Are The Iconic Arcade Machines Worth Buying?

- With this year being pretty stagnant when it comes to new home arcade releases, I've been looking at some of the other brands that are popping up and checking out their units, and one in particular that's been discussed is Iconic Arcade. These are Raspberry Pi4 powered multi-cades that are aimed at the consumer market in giving people an all-in-one solution for their home arcade space, but is this device worth the price tag, and does it stack up to some of the other home arcade offerings that are on the market?
Nice informative video.. and you speak well and get the bullet points as well as being able to articulate👍
Good stuff.
Thank you for watching and I appreciate the kind words!
Solid review brother, I was playing around with one of these at the mall last week and I was on the fence about buying one. I’ll probably pass now but your review was informative so thank you 👊🏼
Appreciate the kind words! Yeah, it’s not for everyone, and if you already have a multicade it’s probably not going to do much for you
Excellent video summary 👍 Like others I grabbed the console at $50 the other day and it finally arrived. I just got Batocera loaded today and am looking forward to exploring it further. Your compliments and criticisms seem spot on. Thanks for the video and excellent game room too 🎮
Let me know how it goes and what you think of it!
For the price point this thing is great, just has some minor hurdles before you can really enjoy it.
Thank you for the kind words!
I bought the Iconic Arcade control panel for $50 new from GameStop and like you I spent 4 hours on setup and installing before I was actually enjoying it. Good value for a CDN multicade and I like that Batocera gets updated via WiFi
Yeah, once you get through that hurdle, it’s a fun machine, I’m still finding new games and adding them on for different consoles I played growing up
Thanks for the review. I bought the stand alone iconic arcade console when it was on the one day sale from GameStop for $50!!! Great deal. It hasn’t arrived yet, puralator just says item delayed. lol . Hopefully mine will arrive soon
Yeah, that’s even better value at $50 for the stand itself!
@ I couldn’t resist for $50. A Pi4 costs about $30-$35 so I’m getting the joystick, buttons and a case for like $15
Yeah I really hope this doesn’t mean they’re bowing out of North America completely with these price drops, but time will tell
Any chance you could do a video on how to add games to it as im having difficulty with it. Great video by the way | agree with your comments on it.
Hey Sean, I was considering putting a video like that together but if you go onto the Iconic Arcade TH-cam page they have a how-to on this very topic that should be quite helpful!
At that price i could not resist. The only thing i need to add bat tops for the joystick like you did.
Yeah, for the price it’s very appealing.
I've just purchased 1 of the newer models for my teenage son, im definitely not tech savvy and was able to build and set up, i started with batacera then switched to recallbox as there's more games available, i was able to connect to my wifi no problem, the mist difficult task was calibrating the controllers, i watched the few videos available on youtube to help me, ive seen 1 youtuber buying a preloaded sim and getting a load more games, im based in the UK and it cost me £350 so you are definitely getting a bargain 😊, my only complain is i haven't worked out how to leave a game and go back to the menu, thanks for posting the video 👍
So on Batocera I know if you press start and select at the same time it exits the game for you, and most games if you hold select and B you get options in game and can create save states, etc
@Mrlostmoniker yeah it worked on batacera but not on recalbox, I'll figure it out when my son starts putting more games on, I don't have a clue about roms etc that's why I was surprised i was able to set it up, I haven't played arcades since pacman and space invaders 😂Im reliving my youth with this arcade, love it, thanks for replying mate 👍
You will need to find a adapter that converts your 8way joystick to 4 way. Most mame vertical games are 4 way. Some games like donkey kong and pacman feel unplayable with a 8 way joystick
@@garmanutube thanks, you can add a lot off different controllers in the settings, I had to calibrate the player 1 and player 2 controllers to get started
Pretty sure it can be upgraded to a Pi 5 since they have the same form factor :)
Yeah I was reading on the Iconic Arcade fan page people have done that, it might be something worth considering down the road
@@Mrlostmoniker Not to mention, since that inside the controller, the inputs are connected via USB to the Raspberry Pi, you could also build a PC inside the case and literally build a gaming PC in there. I'm considering doing this
@ that’s a great idea, if you do it let me know how it goes!
You have plans to add vinyl skin and lit marquee?
I thought about it, but honestly, I’ll probably leave it as is, it looks not pretty but then my arcade is so varied it kinda fits in
@Mrlostmoniker it's only my dislike in terms of styling. I will definitely add a light up marquee.
Yeah, the new version they have looks much more appealing, but I still don’t think they’ve added a light up marquee
@Mrlostmoniker no vegas marquee for sure. It's IA leaving it up to us to mod them. I'm hoping community starts to grow as more people buy the cabs.
@ yeah, for a multicade I love the idea, if Iconic irons out a couple things for the general consumer I could see these being a big hit
Do you have an atgames legends ultimate?I highly recommend it
No I do not, I mostly purchased this one over any other mutlicade style machine for the price point
@ Atgames you can find for $500 or less and it has hdmi in so you can hook up just about anything to it
@@mikelucas3272yeah, they’re good looking machines but with the no HST in Canada I got this for $300, no tax, which made this very appealing.
@@Mrlostmoniker $300? I though it was $700.At $300 that would be amazing
@ yeah, it’s actually on for $250 now in Canada
🤔interesting👍🏻👍🏻👊
For the price, it’s a good machine
Good video
Thank you!
Hello 😊 would you know why I'm getting "firmware not found " on setup?
Unfortunately I’m not sure, did you plug both the USB that came with it and the SD card that came with it in when booting up? If you’re still having issues I’d reach out to Iconic
You need to setup an account.with IA once the cad starts up your account finishes the setup.
I would say if you can get some good ass good games from the past go for it baby cuz otherwise who knows what's going to happen with those bad boys. One thing I would like you to see the beginning would be a cool ass game from the past that arm wrestling game I don't know if you've ever seen it but it actually has an arm and you wrestle it. From what I remembered it was probably only catered to people with right hands, but I might be mistaken.
Well for sure these are on clearance with all the price drops, but it seems like the brand is going to continue on if you look at their website.
I wouldn't have a clue how to do any of that. I'm old i just want to play a game.
Yeah and that’s perfectly acceptable, if that’s the case I recommend looking into an Arcade1up with the types of games you’re into, or looking at the new Evercade countertop arcade which allows you the option to buy swappable cartridges
What are your thoughts on this machine?
$250 in my area.
Yeah I saw recently it dropped even lower which is a steal for a multi cade!
@@Mrlostmoniker I basically have no choice but to buy it at this point. 😁
@ that’s how I felt at $300! So $250 is more than a steal!
Hello i just buy this arcade and i dont have any idea that it will be like this not plug and play. Can you give idea where to download some games roms? Thank you so much
Hey it depends what Roms you’re looking for, if you Google the system and roms you should be able to find it very easily
needs vertical monitor
Depends what era of gaming you want I guess
I dint like the artwork at all and the controls were not great in my opinion.
Yeah, the artwork on this current iteration of their cabs is not great at all, but it looks like they’re coming out with a revised skin that looks a lot better than this
You like arcade 1up
Junk lol 😂
Yes I do. They ushered in an era of home arcades that were accessible to the common person
Yes, thumbing your nose at people who have limited funds. Your a man of class I see.
It's cheap and suspect in quality. Are you foolish enough to think a sub 300$ arcade cab will be high quality like your 1500-3000$ cabs you have in your moms basement?
@ lol 😂 I gave all my arcade 1ups away for free, I even gave one to your mama loser !!!
Next time hook my mom up, she’d love a 1up
Several Arcade1ups with unique controls like Tron, Ridge Racer, Centipede, Star Wars, and Outrun, to name a few, are close enough to the real deal. They cost much less than the actual full sized cabinets. They have a fairly solid build quality. They also have thicker panels than the Iconic Arcade. They are lightweight to move around and easy to repair. The XL version of their Pac-man gets even closer to the real deal. There's not much to criticize there considering the price.
No.
Oh yeah?
