- The 2023 season was full of surprises with Aston Martin coming out of the corner swinging and McLaren making an unbelievable leap in performance mid season. Those two shocks meant William’s incredible progress went under the radar, as did Alex Albon’s surprise return as he spent the season regularly competing for points finishes. With Williams aiming to make some big improvements for 2024, and the driver market set to be one of the busiest in recent memory, Alex Albon could be the most important driver on the grid. Today I’ll talk about Alex, what we can expect from Williams, and why he might be the most desirable driver on the grid this year. Let’s check it out.

Alex being a main stay at Williams would probably be the best course of action unless either Max, Charles, or Lewis decide to call it quits. I’d rather see him and Williams develop each other to be a top tier team and driver combo than see him move to a better team. Would be a great story if they can accomplish it.
If he brought Williams back to championship winning ways it'd be more famous than Schumacher making ferrari the championship contender

I've been a fan of Alex since his F2 days. As much as I'd love to see him at Ferrari, I think the nature of the management at Williams suits him, and brings out the best in him. A return to Red Bull will do him no favours, as I believe they focus 100% on Max, with little regard for their No 2 drivers.
Imo the best place for Alex would be still Williams if the team keeps improving the way they do now!
I think Alex should stay where he is and develop the car. A RB he’d always play second to Max. On another note, I really do NOT rate Sargent at all. He’ll be gone if he performs the same next season, and he will.

I believe Alex will make a podium to Williams before leave.

The Williams optimism is excessive. The goal should be consolidate their seventh position. Challenging Alpine is like Alpine thinking they’d close the gap to third last season. And Alex a future world champion? GTFO. He’ll be the second driver at whatever bigger team he moves to.
Yes Williams are being optimistic. Alpine would have improved if they hadn’t imploded as a team. Don’t know what happened internally but it was a mess from the outside. If that continues this year there is no reason that a focused Williams can’t capitalise on it.
@@Harrizeb Even if Alpine improved slightly, they’d have probably finished sixth. That’s part of the point. These specific targets are so random, based on other teams’ performance. Just keep improving the car. That’s enough of a goal, and one within Williams’ control.
Anyway, Williams should look to continue their positive momentum. They kept Sargent, so clearly they’re not all in on results and he’ll cost them a lot of points. Keep improving the car and try to convince Albon to stay. The latter seems highly unlikely, considering the open driver market for 2025.
Its always been and even more than ever its that Hamilton guy he's the more most important driver who is the bestest driver lewis.

I think a good question would be, does Alex want to be the guy that takes Williams back to a winning team or not. Like Michael did with Ferrari or Lewis with Mercedes. It may be a long road. But would it be worth it?
It would be the rest of his career right? They are 5+ years of big investment away from making it back to the front of the grid I think
He knows he's not a max or Lewis level of pedigree, but he does have a championship in him. Williams and building them up is his best bet. RB, Merc, Ferrari and Mclaren all have their star driver
Alex needs to stay at Williams, he will be happier there, he can develop the car and the results will come.
Nice follow up from the conversations the other day. Alex does have the skills and I remember George coming out in Alex’s defense when he was struggling at RBR. Williams have championship pedigree. It would be amazing to see them back at the top of the charts. I think it will take several years, realistically, for them to be contenders again. I’m hoping for them to improve 2 or 3 places up the constructers board this season. I’ll see if that’s ambitious after preseason testing 😂

Ya this didn't age well. He's also locked in with Williams so he's not a feature of the upcoming driver negotiations.
i believe Albon will end up with Merc if Williams doesnt turn out to be a frequent race winning team, the calm but tenacious nature of him and Russell (granted he still with them) will be a strong team

I sincerely hope Alex won't go back to Redbull. Whoever takes the second seat at Redbull will always be the second driver. Redbull just doesn't care much for anyone else besides Max.
If he moves it wont be till 2025 when lando norris gets snatched by Ferrari or red bull, McLaren will take him before anyone else can get to him although i may be totally wrong so yeah just my personal opinion
Lando has just signed a multi year contract extension though
Obviously this was the day before he signed said deal, and as I said it's my personal opinion so why reply ?
I don’t think RBR made any mistakes with driver management in that situation. The sink or swim model has it’s pros and cons. Gasly and Albon sunk. It’s fine. They’re now good drivers, but not elite. RBR can and has easily replaced them. Same method yielded them Max.
Massively over rated.
From an interview with Albon as he went over his mental health it seems he had difficulties handling the stress and scrutiny that come with a top team. Albon is well suited for Williams as there isn't any pressure to win a championship at the moment. At this point if he scores a point its a huge success.
