Category 2 - "We've totally reinvented the idea of the Electric Motorcycle. The range pushes into the 150 miles and beyond, the system is sleek as hell, super quiet, super powerful.... Oh and we are also a startup company so hopefully we won't disappear one day randomly and you're left stranded with no service or support." I'm continually STUNNED by how so. many companies seem to think SO many people have this crazy amount of disposable income to spend on things... My rent for a studio apartment is $1,400 alone, not including food, fuel, electricity, internet and ANY other problems that may come my way. I literally can NEVER afford something like this without risking pure and total financial gambling.... On the Verge official site it talks about financing and it states, and I quote, "we are negotiating with one of the world’s leading consumer finance enterprises to offer financing options for those interested"... Wow that sound sketchy at best, as if the ink on the contract hasn't even dried yet. It sucks because the tech IS great and this bike would be something I'd ride forever, even giving up my car for. But these companies keep thinking we all have crazy amounts of money to spend when most of us are one paycheque away from literal homelessness... Totally out of touch with most people's living situations.
Still trying to ride that early adopter-covid thing where people blew all their cash on expensive junk, electric stuff in general is still mostly overpriced, oh well, plenty of used gas bikes to ride for low cost. Big tire = slow turn in or the wheel is too narrow? who knows.
Why are you so flabbergasted about the price? Any new bike electric or not will cost atleast 30k$... If you don't have the money to buy bike then just don't buy it. It's not necessary thing to get, but if you have the extra money then go for it.
@AdamasOldblade you are correct. They haven't figured how to make the same money from electric bike sales to vehicles running on ice. Thats the bottom line. If you want an electric machine you pay a lot more despite having far less componentry . I like electric they are very good. You really need to sacrifice to buy one of these machines.
if the ultra was $30k, this would be a cool bike. if the pro was $20k, this would be a cool bike. the extra 50% cost increase is really a deal breaker.... for $45,000 you can buy an H2R haha.... the fastest, coolest, most advanced motorcycle on the planet... but youre going to buy a TS Ultra, why?
The primary advantage of a higher voltage battery is it can have a faster DC charging time. This is similar to how USB fast charging uses higher voltage to reduce the impact of the amperage limitation of the charger cables.
Want! There's some huge holes in those brake rotors up front! I guess they want you to use Regen to slow down. In answer to your Why: 20kW of battery is almost 1/3 of my Tesla, so range should be pretty good. Props to them for making this bike, I can't wait for Gen 2 or 3...
I rode a prototype about 18 months ago. Only had about 5 minutes on it, but the handling didn't seem quite right. Almost felt like a flat rear tyre, but it could just have been the size.
I changed tire brand from Pirelli Diabolos to Bridgestone battlaxs on both of my bikes, steering becomes carving, they are different bikes now ready for the track
Was wondering about the handling with the big tire for the heavy wheel motor. I am liking the hub/wheel motor though,no chain or drive belt/shaft,etc. Which are inefficient.
Two questions: Do you think the placement of the battery being so low messes with the handling? Years ago Honda attempted to lower the CG on a racebike and it made handling bad, they got rid of that idea. Two: Is it difficult to change the rear tire? Seems that it wouldn't be an easy out and in.
Finland is not considered part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, as it is located to the east of the peninsula and has distinct cultural, historical, and linguistic differences from the Scandinavian countries. Finland is referred to as a Nordic country, along with Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland.
Still want to know why you would design a bike where you cannot balance the rear tire. Not the wheel, the tire. And I say this in every video featuring this bike, "Leaving the phase leads exposed is a pointless and egregious safety hazard. You're needlessly endangering people for some cool looking orange wires on the side of the bike." Edit- I'm glad Troy got to ride this and share his experience because he's uniquely qualified.
Your bike position whilst cornering is really awkward. And you apparently have no EV bike experience. Regen is perfect for neutral cornering. It's like with big 2cil. Bikes on engine braking.
On E bicycles this would be be akin to front and rear hub motors. Could spread the weight around but front wheel drive steering on a motorcycle could be awkward. Cant see it on a heavy road bike, maybe offroad cargo type vehicle.
Will they make a sport version that has dual motor? And double the torque and get rid of that max speed limiter. Let the driver set the max speed. And make it all wheel drive and have it fully customizable to where you set how much power does each wheel get. Have a fully integrated helmet that has a nice HUD display. Then have exterior speakers that can make the sounds of any gasoline powered motorcycle. Is that too much to ask? 😂
@@marty1035 well... They're making videos about motorcycles and telling some facts about them. Should they check the facts before they put it to the headline??
For EV bikes they are all largely the same... you will get about 8-10 miles per kWh on average, dropping to about 6 on multi-lane stretches, rising to about 12 round town. So if the usable battery capacity on this one is about 18kWh, expect to get 162 miles out of it. Which is more than my Z900, and about 40 miles more than my Zero.
And the second biggest elephant in the room: How long does a nearly empty battery take to charge to full? I bet you it's not 2 minutes, like it takes for my Z1000SX to fill up
@@hgbekkerit'll be an hour at least... which in general use is perfectly fine. It'd be nice if it was half an hour or even 15 minutes, but in practice, an hour is ok if you're touring. The other 99% of the time it's charging at home and is therefore actually less inconvenient than your Z. (I know, coz I have both)
Hopefully they get enough money from these bikes to then be able to make a new bike with lessons learned from this one. Would be nice to try one of these.
I'm five minutes into the video, and I still don't know how you increase speed. "left hand is back brake and right hand is front brake." Is the bike psychic?
They are far too expensive for what they offer. The good electric sport bikes are $40-45k. They need to get that down to $25k, really. Can't compete with a gas bike at double the price
For every 10,000 kilometers driven, one can save approximately 1,000 EUR on fuel costs, given current European gas and electricity prices. Over an extended period, depending on driving habits, this can result in significant savings. So, after 300,000 kilometers, this bike could potentially pay for itself.
Looks cool, Troy. Not that much more expensive than the top end Zero's, which are horrid and have even worse warranty coverage. But..........I am sensing another
it should do over 160 miles or so on a charge. The real question everyone should be asking at this point is not how far it goes on a charge but how fast it charges.
Great concept, but one of the great things about gas powered is the noise. The loud noise from a motorcycle helps vehicles know that there is a bike there.
Are there enough people interested in this too support a company? Electric dirt bike makes sense, kids/adults can tear ass without some grumpy bastard hearing and calling police.
No doubt it's electronically, damped, limited, traction controlled etc etc...otherwise it'd be unusable and/or result in insane safety liabilities for the company which makes me think it's a reasonably pointless feature of the motorcycle and apart from the bragging rights probably doesn't result in an appreciably different torque experience than an SV650 with a cat delete and tune.
It would piss all over a sv650, I've got a zero SRS and nothing comes close except the very big 1000cc plus superbikes, I had a Diavel carbon and besides the top speed can hardly notice the difference in speed and handling.
Too bad they're going to go bankrupt since they said back in 2019, they're going to start building bikes and they still really haven't. It's still the same design and the technology is already outdated.
So 30k and it basically doesn't handle. You can't buy off physics, all that unsprung rotating mass at the back will kill the fool who will actually try to ride this nonsense hard around a corner
