After a 25 year layoff from flying, I decided that it was time to get back at it. The technology in the cockpit is truly amazing, and that has been the hardest thing to learn - along with listening and remembering what ATC tells me. That being said, I listen intently to the radio talk on your videos, as well as other You Tubers. I believe I picked up a minor error when you took off from Sarasota and called Departure. I believe that you called them Sarasota, and not Tampa. The controller didn’t mention it - I assume because he knew you wanted to be talking to him. I’m not trying to be picky - I just noticed it because I was expecting to hear something else. I started my latest training at KSGJ, so if you happen to be coming over, let me know and I’ll buy you lunch (or dinner). Love the videos. Dave
At 7:40, you can hear the tower controller quickly thinking of the phraseology for an overhead break maneuver and failing to remember it. Perfect example of why pilots shouldn’t be afraid of ATC; they’re humans as well!
Nice real world. Like how they switched freq's. I find that happens a lot as the Class C controller might be working all three (clearance, ground and tower). One time departing Billings MT... the same voice handled all three and then when I switched to regional departure, he was working that as well.
Brings back fun memories of doing PPL out of grass field Bayport (23N). This was a Class G cutout under Long Island MacArthur (ISP) Class C airspace. Because the floor was 700', and then 1500' over water to Fire Island, you could request a Class C Transition. On the ground at 23N I would get ATIS and then speak to Clearance Delivery for the request and squawk code. After takeoff, switch over to ISP TWR, and wait for clearance to climb to my cruise altitude. Great experience working the radio, and by Fire Island I was up at planned cruise altitude. Then I got flight following for all my cross countries. LOL! Great job MzeroA.
Thanks. I listen to departing and arriving videos on the way to work through traffic. It helps me subconsciously listen to all radio talk while being busy raod navigating. Videos like these really help and even some where you didn't explain unless it was something odd would be a good packet of videos for practice. I'm a MzeroA student currently ;)
KSRQ is my home airport, we always call ground for clearance there. Loved the video, felt like home. I trained there and feel it made me a better pilot. Definitely gave me radio confidence.
those sheep skin seat belt covers are worth there weight in gold. I bought two on Amazon, and accidentally left one in the plane. Students started to use it, and told the owner they wanted them in all the planes. Now all of our planes have them. I was so sick of that seat belt slicing my neck when I would lean forward. Loved this video Jason, hope you do another seminar in Orlando soon.
Very nice! Yeah, I've been away from flying for DECADES (but I still listen to ATC Final Approach to LAX [just for fun]). I did EVERYTHING for my private pilot license (except for the final check ride). It was VERY reassuring to follow along with EVERYTHING that happened there (except for the avionics: I didn't have autopilot, etc.]). If I could afford it, I'd be back in the cockpit (in my own plane)! Oh, I learned at El Monte (EMT) in a Cessna 172/T (N734UV [I can't believe I remember that, after all this time])! Thanks, again, for your video and courses!
Hey Jason. A good segment from this great Class C video would be explaining VFR Arrival Routes like the ones we use in SFB’s Class Charlie Airspace. I never knew VFR arrivals existed or even how to fly them until I became a CFI and started teaching out of Sanford last year.
Sounds like flying an L39 Albatros gets you a lunch date with the tower. I’m sure requesting an initial with midfield break in a 172 wouldn’t get the same response. 😂
I love this video and the SRQ approach. I fly in this airspace often, and it is still very intimidating. Often the 14 departure puts you against 04 airline departures with wake turbulence a real concern.
I’ve heard that if you have two radios, you could dial up your departure frequency in your second radio just so it’s in front of you when you’re doing your read back. Of course; you’d put it to Guard (121.5) or the destination ATIS in when you’re ready to fly. Just a handy memory aid.
Home airport is Class C. With constant exposure to it’s more complex radio operations, it makes everything feel like cake once used to it. At my Class C (KLEX), we don’t use clearance freq - rather contact ground right off. Occasionally ground will setup VFR flight following for us without asking.
I love the "florida air conditioning "! LoL! But you know, for only $299 you can get an HCool system that works wonders! They had a highlight in this months Flying magazine. You should check it out! 😉
I internet searched the Hcool system and couldn't find a single thing about it, but I came up with a system called B-Kool for $299 and I'm assuming that is what you meant.
@@michaelb.8953 yes! I must have typoed the spelling. In a small cockpit such as the 2 and 4 seaters, I'm hearing they work amazingly well! Longer with icepacks.
Is there any chance to get a video from you how contact with atc in airfield pattern ? I mean an explanation about communications and speed , altitude ect. Great video like always , greetings
Hi. If you’re going to do touch-and-go’s at an airport within Class Charlie Airspace, do you need to contact Clearance Delivery before Ground to get a clearance info that airspace, or does Ground coordinate that with TRACON?
I really enjoy the videos. I've been a subscriber going way back to my student pilot days..(last summer :) I earned my wings now but have always had a question about flying thru Class C airspace. My question: I take off at a Class G airport and fly VFR towards my destination class G airport which is on the opposite side of a class C. I contact approach and they give me a squawk code. I then pass thru the Class C enroute to my destination airport which less than five miles outside the class C boundry. When I get close to my airport but still in Class C airspace and I want to switch over to my destination airport's CTAF. Do I first need to contact approach or do I just switch my transponder to 1200 and switch my radio to the CTAF and then land OR do I contact approach first?
G S I think it would be good to ask for a frequency change beforehand. Just talk to approach and say “request frequency change to X airport CTAF” and they will say “frequency change approved , squawk X” and they might say “radar service terminated and maintain VFR” which basically means they won’t watch you anymore.
Hey Jason, if you land at a class C full stop and want to depart immediately after getting off the runway would I contact clearance or ground? Thanks for the help, your videos help a lot.
I know this is a 2 year old comment, I think you could still talk to Tower, and request a "full stop taxi back for departure" *Disclaimer: I am not a pilot, so take my comment with a grain of salt
at 5:02 that isn't a hold short line for a runway. That is letting you know you're entering the movement area and need a clearance to proceed beyond it.
Hello! Yes, Jason shut the door before taking off. It is not uncommon to taxi with the door open especially in warmer weather just to get some cooler air into the cabin. Thanks for watching!
When you're checking flight controls, I noticed you do it in like 2 seconds, how do you know if your elevator isn't busted for example? On run up im looking left and right at my aileron and verifying, and looking at my elevator and rudder as well while looking back. You just do the flight control flow without actually checking. What's going on? If my DPE catches me do that the flight would be over

Appreciate that!

They are awesome!!!! Yes we have big things planned for the Florida area in the future.
I think 5MK just got a lunch date. Nice low key radio work by both.
Anybody else watching this on the fly to make sure they don’t forget to do anything before departing a class C
Thanks for watching, Kristof! Glad we can help.
About to do that right now lol
On the fly? I see what you did there!
Excellent Jason. Thank you. Glad you had a great trip out to the AOPA Fly In out West.

Hey William, thanks so much for watching!
Great video this was super helpful seeing a real world example here
Thank you for making this, I’m flying into and out of daytona tomorrow (my first class c) so this was incredibly helpfully
Have fun! Thanks for watching, Braden!
Great radio training , thanks a lot !
Thank you. Always learning.
I fly out of Sarasota and this video helps me so much! Love the content!
Awesome! Thank you!
very informative & I see how busy it can get

Awesome video, great show of the procedures. Thank you for sharing.

Overhead landings are a blast to do.
Another great one Jason
Great video, real time!
6min in, John hasn’t said a word. 😂😂
Thanks for great videos, Busy day in the seat. I noticed you fly a lot from the right why?
Because he is a flight instructor. It’s more normal for them in the right seat.

awsome video

I didn’t know there’s a PTT button on the panel. I thought it’s only on the yoke.
Hello! The PTT is on the panel for the right seat in 23MZ
You should come to SFB. Stop by and say hello. L3.

the PTT button on the instrument cluster is bothering me lol :)
Is the technique similar if you are leaving a class D under a Class C, and want to depart into the Class C space?
Hey Jason, if you land at a class C full stop and want to depart immediately after getting off the runway would I contact clearance or ground? Thanks for the help, your videos help a lot.

At 5:02 you crossed a solid line but I didn’t catch where you had permission.
I don't think he needed permission since she had told him to taxi onto Alpha then Delta.
RitchieRich That makes sense. I see my CFI tomorrow so I’ll ask him.

@@MzeroAFlightTraining I was just being funny. I know he did. Like your content. More IFR learning is appreciated.
You should have let the left seater do the outtro
great..nice video
He did not request flight following
SRQ is my home airport
Hi Dwight! I thought it was KAVP?
But in all seriousness, that is cool! Thanks for watching!
This sounds like an IFR flight
Sure does!
Me who was trained entirely in a class C and has already passed my checkride and gotten my license: “Hmmm how to depart a class C, interesting.”
Radio talk over is very distracting from your comments
Turn OFF the irrelevant comms
