Bill saved me at the 1990 NE Show. I was lost in a corner. Grout had started seeping between the tiles, oh boy!!!, where am I and what's happening, I looked up. Bill was standing there. He stopped for a second and just smiled. He nodded and was off. Back to earth, I enjoyed the rest of the show. Walked back in and saw Jerry. Jerry had a blue halo around his body. But you all know that. Got a great T-shirt before I left, 'Love is the Reason.' Took BART home, all was good! Thanks, Bill. Love you!!!
I’m not a super emotional guy but this one got me. RIP BILL WALTON ✌️☮️💀 Thank you, Bill Jerry Brent Pigpen Keith Vince & the crew, for a real good time 🕺🏽
Never liked the music of the Dead.. .. Big Bill Walton Fan since 71 at 12 years old. Damn this was incredible watched 6 times in a row with 2 bourbons.. Bill Walton RIP and Thank You you were and always will be second to none.. Fire on the Mt..
Im back... 2 more bourbons and still I tear for Big Red... This is the most dead music I've heard since listening to rock 1971... Would have loved the heard what the band said after the song.. .
Here is a link for you to a version where the man who originally sang the lead vocal is doing it, plus he's playing the great guitar parts -- Mr. Jerry Garcia (R.I.P.). In the Dead And Company version, Micky Hart, drummer, speaks the lyrics. I want to make certain you hear a version from the day: th-cam.com/video/H6244sbhkGY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GratefulDead-Topic
I was so blessed to be at both the Walton Tribute and the Jerry Birthday show. It was simple coincidence*.. I dont know but two of the most special shows of my life. * The 05/30 and 5/31 shows convinced I had to go back later that summer and I just picked the 08/01 to 08/03 shows. Wow.. Long Live the Dead!
That condenses things into what the World truly wants to believe! Both Jabbar and Bill were schooled by Wooden. Both turned into such selfless, amazing individuals.
Bill even made the Egypt trip.... he broke his arm somehow from a fall from over-indulging...but still sat stage side with a big smile on his face.... he even converted the whole boston celtics team to dead heads.. his legend will never die in my house.....
The Grateful Dead, they're my best friends. Their message of hope, peace, love, teamwork, creativity, imagination, celebration, the dance, the vision, the purpose, the passion all of the things I believe in makes me the luckiest Deadhead in the world ~ Bill Walton 🤘🏼🕯️💝
I sat next to Bill on a flight back to San Diego about year and a half ago - it was epic. Spoke with a true icon - he loved the dead , we talked music sports - glad I bumped into this .
i just cried, so good feeling......loved Bill since he was a Bruin, I was a young teen when he played for UCLA.....saw my first Dead show at Winterland, autumn 1978.....the only time I ever cheered against Bill was when he was a Blazer or Celtic playing my Lakers lol.....if you can find it, Bill did a super cool show for ESPN, a few or more episodes (not more than 10) of "Bill Walton What a Long Strange Trip it's Been".....great mix of basketball and GD and Bill........loved this tribute, until the final slide showing his uniform #32, there wasn't any other shot of him playing hoops.....one would never know he was one of the most gifted and talented basketball players to ever walk the planet.....no, the tribute was so "Dead on" (pun intended), just showing Bill the Grateful Dead fan, and the man ;- ) RIP Big Bill, find a court in Heaven and "throw it down big fella" :- )
When learning of Bill passing away. I immediately thought from his interviews, announcing games , bill talking about the G Dead and all of this he always smiled , happy ,full of life having good times talking with zest happiness how the world 🌍 would be better if we had a millions plus people like Bill. My condolences 🙏 To the entire family and his friend. RIP Bill.
Walton is so missed. I always looked forward to him hanging out with our group, for a few minutes during half time of Dead shows in the late 80s to mid 90s.
I remember the match up with Bill and David Thompson in one of the greatest College games I ever witnessed. Big Red lived life to the fullest may your path be lit on your journey.
Remember Bill so much and I miss him, When he played with Larry and the Celtics, making 21 of 22 shots in a NCAA championship game, against Artis Gilmore , I always thought he was the best player, 1977 Trailblazer, those outlet passes and those passes to Dave Twarsdic and Johnny Davis
I am a little young (at nearly 53) to remember Walton’s amazing career but fell in love with the game of basketball around 13 in his later pro career I always enjoyed his commentary. I also loved the way he talked of his college coach the legendary John Wooden. Separately I became a Dead fan in my late teens and early twenties. Almost a week on and I’m still so sad about the news of his passing. Guy just spoke love and putting forward your effort. And he lived it. Should have had a better NBA career but for his feet and eventually back and knees. Absolute one of a kind. Rest in Peace legend.
When dead company first appeared on the scene I wasn't sure how John Mayer was going to fit. Hats off to you John-Boy you really carry the torch and I appreciate that❤
Miss you already Bill Walton, basketball will never be the same for me. Go Bruins!! RIP Bill Walton you were one of a kind and you will be deeply missed
A buddy of mine and I got to meet bill walton last year at oracle park, we were in the vip section but we weren’t supposed to be there, my friend freaked out when he saw him, but bill was so nice about it, he shook our hands and said “cmon you guys know you’re not supposed to be here” with a smile. He was such a humble man, a great touch to the deadhead community. RIP Bill Walton the legend
When I listen to how good Jeff and O'teil and Jay are playing this music (oh, and da Mayer) I know I'm always going to get to see Grateful Dead music played live by people who lived it and knew it about as well as the original members. For the rest of my life hopefully
Beautifully done. I listened to Mickey's version of Fire before knowing it became a staple of The Grateful Dead. I was huge on Mickey and Billy because of their work leading the Rythm Devils.
You captured a soul stirring performance, the people that attended this concert were embraced with waves and waves of joy through images and song; thanks for sharing this, the sound and visuals are spectacular.
I was there and it was so very special. Watching this video made me realize how awesome of a tribute it was. The next night didn’t have the pics, just the 32 at the end.
Nicely done gents. A fine tribute to a upstanding man. So many lessons he offered people. All along being a member of the family, learning just as we all do. Well played.
Sometimes we live no particular way but our own. Major goosebumps, thanks very much for creating and posting this! I was always quite proud to live in the same city as Bill. He was more than a special guy, he was a force of nature in so many positive ways. May the four winds blow you safely home, Bill.
Great work in capturing the Walton Trib, Bill was a great addition to the tribe and he won a championship for the Blazers haha. Thanks for sharing, I was at the shows last weekend and found out from a friend that Bill was gone on my way back home Monday morning. Great Video!! RIP Bill
I ran into Bill, which wasn't hard to do given his size, at the very last Grateful Dead show i attended, Chinese New Year Oct 1993 Oakland. Like us all, a dedicated Head ready to dance the night away. RIP
Bill at UCLA was my childhood hero cuz we both had red hair.. then as i grow up i see he is a fan. One year at Sam Boyd in Vegas, we were in GA and Bill was in front of us. Super hard to see around him, and if it would’ve been anyone else I would’ve moved, but since it was Bill I didn’t care. Closest ever been to an old time hero of mine.
I saw Bill at several shows, but I've never seen Micky do that thing where you use your mouth to make noise into a mic before. This was my favorite song to see them do live. 🤘🧙♂🤘
He used to rap that version back with the Other Ones....I kinda prefer Orteil singing it. John Mayer's early versions with DeadCo were outstanding... But a very nice tribute regardless.
The rap was great. It brought more attention to the poetry of the lyrics and made me want to go and memorize them too, so that I can rap it as well. Who knows what beauty and creativity lies in the words as they stand alone? I suspect that little Billy Walton would’ve loved it as who
RIP Big Red! For those unaware, Mickey's 'rap' of Fire on the Mountain came first (1974) so was in fact the original version. (The Shakedown version of course coming in 1978.) Give a listen here: th-cam.com/video/V0jt-2huWAg/w-d-xo.html
R.I.P. Bill Walton. Anybody know if he ws at the 8/27/72 Dead show near Veneta, Oregon? I know he was in Eugene from time to time. I used to see him in the lunch counter at Scarboro Faire in Eugene. Seemingly, both of us had the same favorite lunch counter.
Bill deserved this and so much more . If only the world had more Bill Waltons 😪
Word
Here Here so very truth my friend so very true
we really need more like him!! Picture a bright blue ball .....
He deserves someone who could actually sing … and here I thought Phil Lesh’s vocals were awful. 💩

Put the drugs down, kid
Dude, What the hell are you talking about?
Does anyone speak acid who can translate this?
Huh?
When Quinn the Eskimo gets here everybody's gonna wanna dose....
If everyone lived their lives like Bill Walton we could have world peace.
He was 7' tall & got paid millions 2get high.

Me too...exactly share your sentiments. Bill Walton was a fountain of smiles and joy in his recent years, and this tribute brought a tear to my eye.
Walton and the Dead
It don't get no better than that!!!
Ok. The jersey number at the end got me. What a beautiful tribute. As Kareem Abdul Jabbar said yesterday, “We lost the best of us.”
Isn't it something that both Jabbar and Bill came from the same ilk, and touched us all?
@@jeffryhammel3035 Jabbar said Walton’s death hit him as hard as the deaths of his parents and Coach Wooden. That’s a true brotherhood.
@@OfficerPolynice Thank you!

I take so much inspiration from Bill Walton and the teachings of John Wooden. "Happiness begins where selfishness ends."
That condenses things into what the World truly wants to believe! Both Jabbar and Bill were schooled by Wooden. Both turned into such selfless, amazing individuals.
Thanks to Dead Co for honoring San Diego's favorite son.
R.I.P. Bill Walton... Grateful to have you in all our lives.
That was lovely.
John Mayer does Jerry proud.

Every single pic Bill is smiling. A cue to enjoy life and not take it so seriously. What a guy.
