Alexander Albon’s recovery drive from last to fifth in the USA has cemented his claim to the last available 2020 seat in F1’s ‘big three’ teams.
The 23-year-old Anglo-Thai has done an impressive job in his rookie F1 year. Promoted from Toro Rosso to the Red Bull senior team mid-season to replace Frenchman Pierre Gasly, he has scored in every race and outpointed Max Verstappen 68-54 over seven races.

He surprised me this whole season with his start in Toro Rosso. Almost missing out fully with the preseason testing, then his climb up in the first 3-4 races. Then his climb up in China, and he has impressed ever since then. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on for sure now since he is in a very competitive car. And it’s also really great to see a fellow asian man on the circuit!!! Super stoked on his progression and promotion through Redbull!

Alex Albon is a diamond. He’s a different driver with his visor down on his helmet on Sundays. I like how him & his race engineer count down the cars they overtake in the race.

I been saying since his second race at RBR. He will put pressure on verstappen in term of points and being consistent. When he got hit and needed a pitstop at the start, he stayed cool, kept his head down and climbed to fifth from last.
Verstappen more often than not will be driving in anger, taking unnecessary risks, putting himself in danger of dnf.
Albon is very mature for his age.

I honestly think they knew they were keeping him since Russia. Probably just wanted to keep him in the dark to see how he dealt with pressure. As if driving for Red Bull wasn't pressure enough. And I think he's proved them right. Great race in Brazil if it weren't for that late incident with Hamilton.
(And don't give me that crap about safety cars. Gasly wouldn't even have been on the same lap as the leaders if it wasn't for the safety car and everyone is praising his P2 finish.)
