    Lovely work! Thanks for the tips! I've started exploring the art of collage and am still learning. I still struggle with composition and finding pleasing arrangements of the elements and colors.

    Great video with lots of good advice. I live in Australia where weather can be very humid and silverfish are a huge problem. Silverfish LOVE cellulose, so I tend not use wallpaper paste in the making of my books.
    You will know if your home harbours them if you find spines of books have mysteriously come adrift, or dust covers and pages appear to be torn - all have been victim to those tiny creatures nibbling away in darkened areas.

      thanks for your reply. Heard about that silverfish love wallpaper. fortunarely we don‘t have that problem here. But will point this out in further videos. Thanks!

    I’m a collage artist too. On my channel I go over how to get started with just an acid-free glue stick, free magazines, & scissors. ✂️
    For the beginners out there don’t get overwhelmed by all the types of materials you could use, you probably have most of what you need to get started. Keep it simple & have fun exploring. ❤🎨

    Pleased u r doing this. I looked at your work a long while ago and was impressed and especially with how you lay out your design and link together your papers. I have painted for a while and have lately embarked on collage. I decided to do 365 collages this year! So your idea of small is perfect! I am ahead of the game with 15 at the moment. I am experiencing a lot of problems with wrinkles so please could you deal with this in your vids? I use a credit card matte medium liquitex. My materials range from lens tissue through to heavyish paper. Since i have painted on some of the finer stuff some of it is wrinkled even before i start. Is life too short to worry over much about wrinkles or does a true collager never have them!? Best R

    • @LydiaRinkArt
      @LydiaRinkArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for your comment.
      365 collages is a great thing to do. I did this years ago and learnt a lot about material, composition and color.
      I would try another adhesive to see if this avoids wrinkling or creates less wrinkles.
      I don‘t like it when magazine paper wrinkles but really like the wrinkle that tissue paper creates 😁
      Over time you‘ll find the materials you like. Try out as much as you can!
      Over the next few weeks I will share some more info about collage 😉

    Great video! I've always wanted to try collage, but one thing has kept me from pursuing it -- the fact that magazine print photos are not colorfast. They were never intended to be exposed to light for long periods of time. I suspect they'll probably fade very quickly if exposed to light in an artwork that's wall mounted. What are your thoughts about this issue and how can I get around it?

      As I use a lot of matte gel medium the pieces are covered in a kind of plastic layer when it's dry. So I don't worry about the acid in vintage paper.

    Just a heads up.. please, before you start tearing into old books and "vintage" thing verify what you have... make sure it isn't rare or one of a kind. Thanks (speaking as a Librarian and Archivist). Remember you can make color photo copies and photo copies of all these things.. Much of this old antique letters and books and even magazines are becoming rarer and rarer to find.... Just do a bit of research and again.. you can always make color photo copies for just a few cents!

    Your collage art tips are enjoyed and much appreciated. When using CMC or wallpaper paste for collage glue, what ratio of water-to-powder do you use? Thanks!

    • @LydiaRinkArt
      @LydiaRinkArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you ❤ I don‘t have a special ratio of water-to-powder. I add powder to the water till I get the right consistency. Over time you get a feeling how much you powder you need 😉

    • @canbe842
      @canbe842 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the reply. I've read where others have found the CMC powder stirring process a bit timely and tedious. I agree. It initially took me about 15 minutes for the powder to fully blend. Then I had an idea . . . on the second batch I used my kitchen immersion blender and it was a breeze - 30 seconds and done. I left the gel sit out overnight so the immersion process air bubbles would dissipate. Very easy and the result was a perfectly clear and blended CMC gel paste. I also found that a ration of 1 TBS of CMC to 1 cup of water was the right consistency for my papers. FYI: I purchased LINECO 'Pure Methyl Cellulose' (Amazon). Hope this helps.

    I am sorry but I don't understand -this is supposed to be for beginners but when you take about glues, (ZMZ?? what is that?) you use technical terms I don't understand, I think there is an assumption of knowledge I don't know. I need to find a place to learn about collages from the kindergarden basics and beyond. This is already beyond ;-). I don't know what you mean by cards or mixed media paper, etc. I'm so frustrated.

      thank you@@LydiaRinkArt, I just looked that inspiration course and it is beyond my financial capacity right now, especially with needing to buy art supplies. I am not an artist at all. There is also a group "exploring collage" but that is closed. The Inspriration sounds interesting even though I''ve never made a thing. I recently have experience a lot of sudden loss (of human beings who were friends) and I always look at Facebook Collages, but their are technically advanced.
