Thank you, Natasa. Lovely creation! Two things make your videos particularly helpful. First, you provide a written plan so viewers know what you intend to accomplish in that lesson; we don't have to guess or wonder. Second, you share your thinking out loud as you decide your design, select your materials, pick colors, etc. This greatly helps viewers understand your process, why you are doing what you are doing. That is EXCELLENT teaching! It helps to optimize viewers' learning. Thanks for taking us on this explorative, creative journey with you! 💌 Cheryl in AZ
Hi Natasa, thank you for this rules to collage. I really appreciate them. By the way: you are the tutorial queen. Yours are short, you telling everything, the print screen opportunity and your voice is so calming and that's all what it need. xx Manuela
Thank you for showing collage as design, rather than the random gluing that I've seen on so many other video. They both have their purpose, but I had pretty much given up on collage because I struggle with randomness. As an aside: Rule of thirds is a guideline for any kind of layout - photographs (as @EmmKaa mentions), magazine pages, collages. It's really a simplified, much easier to follow version of the Fibonacci sequence, which can be depicted as a spiral that starts small in the middle and increases as it goes around. The shell of a chambered nautilus is a perfect example. Very, very few people need to dive down to that level of detail in their layouts, but I've found it helps me to picture that spiral when trying to figure out how to place items around the focal point. One reason your collage works so well is that it follows the spiral very effectively. If you use the girl's face as the starting point, swirling up and to the right will take you through the boy's face and to the right edge of the page. Keep going and you hit the inner then outer circles of the doily, then the butterfly (where the angle of your snippet is a perfect match for the imaginary curve), up to the top of your background piece and off the page. The sentiment is the only major design element that doesn't fall on one of those imaginary curves. However, it sits quite nicely in the space between the lines and would have gotten lost on the book page, so I think you made a good call. Because, after all, thirds and spirals are just guidelines. : )
One of the first things I learned in photography class was the rule of thirds. The next thing I learned was to throw them out the window. Not entirely really, but to remember that art is an extension of me, and I am far from perfect 🤔😲🤫 😋. I finally got the guts to do a piece that was going to be in a permanent place once it was finished, and maybe 2/3 of the way through I realized that I hated it! 😰. So I walked away crying 😭 and remembered that I had no focal point! For as planned out as the piece was, everything moved to the background once I added it (literally and figuratively), and everything looked great. Even the background popped, and the whole family loved it (and trust me, they're not afraid to let me know if something is, a-hem, "not my best work"). Just jump in with what another one of my other instructors calls "reckless abandon" and go for it. Know the rules and don't be afraid to break them. Art is an extension of you and you are beautiful! With love from the Southern California desert, MK. 🤗♥️🌵🏜️
Natasha I'm so new at this and I have listened to alot of crafters, but, you, my dear are the best when it comes to journals and tutorials. Thank you for all you do. ❤
Hi Natasa: I get the distinct impression that you're sharing your stellar tutorials as a way to keep us all busy and thinking of something other than the the current situation we all find ourselves in. Just wanted to let you know how much you're appreciated :-)
oh wow... beautiful, the explanation and the rules are soooo helpful, it makes a lot of sense, now. your tutorials are incredibly helpful, i'll have to watch them all! 🥰
You are such a good teacher of art and design. Thank you for the detailed notes, they are extremely helpful and encouraging for a beginner. Stay well and healthy.
Thank you for sharing this collage video. I struggle trying to do these without stressing out. When you put it into steps and show the design reasoning, it makes sense and more fun too!👍🙂
I love your tutorials. I shared this video with my daughter-in-law to share with my granddaughters because I think your humility and teachable attitude are excellent examples for them to follow. I like the way you show the process you went through and how you dove in even though you weren't entirely confident you were doing it correctly. Thanks!
You are a very good teacher. I’m a retired teacher and like to study other teaching techniques, regardless of the topic. Thank you for your careful presentations.
College has always baffled me. I have tried but it always looks like I have just thrown odd pieces of paper at a page. This was very helpful and I may try again. Thank you for sharing the video. I always enjoy your tutorials you have a lovely way of imparting knowledge 🥰
Collage is difficult. I really struggle. Thanks for sharing. You are so generous with your time and you are a great teacher. I love that you use simple supplies so I am not tempted to buy more.
Well done! I enjoy using a script stamp on the initial layer, you never know where it will end up showing but I think it adds interest. Take care, hugs and blessings,🤗❤️
This page is lovely. You explain the rule of thirds guidelines very well for beginners and a refreshing course for those of us who have been around awhile.. very well done. Look forward to next. 💕
I haven't done any collaging 'yet', but so enjoy your videos for use in other areas that I create … art envelopes and fabric postcards. Your techniques work there too. And LOVE love LOVE that you have a written page to the right to follow along. thank YOU
Nicely done! This turned out very well. I’m certainly no expert or pro! One suggestion to think about in future, of course you could take it or leave it...you could do some distressing around the edge of the picture like roughing up the edges, a couple of little tears or folds,or, placing some of the smaller bits that are under the photo, over the edges of the photo instead. The page itself has very rough, rustic edges. The doily could have been torn as well, so it wasn’t perfectly round. Funny because I kept thinking, put the stitched paper under the butterfly, and then you did it! 😊 It’s a really great page!
Yes of course, please, I am open to suggestions, thank you. These are some wonderful tips you have given me, and all I kept thinking was "well why didn't I think of that!!!"
Thank you for this. I think not wanting to ruin the project by adding something at the end is the lament of many a crafter!!!!! I know they say 'it's only paper' but after all your decisioning you just want it to look right or at least pleasing. Love your tutorials.
What a difference the rule of thirds makes! This was an excellent subject and tutorial. Thank you so much for taking the time to give a precise demonstration. Have a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing week!
Brilliant tutorial, love having the design concept to follow. It really helps as a jumping off point to actually try things, and you are so humble in reflecting on your work. Thank you so much.
Nice dirty little collage. Your artistic brain is amazing. Thank you for telling about thirds. I'm not happy about you getting overwhelmed with choices, I'm just relieved it's not only me.
Lovely and timely. I have also been playing around with collaging, so now I can use your notes and try again. I love the way yours turned out and I know that my next one will be better than my previous attempts because of you. Again, you are helping me to become more creative each time I watch one of your videos, so thank you.. take care
Natasha! Beautiful 🥰 Tfs 😘 love your creativity and I really am inspired to start my first Junk journal. I'm just feeling overwhelmed. Gorgeous, excited for You and your channel 😘
A nice little tutorial! Love the way your picture turned out. It's nice to have starting points when you know you can branch out if need be. Thanks for sharing.
While I am not an expert, collage is one of my favorite art techniques. I’ve loved collage since I was a child! While researching others is helpful, each artist needs to find her own way, which is usually through much practice and experimenting. Again, I think of the rules more of guidelines, and create what looks good to me. You mentioned near the end that you may have moved the focal point to the left. Funny, I kept saying that to myself, as well. I think with continued practice you will enjoy your collages even more!
Thank you so much Elaine. I totally agree with everything you said. What I found difficult is knowing how to start, and what does actually look good. Things that I thought look good a month ago, no longer look good now that I've done a little bit of collage reading. But I also got so many amazing pointers in the comments on how I could improve the collage. I think guidelines help the complete novice, and like you say, practice and experimenting will take us further. Thank you for watching Elaine :)
I did not know there were guidelines. Thanks for this tutorial! I am going try this out! You get top marks in all that you do! TFS. I did. God bless and stay safe!
I found this very helpful and I think practice is the key. I love this collage just the way it is. Well done! Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay well. 😘😘
I have learned so much from you! Thank you! As for collages, I prefer to use balance. I think you mostly had it on your second collage, but like you said, there was an empty space on top of the paper lace ( I cannot think how to spell it!) I liked your first collage, though. I felt it had more balance and in it's own way followed your rules. Anyway, i sincerely enjoy your work and again, thank you.
Thank you, Natasa. Photography is another hobby of mine where I do use the Rule of Thirds but never thought about using it for a page layout. As always, I appreciate you.
Thank you for sharing this rule. I struggle with collage also. Now I can figure out why some of mine work and others don’t. So grateful for you style of teaching. I love the step-by-steps process and your written notes especially since my art skills are at best third grade!
I love collaging and will undertake the next one with much more confidence, keeping the rule of thirds in mind. Thanx for sharing your tips and tricks with us. I love your collage.
I like the Rule of Thirds to help me with placement whether I'm making journals, making a card or even scrapbooking. My eyes like this process, and it's helpful for me. Thank you for sharing.
I think you did a nice job. I leaned toward less white showing but yours looked good. Mine will obviously be different but this helps me to learn better how to do the collage page! Again thanks! I love following your tutorials!
I’m a collage enthusiast. Cutting and pasting has been my life since the lockdown. You are such a good teacher. I love your videos. I can keep watching them for hours. Because of you and your videos I’m going to make a junk journal... and I’ll have several collage pages in it :) And I’m so glad that you are in Melbourne. I’m in Melbourne too,
Kusum P hey have you watched Johanna Clough or The Paper Outpost videos about junk journals? They’re vastly different but both were so important to me when I was making my first junk journal (Johanna esp has a great tutorial) - 100% recommend you watching at least a few of their videos each before you make up your mind though ☺️👍🏻
Adding a bit of phone book page to a collage?! I've never thought of or seen that before! :) Cool idea. I haven't done many collages to be honest, but that's another element I'll incorporate from now on. I've got plenty of phone books.
Thank you so much for this video. You posted it just in time. I have been struggling with collage. This is wonderful, I like that you have instructions sheets. I will be learning along with you. I love collage, but I don't have a knack for it. This rule of 3rds makes sense and really helped me to think about collage differently.
Thank you for sharing - it's the first time I've ever seen any rules applied to collaging and I love having the guide - I think it will make it much easier when I have that blank page in front of me with no idea where to begin. :)
I liked this video very very much (again *hehe*) and I liked the collage very much. You're right, there is a very big difference between the two collages you showed. I didn't use any technique for collaging, yet, and I wanna follow my heart as I did in the past, but sometimes it's helpful to have a bit of a technique in the back of your brain and thinking process. So thanks for this amazing video again!
I absolutely love collage (and its stuck up sister decoupage!) Thank you so much for the written description on the screen- I wish more people did the same (of course, that's easy for me to say since I'm here to learn (for free) from the amazing TH-cam crafters. You definitely just got a new subscriber! BTW- it came out fantabulous!!
Love all your collage ideas and I am hooked on it. I made one of those journals and was heaps of fun. I usually don't plan and do my own thing too :) Thanks for the inspiration xx
Great to see a different prospective on this process it really resonated with me. Then taking a photo to check placement, genius!! Keep safe, healthy and Craftin!!🦋💜🐞💙🕉️🌻🧡🦚
Looks Fab! I wondered how the phone book page would look....I’ve been cleaning out some stuff and found a few old phone books and thought about it. Maybe I’ll keep them after all 🙂TYFS ❤️
Love it, gurl you need to give yourself more credit you did such a great collage project def one of the best videos about collage project, and learn some hacks that one can do for their project * goosebumps* 👏 two words love it . Thank you so much for entertaining, teaching and giving us ideas that we can apply for our little projects.
Great job, Natasa! I like both the little bit of negative space and the amount of doily visible. Also like the aged page edges. Thank you for sharing the theory. 💖
wow Natasa using the phone book. You are so resourceful love how much you think outside the box!!! I admire you and your style if you haven't already guessed lol 😍🥰 stay safe and well xxx

Wow thank you so much Cheryl!! I just do the things that I myself would appreciate when watching the video 😊
Treasure Books plus you fast forward through all the “tedious” stuff like inking and gluing. Your editing is SUPERB!!
Hi Natasa, thank you for this rules to collage. I really appreciate them. By the way: you are the tutorial queen. Yours are short, you telling everything, the print screen opportunity and your voice is so calming and that's all what it need. xx Manuela
Aw thank you so much Manuela!!
I totaly agree with this comment !
Thankyou once again for a helpful tutorial, your layout / factual sheets are such a help...you are a star😊
“Not everything needs to be inked” yes it is hard to resist the temptation! Love your videos. I always learn something new. Thank you!

Lani Wright thanks so much! The spiral image makes so much more sense to me. Thanks for sharing.
Wow!!!!! I wish I knew that before filming so that I can include it in my video!! I love how you explained it. It makes SO much sense!! Thank you!!

I love this so much!!!! Thank you
When it comes to art, rules make me feel defeated before I even start. I prefer going by instinct.....that’s when I am most happy!!
Natasha I'm so new at this and I have listened to alot of crafters, but, you, my dear are the best when it comes to journals and tutorials. Thank you for all you do. ❤
Natasha, I don't think you were ever doing 3rd grade work! You are WAY to talented! I love all your work. 😊
Heheh thank you :) Funnily enough, I never actually did grade 3, it was interrupted by the war in my home country :)
This is so helpful! Thank you for searching out a better way to collage and then sharing it with us!
Hi Natasa: I get the distinct impression that you're sharing your stellar tutorials as a way to keep us all busy and thinking of something other than the the current situation we all find ourselves in. Just wanted to let you know how much you're appreciated :-)
Thank you so much!! Hehe that was my intention precisely.
Oh yes. You can definitely see the difference between today’s page and the earlier one. Once again, thank you.
Thank you!
oh wow... beautiful, the explanation and the rules are soooo helpful, it makes a lot of sense, now. your tutorials are incredibly helpful, i'll have to watch them all! 🥰
I love your tutorials Natasha, you make me giggle as well as give such lovely clear instructions. Love your work!
Thank you so much!
No third grader teacher would attempt this!!! Glue and three crayons were her limit. I luv that you break rules and give us written instructions!!!
Thank you so much Betty!!
You are such a good teacher of art and design. Thank you for the detailed notes, they are extremely helpful and encouraging for a beginner. Stay well and healthy.
Thank you so much Robben, you too!!

Thank you for this. I think not wanting to ruin the project by adding something at the end is the lament of many a crafter!!!!! I know they say 'it's only paper' but after all your decisioning you just want it to look right or at least pleasing. Love your tutorials.
Hehe thank you! I was so unsure of myself, and then liked the end product, I was afraid I'd ruin it :)
What a difference the rule of thirds makes! This was an excellent subject and tutorial. Thank you so much for taking the time to give a precise demonstration. Have a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing week!
Thank you so much Sheryl! i’ glad you like it 😊

Thanks for sharing! I just learned something new from collages. Hvala ljepo!
I did not know there were guidelines. Thanks for this tutorial! I am going try this out! You get top marks in all that you do! TFS. I did. God bless and stay safe!
There are many different guidelines I guess. It can help beginners, but then instinct takes over and guidelines mean nothing :)))
I found this very helpful and I think practice is the key. I love this collage just the way it is. Well done! Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay well. 😘😘
Thank you Melody!
I always enjoy all your projects thank you for posting.
Thank you so much Gena 🙏🙏
I have learned so much from you! Thank you! As for collages, I prefer to use balance. I think you mostly had it on your second collage, but like you said, there was an empty space on top of the paper lace ( I cannot think how to spell it!) I liked your first collage, though. I felt it had more balance and in it's own way followed your rules. Anyway, i sincerely enjoy your work and again, thank you.
Thankyou for sharing the rule I would love to try this as it looks beautiful tfs I love how you always write it down so we can copy an screenshot
Thank you 😊
Thank you, Natasa. Photography is another hobby of mine where I do use the Rule of Thirds but never thought about using it for a page layout. As always, I appreciate you.
Thank you so much Becci 😊
Thanks for sharing your process!

Thank you Paula
Wonderful explanation of collage. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you :)
I like the Rule of Thirds to help me with placement whether I'm making journals, making a card or even scrapbooking. My eyes like this process, and it's helpful for me. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Joyce!
I loved this Natasa!! It would be great to do a collage video every so often to show how your style develops. ❤❤
Great idea!! Thank you :)
I think you did a nice job. I leaned toward less white showing but yours looked good. Mine will obviously be different but this helps me to learn better how to do the collage page! Again thanks! I love following your tutorials!

A work of art.
Adding a bit of phone book page to a collage?! I've never thought of or seen that before! :) Cool idea.
I haven't done many collages to be honest, but that's another element I'll incorporate from now on. I've got plenty of phone books.
Its so good to use in collage, because its got a nice muted colour, and its very thin 😊
Thank you so much for this video. You posted it just in time. I have been struggling with collage. This is wonderful, I like that you have instructions sheets. I will be learning along with you. Thank you for sharing 🌻 your research helps to understand!
I think you did a great job! Very pleasing to the eye.
Thank you so much Kathryn!
Love the page! Thank you for the research and doing this page!
This is a really gorgeous page!
It looks great. Loving your videos. Tfs cheers
