OK, I do appreciate this post first and foremost and thank you for doing this for us. That being said, it's $40 bro, none of us buying this grinder has the super espresso makers you mentioned so I would take my pinky down a notch and compare it to other grinders at around this price point. and the most useful thing you said in this video is that it's better than pre pre-bought packed espresso blend from the store. I was about to return it until you said that. otherwise, I thought it would mess up my Mr. Coffee barista I just bought for $200.
Thanks for the in-depth explainer! I just received this machine for Christmas 2023 and use it to grind coffee for my 12 year-old Breville Cafe Roma espresso machine (incredible value for money btw). The grinder's finest espresso setting is just about fine enough but there is some kind of issue where the grind setting dial rotates counter-clockwise toward a coarser setting as the machine is running. Have you or anyone else here experienced that? The Shardor customer service number seems to be out of commission as does their website :(
I have the Hamilton Beach version. Same machine. I use it on on the finest expresso grind and it works well. Not too loud or staticy. I wasn't sure how to remove the burr for cleaning which is what I watched the video for. I can see that it needs a a fair amount of twisting force. I didn't want to break mine it but I can see in the video that it does. Thanks.
I also have the Hamilton Beach version and still can't figure out how to get the burr off...when I twist it to the Unlock position it also moves the wheel on the side to espresso..? When I twist it the other way towards Lock, it moves the wheel on the side to extreme, French Press...is this what yours does?? I can't get the burr off and am afraid to break it...
If you want something for espresso then get a Comandante, for day to day use this one is more than enough, I use it for my Chemex and Moka Pot, no issues at all
Do you have a decent recommendation for an affordable grinder for espresso (I have a Breville Bambino that I just make lattes with) preferably under $100? 😬 I buy my beans at World Market and use the grinder there in store (lol) which has worked great for me but it broke so I’ve been looking to buy my own
This may be a sacrilegious question… But I have purchased a Nespresso vertuoline and I am refilling the capsules. Although the unit supposedly provides single shot, double shot, triple shot and 7.7 ounce coffee, depending on the capsule, I use the fine grind on the shard or. Any suggestions?
It's probably either not assembled correctly, loosely, or a safety switch could be broken. Everything needs to be locked in right, or it won't turn on. If that's not the issue, reach out to the manufacturer
Would like to see review of the updated SHARDOR Conical Burr Coffee Grinder, Electric Adjustable Burr Mill with 14 Precise Grind Setting. I noticed it is steel vrs plastic burr cutter. I like how easy it is to clean. I'm trying to decide between that or the Baratza Encore, which appears to be a bear to clean, but has an outstanding reputation for quality and longevity.
It will grind medium to fine great for moka pots. Don't regrind coffee. Just get some whole beans, preferably roasted within a month of when you use them.
not a bad buy since i paid $30cad for mine(half amazon's price), and cannot complain as i use it for a $4 dollaramma french press and a $10 salvation army saeco aroma espresso machine.
New subscriber here. We have been grinding coffee with a cheap grinder for a couple of years. That grinder was failing so my wife bought one similar to yours (same manufacture, but the course/fine settings are rotated in the hopper). It has quit working and I am trying to put it back together where a micro switch might have disabled power. We have been using this for a month and it is really handy. We use it in a drip coffee maker. I noticed you twisted the removable ring burr and clicked it in. Perhaps that is what I haven’t done. Thanks for the video!
I have the Hamilton Beach version which looks identical and cant get the burr out...No matter how hard I pull, afraid to break it! When I twist the burr to the unlock position, it won't pull out, and the wheel on the side twists at the same time to the Espresso setting. Conversely, when I twist it to the lock position, the wheel on the side goes around to the French Press position. Any thoughts? It's brand new and I wonder if I got a lemon?
I use a Lido 3. If you're grinding solely for espresso, than the Lido E. Going quality hand grinder saves a TON of money! I do a review of the Lido if you're interested
Hi there, I'm having trouble deciding something, hope you can help :). So I recently started getting into coffee and the coffee making process.... Decided to buy a relatively cheap, pressurised coffee machine. Is it better if i buy pre ground coffee from a coffee shop, or would it be better if i just bought an inexpensive grinder like this?
Thank you for this great and sincere review. Do you think the more expensive Shardor grinder could be good enough for espresso? The quality of grinded coffee would be uniform enough? Thank you very much!
@@aldopalacios3357 it should work if you use a pressurized basket. If you use a standard basket, you'll need to spend at least 4X more than a grinder like this to get it consistent enough
I have had this machine for about 4 months. I find it very easy to use and I have tried all the settings I can get on it. I like strong coffee and it is hard to find dark roast beans in the store. If you have a great coffee bean with some kick, please tell me where to look. One of my sons just moved into their new house. I am giving him a new grinder like this one plus a Mr. Coffee machine. At this moment I have been drinking Dunkin whole bean but they only have med blend. Thanks for the review and if you will put me on a great dark roast bean. Jerry from Irmo South Carolina.
Hi Thanks for posting your video :-)...i haven't used mine yet, was just delivered yesterday. I've been using the Shardor blade grinder and i noticed it sometimes leaves whole beans ungrinded so i thought i'd upgrade. It looks like a cheap burr grinder... but.. from what you said, this burr grinder still much better than using a blade grinder? By the way, i use the V60 pour over method, using a dark roast.
I bought one of these in an effort to de-sludge my French Press. This requires a consistent coarse grind which this machine is incapable of producing regardless of which grind setting you use.. They really need to re-engineer this thing to make a true coarse grind.
The block style burr is cheap and doesn't produce a consistent grind size. No matter how coarse you set it, there will still be a lot of fine particles mixed in
On an old coffee grinder, I made coffee from a coarse grind. He got strong. I bought this coffee grinder and tried to make a medium grind and brew coffee in a moka pot. This time, the coffee was not rich.. What should I do? Should I grind coarser or finer?
This exact model broke for me on the second try. Motor was spinning inside the grinder but the head was stuck somehow. I just returned it and got my money back.
Great video. Can you do a longevity video by running the machine until it dies. Also, can you make espresso with coffee ground from this machine despite your hesitancy in recommending it for espresso? Thanks!
Thanks for the review!! I just purchased this grinder and want to use it with a...don't bash...a Keurig and the filter pods. I'm thinking medium grind for one as it's just me?
The wide range of settings should be able to dial in for that. Let me know how it works after you go through some trial and error to find the right grind coarseness.
Is it necessary to clean the coffee grinder after every time you use ti? i'm hoping not, lol..or maybe just the container that catches the grinds and the rest once in a while?
There is quite a bit of coffee that stays internally inside grinder. You must turn grinder on side while holding and lightly smack it to get most of coffee into the grinding chamber.
It will work, since that model uses a pressurized portafilter basket, giving you more flexibility with grind size. It might not be as consistent as higher end grinders, but this should get you by.
If you are looking to get an electric grinder for non- pressurized portafilters, I recommend the Baratza Sette 270. For the best value option, the Lido E hand grinder.
I'm really looking for something basic. Thanks for the review, a lot of people only consider Baratza as an entry level and don't even talk about the ones that are lower in price, but not everyone is looking for a perfect grind, a good one is enough 😊
Looking at the ground beans, nah, that walmart $25 hamilton beach one is far far better than this! I'm using that and very happy with the consistency! And for the pressurized espresso machine, don't use fine fine ground beans, that will block the filter and flow.
Ok that's off the list as it is very loud contrary to what you said! It sounded like the bering (if it has any?) Were going out! And again it sounded horrific! You need a hearing test man!
