    One story is: Bertone took this design to their regular customer Lamborghini and, as Lamborghini turned it into the Urraco, they changed it too much for Bertone’s taste, so Bertone then pitched it to Ferrari who felt that it was time to replace the 246 and implemented it as is. Both the Urraco and 308GT4 are lovely designs.

    When only electric cars can be bought new, and the only way to get something to enjoy is to get a used car, this Espada will be unattainable....

    • @justins21482
      @justins21482 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Buy your classic now then. As soon as possible. Personally im really excited for the electric revolution just to say we are officially in the future assuming that having flat-screen and tvs pretty much everywhere. Classic gas powered cars won't likely ever go away. Even a 100 yrs from now someone will have in their possession a gas powered car from waaay back in the day and who knows if they can drive it on public roads, im sure there will be ways to enjoy your things

    • @justins21482
      @justins21482 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although to be fair, in 100 yrs l, virtual reality and computer tech will be so ridiculously good that you could peob drive any car yoy wanted with full fidelity with sights smells noises and feelings accurate. So there will be no reason for actual experiences in the far future. When an "actual" experience can be had in digital form. Pretty interesting to ponder.

    • @blueridgegarage
      @blueridgegarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justins21482 I'm more concerned with buying fuel in the future. All these "green plans" are to limit oil extraction and processing. With electric revolution we will not need petrol based products. I know Porsche is trying to create a safe 0 or near 0 emissions fuel for all the cars- they are into preserving the history. Hopefully they team with Mobil and we can still drive our ICE classic in the future.
      I'm not opposing the electrification, but I'm 100% against speeding up the process, since that would imply artificially increasing gasoline prices to force everyone to buy new electric cars. That along with stricter emissions, to where we cannot register the classics- California is one state where by 2030 the emissions are supposed to be that strict that no cars older than late 2000's could stay registered. Hope not, but my hope isn't part of that "green new deal".
      Then I have my personal confusion in which classics do I want to own... and how many do I want to own....
      Dillemas....

  • @stuffhappens5681
    @stuffhappens5681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There are definitely shadows of the Lancia Stratos in the Ferrari 308 GT/4. I’m old enough to remember when the Lamborghini lineup was the Miura, Jarama, Espada, and Uracco. The Countach redefined Lamborghini similar to how the 911 defined Porsche. It’s fine but also pigeonholes them into sort of a typecast they can never break out of.

    Love both cars, especially the 308 GT4. The early ones are quite lightweight, and with the Euro-spec dry sump engine can be great to drive. LOVE the original period green and blue color combo of the Espada.

    • @timgosling6189
      @timgosling6189 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None of the gt4s were dry sump, just European and UK carb GTBs. Also, all gt4s for a given market weighed the same throughout their production, but US cars were heavier due to the massive federalised extended bumper mounts. There is no difference in performance between wet and dry sumped engines. Despite the wet sump the 308 gt4 is great on track and many are still raced in classic series. The sump is heavily baffled and designed not to suffer from oil starvation in cornering or acceleration.

    Since Lamborghini came out with their 350 GT in 1963 I've loved Bertone designed cars and had the pleasure of owning one back in 1968.
    The only Bertone designed Ferrari was the 308 GT4 but I understand it was originally designed by Bertone as a baby Lamborghini Urraco (which was not approved by Lamborghini) and the design was subsequently sold to Ferrari as their baby Dino 308 GT4. Lovely car! but so was the Bertone designed Urraco that would eventually be excepted by Lamborghini. I would love to own ether one of them, or both?
    You can see the similarities between the 1968 Bertone designed Espada and the 1967 Lamborghini Marsal, Which i believe Prince Rainier turned up in at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix. what a absolutely Gorgeous car!

    As a youngster going to school in Chelsea right by the famous Kings Rd. I will never forget coming out of school & while walking past Peter Jones (big store) a lot of schoolgirls were crowding round an espada and screaming with excitement because they saw Rod Stewart jumping out, locking it & going into the store.... I waited, like the masses for him to come out & he understandably kicked off because someone scratched 'I love you Rod' on the side 🤪 yes, the crowd of school kids disappeared fast and he angrily roared off. Old bloke memories ;) Magnus always does a great video except for saying Renault Scimitar 🤫

    People who track Ferraris say the 308 GT/4 offers better handling than a 308 GTB due to its near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution. GT/4s have the same, or more horsepower than a standard 308 due to no smog equipment and aggressive cam timing. Oh, and it has back-seats and a trunk....

    Lamborghini Espada FTW! Unlike most car guys of my generation, I've always secretly loved the Espada. Look at it, it's a family car that's a Lamborghini! Imagine all the activities.

    Hi Magnus. I share you're Philosophie about cars and love The next big thing. Me, myself was infected with the petrolheads buzz at early age, my dad drove some off those type of cars. I for instance love the Espada much more then any other Lamborghini, maybe besides the LM200. My private car is a Daimler Double Six (the equivalent of the Jaguar XJ 12) Though for everyday trips i own an Alfa Romeo Stelvio

    308 GT4 is a DINO and the best driving “Ferrari” of that time period. It’s because this car is 90% Lancia and 10% Dino/Ferrari. Bertone was the preferred design house for Lancia and that’s why it was used.

    Being 65 years-old Lamborghini to me will always be Miura, Jarama, Espada with a Uracco thrown in for good measure. The Countach/Jalpa days came later. Although I loved the Countach in its original periscopio form, I never warmed to the gee-whiz body kit and giant wing that came later. No disrespect to Horacio Pagani his Zonda and Huayra are great but I really dislike what he did with the anniversary Countach. I’m kinda over the scissor door thing too. The early cars might be flawed in various ways but they embody the aesthetic of the Italian spirit in a way that the later cars cannot match.

    Apparently GT4 is much better to drive than the GTB/GTS but I don't know if I could get over those looks. Espada is my fav Lamborghini, actually the only one that I lust over they're beautiful, so elegant, if I had the money for a classic cruiser it'd be hard to choose between Lamborghini Espada and Citroen SM
