Ive been coaching elementary track and use the feed the cats program. I am there PE coach as well and mix the system into my classes . This allows me to evaluate and start putting my teams together. As for marks I use a certain blue color tape. We go over this and over this detail in practice. I use 2 pieces of tape creating what we call a window of success.. They can tell me if asked , "leaving before the window is WAY to early. leaving in the window is perfect,. Leaving after the window is a wreck and to close". We use the bang step but call it smash like smashing straight down to a bug. Little verbal ques is a must for 3rd -5th grade kids. In my district we have 14 elementaries and have really sprinted well winning the 4x1 multiple years. We even pre race RPR. County and city teams look at us weird but thats ok . We have bought in and kids see the results. And yes, doing things right matters. We run (rt left rt left) and always have. it seems bush league to me and not teaching the sport correctly while passing the baton. What a fun sport and rewarding to watch.. I coached football for more than 30 years. And I actually stepped away concentrating on my track kids. We are becoming a track club in a small rural town in fresno County . Which is in the Central San Joaquin Valley. Its a Very poor community but we coach em up hard and positive with no excuses ..RELAX RUN RELAY!! Thank You Both
Since they changed the exchange zone from 20 to 30m, almost every new track (or resurfaced track) has only triangles at the end of the 30m zone (or the 30m is just painted a different color with no triangles). So what do you typically do there? .... as far as that WAS the target for the out-going runner to put their hand back at the 1st big triangle (doesn't exist now at some meets) .... non-verbal cue. I guess you could put tape there, but measure from where, and how
Quinn, I coach in Michigan. It looks like you are allowed to place 1/2 tennis balls on the track for relays in Illinois. Do you know if that is legal in other states?
A lot of officials I've talked to say it is up to the venue host for tennis ball use. Some deem it dangerous as a potential tripping hazard. Pennsylvania.
Following this method we went from 46.4 to 44.45 and dropping thanks for the video coach

Perfectly built tutorial. Of course you're a teacher! Any chance this slide show is available that I could use it with my Middle schoolers?
I understand the inside outside. So after the handoff happens. They should switch the baton to the right hand for the next handoff?
helping the algorithm
