years if not longer.
Loved the video again. The one about the media you consume is something I was becoming aware of a few years ago. I was only watching true crime and detectives but was feeling so down all the time. Now I really try to control my media intake. Even on TH-cam I made a new account and I now only follow people who make me feel good. You are one of those❤ This is also the only social media I use now and I love it. There is some good advice in these videos and now I am definitely buying twin peaks because I want to watch it again! 😂
Compersion is another word for finding joy in other people's joy. Twin Peaks was never quite my jam, but I can find joy in your enjoyment of it. :D Thanks for the lovely video!
What a wonderful video... it really resonated with me. My mental clutter can become so heavy at times. Applying some of these suggestions can be like tidying up my mental "junk draw". Simplifying brings contentment.
When I ask for advice, I like to ask many people and have a mindset that I’m looking for the themes in the advice. If I ask everyone which career path I should pick, if everyone gives different advice but they all generally advise options that require my creative skills, then I go forward with just that as the takeaway. I can then use the creativity guidance to narrow down the choices and follow my intuition and reasoning from there
People are often confused because I asked for so much advice and didn’t take any of it. But I did take the advice! The difference is that I used it to inform my decision, not to let others make my decisions for me.
When will you be doing your video on the number of items in/out for 2024? Many subscribers joined with you last year and would like to see the results. Thank you.
That is a really good question, thank you for reminding me! I was planning on making that video at the end of 2024, just like I did at the end of 2023 and 2022. However, I decided not to make it in the end, because the previous two videos of that topic underperformed on the channel unfortunately.. which made me think that not too many of my subscribers were interested in them. They are quite a bit of work to make, so I decided I'd rather make a different kind of video that more people would enjoy watching. However, I had planned to make an announcement about this in my community posts, and because of all the busyness of december, completely forgot to do that. I'll take some time to consider whether or not I still want to make a community post about it. If you also did the challenge, hope you enjoyed it and found it helpful!!
I love that sentiment from Twin Peaks! It takes noticing, doesn't it? We can all practice seeing something and recognizing, ah, what a present that has been given to me! Also, if I apologize for every single dumb joke, I would be apologizing so much. 😆
excellent video, so many great reminders. for me loved the media. Social media and streaming apps/devices, through algorithm, will only give you recommendations on more of the same genre! made me realize why i was getting anxious i keep streaming police homicide shows! need to watch more commedies to balance that. Laughter is medicine. something to add that i think we all need to keep top of mind "comparison is the thief of joy" it really gets us down on our own accomplishments and fuels jealousy.
Vera, thank you for the wise advices, though unsolicited, but very nice to think about and implement, and also for your kind energy! 💛 As a feedback I might say the following. 1. Big things first - the great rule! But, if a person is stuck in little things, esp. of the material world, it may be a sign that big problems seem to be unsolvable. Until they are solvable to any extent, it's better not to blame yourself for wasting time. 2. Good vibes, positive energy are so rare today in the people's world! Esp. in highly urbanistic areas. I mostly find good energy in nature, music, art, and literature. Confelicity (such a hilarious word!) seems to be very rare thing for me, it's a pity:( Envy dominates, and, I think, people should learn how to tolerate people's envy too. 3. People's opinions may be a great substance to extract the right decisions from:) especially if they all are different:) 4. If your speech is fluent and contains a lot of words, it is not bad! People communicate with the speech! (mostly:) If you are a good listener, you, probably, know how to adjust your speech to the others'. Two fluent speakers may have a wonderful and deep conversation if they know how to listen and not to interrupt each other. 5. Today's media is full of harsh, irritating or fearful content, because it draws more attention from the general audience (and it's In the people's psychology!) Even if I have a "set of filters" in my brain, I can't evade things which make me feel fear, sorrow, pain. Even a single scene of violence can make me feel awful. So, it'd be better to restrict the consumption of mainstream media and seek for something able to enlighten, soothe, inspire - art, movies, places, peoples.
Hi, Vera ! It’s always so good to see you! Happy 2025 ! Yepp … crime shows, horror & violent films are a NO go in my life. Even ads about them. Sorrynotsorry I just used your skill share link to tend to a big rock ! Found an awesome course on copyright law & registering your work ! In my case, songs. Fantastic course. Great teacher. I’d been procrastinating this partially b/c I just did not know where or how to start. Several points you made here ( plus your partnership with skill share , of course) helped me to take this step & it had been weighing on me. Thx, Vera ! Love your videos as always … the content, your lovely peaceful home, the cuppa tea together , & your beautiful vibe & smile. Love, Liz
Misery loves company. Sometimes it's really hard to be supportive to people who are apathetic, selfish, morose, negative or angry. Especially in families, you feel guilty for wanting to avoid them knowing that they will drag you down with them.
Vera, we watch mostly romantic movies. No violence, scary, nasty TV or movies. I try to stay away from the new it's depressing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts ❤❤
I am always conscious of having to talk less and listen more - still practising that one. Have you read the ancient Greek stoics? They have good tips on how to live a good life e.g., Seneca 'Letters from a Stoic" and Marcus Aurelius 'Meditations'
I love asking for advice, but I always focus on taking just what I need from it. They aren't me and I'm not them, but we're both able to learn from each other 😊
Absolutely love how this Chanel brings nature and simplicity together so beautifully! 🌿 It inspires me to slow down and appreciate the little moments in life. I've recently started sharing my own journey with Survival in the Island Call 🐴 "The Lost World"and about "Farm Life , Ranch Life , Slow Living., and would love for anyone who’s interested in this peaceful way of life to check it out! Keep inspiring us all, 🙏❤️
I really love true crime and serial killer shows. Lol unfortunately my subconscious doesn't. I find that my sleep suffers. And I get upset and angry more quickly. So instead of that I'm watching comedy shows and documentaries on TH-cam. Reading. Crochet. N news, or anything that could make me feel uncomfortable. So your advice is very good ❤
I fell and broke my nose. Everyone said you're going to need it reset. That means rebreak it and set it right. I got a second opinion. The doctor said I had a clean break. I got off lucky that time. 2nd opinions really matter. I am familiar with the rocks.
Love love love this video. I did need to hear a lot of these ideas! Talking about being in silence more, I just watching a documentary last night called 'pursuit of silence' very well done about noise and distraction in society and how are bad for us. Maybe check it out!!
I have now reached a point in my life where I am really choosy about what I watch. No news, no horror movies, no bitchy programmes, no violent programmes. It comes down to, for me, how much dog shite do I want to put in my cake batter.

That’s exactly what I do, too ❤

Admitting you don't know and asking is the best way to learn something new.
For sure! :)
I absolutely love your videos. You're so calm and gentle. And your really wise. Its always great to hear what you have to say. Cheers from Poland ❤.
Aw thank you for those lovely compliments! :) Have a happy Monday!
You are a ray of sunshine! Thanks you for your channel!❤
Aw thank you Allison 🤗 Have a happy Tuesday!

Thank you Carol, I appreciate it! 🤗 Have a happy Tuesday!
Your videos are so precious to me! I really really "feel" the things you say, sometimes I even take notes 😂 Thank you for everything Vera 💚

Aw I love that, so gentle and positive!
Fabulous comment - there are so many wonderful things in this world, if we only take the time to stop, listen, look, taste, feel etc.
#7 is soooo true! Especially for HSPs. I need to avoid dark and horrifying media. It deeply impacts me.
Omg! I needed a break from working on something and couldn't find any relaxing videos here on yt and then your video just popped up. Thank you!
I'm gonna make myself a tea and start watching!
Love that 🤗 Enjoy! 🍵🍵🍵

You just brought a light to my cold and cloudy Monday.
Thank you!
I loved that idea of giving a present to yourself every day 😊
Aw thank you, I love that!!! 🤗🌫️🌫️🌫️♥️ Also happy that part resonated with you, hope you get to that many days :)
Lots of love from Kenya Africa ❤
Thank you so much! Take care and have a nice day!
Number 2 is so true. I over committed myself over the Christmas period and burnt myself out by not leaving enough time for myself.
Its OK to say no. 🙏
Time to make some me-time then! :)

@@SimpleHappyZen you as well.
Thank you Vera. These things need to be heard, it came at the right time!!
Happy to hear you enjoyed the video 🤗
Hi Vera, starting my Monday morning with this. Drinking a cinnamon black tea.:)
Aw lovely 🤗♥️ Thank you for your continued support!!
Aw thank yoouuu!!! Take care and have a happy Tuesday

One of the best compliments I receive is that I’m a great listener. I learned how to do this when young. Great skill
Number 4 on procrastinating is spot-on. It's more energy expended on hating it than just getting it done.
I spend all my free time out in nature, especially the beach…it is my happy place…🏝️
Thank you, Vera! ☺️
You're so welcome, have a lovely day!
I am sending you a thousand warm hugs. I do hope you make it through this awful time. Please take care of yourself as best as you can.
@ thank you 💕 we’re going to need as much love and strength to fight this
So true! ❤
I so understand this. My bf is able to continue reading and listening to the news as usual but I have found I can’t, I becomes so agitated and just wish to escape to somewhere safe and I have to do this. I still look at it, but feel stuck at least for the next 4 years if not longer.
Same.
Your video was my bright break from watching doom and gloom videos. Thank you 🙏 ❤
Loved the video again. 😂
So happy you enjoyed the video and also that you made all those positive changes!! Let me know how you enjoyed rewatching twin peaks :D
Compersion is another word for finding joy in other people's joy. Twin Peaks was never quite my jam, but I can find joy in your enjoyment of it. :D Thanks for the lovely video!
Learned another cool word, thanks for sharing!!! :) Have a lovely day today!
What a wonderful video... it really resonated with me. My mental clutter can become so heavy at times. Applying some of these suggestions can be like tidying up my mental "junk draw". Simplifying brings contentment.
Happy to hear you found these suggestions helpful! :) Take care!
Always love your advice Vera! 🥰🌸
So happy to hear it! :) Have a happy Tuesday!
Thank you Vera for this video. Great advice which I needed to hear ❤
Happy to hear you enjoyed the video! :)
I love your natural hair color. It looks good and you seem "fresher".
Amazing, brilliant tips and oh,how much I appreciate your side note (thought) at the end of your videos ❤
Aw thank you! :) Take care and have a nice day!
Listening more is a very good advice. I try to practice it more.
Great video❤ love the 'big rocks first' principle 💕
Thank you! This was so good for me as I have been experiencing procrastination!
So happy you found it helpful! :) Take care and have a nice day today
Number 6 resonated a LOT. And all other points in general😊❤Tx

#8. Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.
~ Henry Ford
Love that one!!!
This is a very nice and helpful video ❤🫶🇩🇪🙋♀️
❤😊 enjoy your videos and ideas thank you
Happy to hear it! :) Enjoy your Monday!
really great advice! :)
Happy to hear it!! :)
Thanks
I love that sentiment from Twin Peaks! It takes noticing, doesn't it? We can all practice seeing something and recognizing, ah, what a present that has been given to me!
Also, if I apologize for every single dumb joke, I would be apologizing so much. 😆
Hahaha love that
About the media…. I was very impressed about the docu of Netflix: buy now.
Mooi video Vera. ☀️
I love a true crime, but I definitely noticed an impact on my mental health and how I am feeling generally. So I have to give myself breaks often.
Great video
Thank you so much! :)
excellent video, so many great reminders. for me loved the media.
Great points!! :)
Vera, thank you for the wise advices, though unsolicited, but very nice to think about and implement, and also for your kind energy! 💛
As a feedback I might say the following.
3. People's opinions may be a great substance to extract the right decisions from:) especially if they all are different:)
Sorrynotsorry
I just used your skill share link to tend to a big rock ! Love, Liz
Thank you so much for the good vibes as always Liz!! And how cool you were able to find the perfect class for your goals!!! :) Enjoy!
Youre so cute, You Always make me laugh😂❤
Hahaha thank you!
I am always conscious of having to talk less and listen more - still practising that one.
Have you read the ancient Greek stoics? They have good tips on how to live a good life e.g., Seneca 'Letters from a Stoic" and Marcus Aurelius 'Meditations'
Thank you!! I've learned a little bit about them but have never read them myself so far...
I remember the big rock in science class/ suggestion a TH-cam channel "blowout professor"
Hello vera❤❤
Hi Lynn! :)
I love asking for advice, but I always focus on taking just what I need from it. They aren't me and I'm not them, but we're both able to learn from each other 😊
So true!
Always happy to see your videos on my feed!! Greetings from the US!
Thank you so much!! You're here early! :)
It might be a dumb joke, but often it isn't. Hi Vera.
😂😂 Hi Robert!!!
Agree! Our media in the U.S. is the same...all negative! I don't watch or listen to it. Good, gentle and positive is for us!
Not the Twin Peaks S3 slander 😭😂
Hahaha sorry, just not a big fan. I loved seasons 1 and 2 though!!
There's an old adage, "You have 2 ears and 1 mouth, listen twice as much as you talk."
Keep inspiring us all, 🙏❤️
haven't watched the video yet, but I know I needed this /(o.o \)
Wow how good that you ended up getting a second opinion then!!!

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love love love this video. I did need to hear a lot of these ideas! Talking about being in silence more, I just watching a documentary last night called 'pursuit of silence' very well done about noise and distraction in society and how are bad for us. Maybe check it out!!
❤❤❤😊💐
