this performance turned me into a Phish/Trey fanatic. For years, I'd dismissed Trey as a "bad singer" and I couldn't get with Phish's "goofy lyrics". But for these shows, I laid my past thoughts behind and watched with open eyes, mind, and heart. Early on in the performance, Trey was obviously as enamored with the Dead's music as I had been, and approached this song with such joy, such love, and he flashed this incredible blissful smile. That smile and the joy from which it came, melted my cold stone heart and changed my attitude about him one and for all. And his stellar playing throughout the shows proved to me that he deserved his role in that band on that tour. So I surrendered to the flow..... and have a wonderful new world to explore.... after all these years.
3twenty6 I'm sure when someone heard the Dead for the first time it was the same for me with phish - at least I got to see Jerry once in 92 at the ripe age of 13.

I think the Dead is always going to remain a very special and influential band because their music lets honest musicians explore themselves in a way which recorded music often does not. I am a big Deadhead and I don't have the slightest difficulty imagining Jerry playing what Trey did. Tre is so humbled and reverent to be playing with his heroes. Talk about shoes to fill!He is doing a great job here, excellent tone and melodic ideas abound.
This is A childhood dream. He is getting very emotional. Joy and sadness and probably feeling everything everyone is feeling on top of what he himself is feeling and channelling. First time I heard this amazing song with trey. I swear to the lord above it's was Jerry playing one more time through that guitar into treys fingers and in to my brain forever. Thank you
I can't stop watching this, especially the Scarlet part. It's almost like Trey's bursting with so much joy it's hard for him to play guitar! Felt this happiness and love all weekend!!!
Trey reminds me of a big puppy dog during Scarlet. He looks so genuinely happy to be on stage playing in the band. Best part to me is that look of pure joy around the 5:00 mark where he looks to Bobby to see if he should keep the jam going and gets the 'okay'. His excitement made me tear up a bit.
Bruce's early entry on FOTM is a crime! What a gut-punch it was in person and again on revisiting! Cripes man! Give the song a chance to develop! Trey was about to lay down dirty and play it back clean! Otherwise this clip is immense. What a treat.

There was a huge wave of energy throughout the stadium when Bobby motioned to Trey to go around again and again, and Trey just soared higher and higher each time.
When I see Trey smile on stage like this in recent years, at the same time as it makes me happy and thankful that Trey was able to beat his demons and clean up, it makes me sad that Jerry wasn't able to.
