Amen God bless you all.. Luke 21:7-37 King James Version (KJV) 7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? 8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. 9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. 10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: 11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. 12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. 13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony. 14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: 15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. 16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. 17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. 18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish. 19 In your patience possess ye your souls. 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. 22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. 29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. 31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. 32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Philippians 2:10-11 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father

Matt and Atheist Staff. I’ve been listening to your channel for a long time. I’m a former Christian and I can’t believe I was one of them. I was a fool and sadly it took a crazy Christian woman from my church to abuse my daughters to see that. My youngest was playing ROBLOX and was condemned to hell for playing that demonic game and not praying. Love your show and thanks for knocking a lot of sense.
Your daughter is lucky you have so much empathy for her situation. Thank you for protecting her the best you can. No amount of abuse so far will get my family to question their faith. I have no contact with most of them and they just tell everyone they are praying for me.
Mani Fest Honestly, I hate myself for letting that happened. I trusted those people and I was surprised what they did to her. There was more than that. Because I benefited from President Obama’s policies from military service (GI Bill/Health Care) I was viewed in serving Satan. It took me 5 months to be deconverted.
jason antigua I was a fool believe me. I’m just being honest with myself. I bought in to the Christian belief because it thought it was the answers to my problems. The reality is we must face our issues instead of giving it to a God or anyone. Religion kills and cause division to society.
@@XGen_23 Don't hate yourself. You did the best you could at the time and now you have better information and you're doing better. That's all any of us can do.
Anthony, when I was still a Muslim and was going to the mosque, I've seen people start crying their eyes out when listening to Qur'an being recited, it happened to me too. I was always told that this was the confirmation of the truth of the book. Mind you, Qur'an would be recited in Arabic, a language neither I nor the other who cried understood.
That's interesting. Years ago I was listening to some new ager give a talk and I just started crying and I was astonished and embarrassed. So these weird things can happen with all sorts of material.
@@fleabitz1474, yes. I also believe that it's the setting that we're we aware of being in. I get goosebumps from Pink Floyd music and their song, High Hopes, makes my eyes tear up every time Gilmour starts playing the sliding guitar solo. This also goes towards confirming my beliefs on these reactions being about the setting and the state of ones mind rather than pointing to some greater truth or supernatural influence.
@FACE GALLON, I love British rock bands but Floyd is one of those bands if I was going to an island to be isolated, I would take their material and be just fine indefinitely... I don't play any instruments buy if I had time to start it would definitely be a guitar.
I cant stand it! I already have a strong aversion towards mouth noises and hearing this guy's wet wispering (no idea how to call it otherwise) just drives me up the wall.

@@Julian0101 Your group claims "There are 35 million different gods, name your critter." Let's say praying to God is useful if God exists the same way talking to each other is useful if both people are open minded.
Some of the Christian idiots want to attend Easter mass in the midst of this pandemic. They should pray that God won't let them get the virus and once they get the virus, maybe just maybe they will open up their eyes and realize God is an evil man or doesn't exist.
"Life is trial and error, science is keeping track of the errors. Science is testing, religion is guessing. " This statement is simply wrong. Science and religion are not mutually exclusive. One can develop a science based-religion. There is no requirement for religion to be theistic and/or superstitious either.
This episode is a perfect example of how wrong the people are that say, “it can’t hurt to believe in a god”. Yes, yes it can hurt you, when you believe that magic is protecting you from dangers.
Doesn't just hurt them either. The people still stupid enough to go to church and risk spreading covid-19 will inevitably infect innocent people trying their best to avoid these things.
Sure it can hurt. Your confidence in assessing reality might suffer. If you think something's wrong with you because you don't see how these doctrines make sense or because you can't perceive a god in any way then you start to doubt yourself. If you doubt your own perceptions and ability to reason then that may make you more prone to believe authority or popular notions without question. Accepting a ready-made moral code which harms people's lives for no discernible reason can make one indifferent to and not take responsibility for causing that harm. Being superstitious instead of solving problems. Being more invested in a fictitious relationship than in the real relationships in one's life.
@David Anewman On average anyone infected infects 3 other people. Do that 10 times and there's almost 60,000 people infected. And some of those will die from it.
@David Anewman any one who gets infected by this disease by some one who refuses to follow the CDC guidelines is innocent. In the case of Christians, some may ignorantly believe that praying will make it go away and that's just a different kind of innocence. They're innocent is of not knowing any better than the indoctrination they've received that makes them believe that. It's kind of pitiful, actually.
@David Anewman its not in reference to whether or not they've committed some crime or imoral thing. Please don't complicate the narrative. Any thing done to some one against their will and for no reason makes the any victim innocent. Whether they deserved it or not is another topic.
Great episode folks. Appreciate the hard work to make it happen under these fucking strange circumstances. All the best with lockdown - day 5 going into 6 here in the UK. Stay safe x

Matt: Is the sky blue; yes or no? Caller: Well let me explain... This sounds a lot like a press conference with a politician speaking. The rule seems to be to never ever answer the question asked.
David Rector It drives me crazy. The majority of these calls end because they won’t answer a yes or no question. Answer the question and we can move on and you can give your explanation if it’s relevant. It’s easy. Matt isn’t bullying you; he sees a tap dance coming and is keeping you off script and on topic, which is where learning happens.
@BrackynMor Well... The sun doesn't look very white most of the day, but the temperature of the sun ensures that it is always white. All substances of a certain temperature are white. The air, nitrogen, oxygen, etc. is colourless. The sky however contains dust and water. Water is actually a very light blue. Depending on the pollution and humidity, the sky can in fact be a very light blue because of the water, which you can't see because our eyes aren't sensitive enough. We can't even see that liquid water is blue, that's how little colour it has, but it does have colour, just as the sun has all colours and not just the ones we see. What we see does not determine what colour something is. Have you ever seen something that _is_ purple? What's the wavelength of purple? ;) You can say that something is purple and the sky is colourless or blue or red and that the sun is yellow and that the sun comes up even though the sun has never gone up in its entire existence. If the communication is effective, it's fine, but if we're being pedantic, a lot of what we say is complete horseshit.
Just saw this. My favorite thing to do when faced with Christians who defy public health warnings to go to Church is to quote the Bible at them. _“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."_ It did not make me popular.
You are awesome! All of you, the whole AXP team. Thank you for keeping up your show, it's one of the best treats in self-isolation I can hope for :) Stay safe everyone!
Jenna, I was really impressed by your comment about not knowing how to wonder. That struck me very strongly. Religion and dogma cause people to trust in a person or a book or both and stop asking questions. And to not "wonder". That is so sad to me. I've never thought about it in that way before Jenna said that. So thank you Jenna. This gives me another tool to discuss religion with my theist friends.
If you wondered for just one second how "the brain produces the mind," you'd research the matter as I have for 45 years instead of baldly claiming it. Usually followed by the bald claim, "This is what all the evidence indicates" proving a total lack of competency about the word 'evidence' as if it's a one 'word' *affair.*
It drives me crazy when callers like Alex from Saskatchewan just calls to hear himself talk. He didn't hear a word Matt said. That's so incredibly rude.
Some speak because they have something to say, and some speak because they have to say something. And never underestimate a narcissists' lust for proving absolutely everyone else wrong about absolutely everything.
I'm so glad you are still doing shows!! I am watching after-the-fact, but I really needed to know you guys are still there, carrying on. I spent 7 weeks in lockdown in China only to come to America (California, which is not home), spent two weeks in quarantine, only to go into lockdown here. matt, please never stop giving us amazing arguments and sound reasoning training. jenna, my gosh you are cool and smart and pretty and sweet. love you two together!
Oh man I love how much support Lana is giving her daughter, it makes me so happy. All I can say is that I’ve heard so many stories about conservatives changing their minds on things because it directly involves them or their family, so they may become more supportive once they have a bit more time to process. And if they don’t, kick em to the curb. They don’t deserve being in you or your daughters life if they can’t be supportive.
Sean doesn’t understand that the feeling of sudden insight is due to his subconscious at work. It is busy working in the background on problems. When it comes to a solution, then it enters it into your consciousness.
Yup, this is what I wrote about it just now: 1:11:56: Sean the Engineer talking about channeling something "higher". Our brains are massively complicated, and even if you've trained yourself to solve problems with straight clear logic, that's still just going to operate in a small part of your brain. But when you expose yourself to a problem over weeks or months and think about it constantly, then other parts of your brain may come up with unexpected solutions, even through dreams. As the brain isn't a linear computer, and there's a lot going on. So it takes repetitions and rephrasing of the problem to understand it on different levels, until some part of your brain just gets it and presents a solution or line of reasoning. If it was really a higher power, the best method would just be to pray really hard, instead of trying to understand the problem better, right?
WeGo Agree. That’s why people say “I’ll sleep on it” (to be fair, they also say they’ll “pray about it”). If you’ve ever had the experience of going to bed with a problem and awakening with the solution, you know what I mean.
Mormons in my neighborhood are still going door to door. I had to yell them away yesterday because they were knocking on the door of my next door neighbor who got a liver transplant LAST MONTH. She's the epitome of immunocompromised, and they were totally unconcerned about being in her space after being in dozens of homes all day. So dangerous. I hate it.
I used to get beat on the regular for not believing in god and not singing praise in church. Anytime i confided in a church member about my doubts it would always get back to my step dad and i would grt hit. No matter how many times i prayed for the abuse to stop it didnt. One day my mom found out me and my brother were getting litteraly pushed down and punched in the stomach on a weekly basis for 3 years and she got us the fuck out of there. She wanted to leave him already from all the verbal and psychological abuse but thought she would condemn herself and all of us to hell. 8 years later i finally got the balls to speak up and tell the police only to find out theres a 7 year time limit to report child abuse. I became a opiate addict at 14 years old, sobered up when i turned 20 and now im trying to get dental work done from years of depression not taking care myself and drug abuse. On top of that my best friend killed herself 6 years ago at 17 because she wanted to go to hell on her own terms instead gods....... Praise Christ
According to the Genesis narrative, Yahweh/Jehovah/Elohim, is anything but an intelligent designer. He even admitted in his own words, that "he was sorry he had made them". Is this a statement made by an impeccable creator who cannot make a mistake? He does not exist.
Both Alex and Aaron seemed determined to read from their scripts and either ignore Matt and Jen's questions outright, or answer questions they never actually asked when things deviated from their scripts.
To Sean, I have exactly the same experience as you. I can get a request to write some code, walk down the hall to my office, and my subconscious mind has written it by the time I get there. I can do anagrams that way too. The science fiction writer Damon Knight called his subconscious Fred, and when he was stuck on a story sent the problem to Fred, who figured out the answer. Your subconscious mind is very smart. It is all you, not God or anything from outside.
I love guessing for reasons! 5 bucks says he's a JW :D Also, I might have a slight advantage and a big disadvantage. I have spoken with JW's and they are all just like Alex: salving voices with strict scripts, hearing nothing you say or ask, just repeating dumb shit you already refuted or conceded. My disadvantage is not knowing if and how many other religious people proselytize like that.
I think Anthony was low-key arguing the bandwagon fallacy. Omar: "You moved the goal posts!" Actually, you just don't have a good response. Lana: please pass my respect and love onto your daughter. She is better than those who won't accept her and you *both* deserve better than to be torn up like this. Hope you're doing well.❤️

Regarding Omar's call at 1:30:00 ish, I think that describing and defining what "Moving the Goalposts" means should have been part of the conversation. Seems Omar had a different understanding of what that means than Matt and Jenna.
I feel like Matt doesn't really have any interest in trying to understand what the callers mean, only in refuting the minutae of whatever might be faulty in the things they say. He wasnt always like this, I thihk it's hurting the show.
@Kibate Ya, I agree it's not good to constantly ask for definitions. But in this interaction, I didn't know what the goalpost was, or when and where it got moved, so I thought it needed a better foundation.
Alex : someone that sits around thinking (at least that is what he calls it) without understanding the foundations of reason; concluding that he is a leading philosopher.
@Mike Hobson I am gay and I am content with who I am. Try harder if you want to classify my identity as a cult. People like you are the reason Christians frighten me. I am not even an atheist to see that.
Sean should look at the work of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi on creativity and states of flow, which he describes as "a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it” and "moments in which your mind becomes entirely absorbed in the activity so that you “forget yourself” and begin to act effortlessly, with a heightened sense of awareness of the here and now."
Touching a affection starved person, that person will always react in a strongly emotional way. Going around, taking drugs and do stupid things kinda suggests that he was starving attention and affection. So it's only understandable that he reacts strongly to it.
To add to Matt's point on hypnotism when speaking to Anthony from Florida, another thing people could check out is the Asch Conformity Experiment. The need for us humans to be accepted by our peers is a pretty powerful psychological phenomenon that is often used by various groups to gain influence and denounce detractors.
Lana, in case you read this. Thank you for being a good parent to your daughter. And I hope that she is able to continue with the process and grow and get support where needed. And it is amazing that she has, at the very least, you to be there for her.
For anyone interested who haven't checked it out yet, John Hopkins University has a COVID source on their site as well that is incredibly useful. Great to see you guys and gals doing as well as possible and I hope everyone at Atheist Experience stays happy and healthy for the duration of this crisis time. TALES FROM THE CALL SCREEN DESK Proof of God Folks, its been said before, but I don’t think everyone here realizes the miracle they have witnessed here today. Last week was tough enough, the crew was cut down to just a few of us. Just Mark, Vern, John and myself. Half the hosts were calling in from undisclosed locations where we hoped they would remain safe during all this. It was weird. Quiet. Too quiet. It didn’t feel like Sunday at the Freethought Library, but we pulled it off and produced a group of shows we were very proud of. That, however, was NOTHING compared to the Herculean task before us this week. Well, let me correct myself, it wasn’t before us as much as it was before two very specific members of the team. Mark and Vern, the two who beyond their 15 seconds on the crew cam often get ignored by the fans. It was up to them to abandon our beloved studio completely and find a way to do EVERYTHING remotely. Each host, each crew member in a different location (spread across the country in fact) somehow had to come together, perfectly synchronized, clad in the funkiest of jammies (or maybe that was just me) and produce two Live shows. Their dedication over the last few days. The endless trial and error, working out bug after bug, detail after detail until the system FINALLY worked...mostly. The initial run through Thursday night which, shall we say, didn’t go exactly as planned. The hours upon hours of rehearsal on Saturday (special thanks to all our test callers, we couldn’t have a nicer, more patient group of fans sitting on the phones pretending to be raving theists “You’re all going to burn!!!!”), and we still weren’t sure if this was going to work, but work it did! Folks, this achievement was not the work of mortal men. What Mark and Vern managed to pull off may finally be our long sought proof of the supernatural. It might be time to close up shop.
@@callscreenerpaul6636 I appreciate the supernatural effort you guys went to. I have one suggestion: recorded cheers and 👏 after the intro to cover the awkward pause of social distancing. 🏝️

1:08:00 - This is one of the most common arguments against Evolution and it's based on a profound error in understanding of what is meant by natural selection by random mutation. The caller's analogy of the box of marbles is flawed. On the one hand the caller imagines an "entity" doing the color sorting.....and on the other hand posits random agitation of the marbles and the improbability of sorting colors in the same way. But that's not an apt metaphor for natural selection because the second example lacks a selection function. The apt metaphor would be an "agent" doing color sorting on one hand, and and some kind of non-conscious "selection mechanism" on the other.....such as the two colors being slightly different sizes and the existence of a sieve in the box.....in that case you get fairly efficient non-conscious sorting with nothing more than random agitation.......and would rather likely and rather quickly produce a result that looks suspiciously like the first. Evolution is not a theory of randomness producing order....it is a theory of how random changes that are "selected" by natural pressures (e.g. a non-conscious "sorting" mechanism" that has no ultimate goal but "sorts and selects" nevertheless) can produce order.
@Marilyn Newman Yes. The sieve or "sorting mechanism" involves something called "fitness". It's not a conscious "chooser"....it's an unconscious filter that merely selects among all of the random changes depending on whether they improve fitness in some way and thus get passed along. Those random changes that do get passed along....those that don't......don't. in the example of the colored marbles, all one needs is something analogous to "fitness" e.g. the slightly smaller marbles of one color pass through a sieve while the other color cannot. Marbles of one color are "fit" to exist on one side of the sieve while the marbles of the other color are not. With nothing more than random agitation you would get rather effective and thorough sorting of colors even though no conscious "sorter" is involved. But the results sure would give the "appearance" as if one was........
Hi Matt and Jenny, watching from the south African desert - the karoo, quite amazing we are also under lock down in a one horse town ,keep up the good work 😉
Love you guys! I appreciate you for your services and your messages. Matt, try Half Life Alyx if you can get your hands on a good VR Headset you will love it and is amazing escapism during this challenging time. Cheers! Jenna, I came to the same conclusion about “shelter in place”. Be well both of you.
Yes! _Yes!_ I love it when creationists invoke thermodynamics to explain their nonsense, and Matt, you fucking nailed that. A basic quiz (such as "what are the other laws of thermodynamics" and "what kind of system does thermodynamics apply to") _always_ reveals that the creationist does not understand the thing that they are trying to argue.
Anytime a creationist brings it up and I tell them it only applies to isolated systems (which are rare and may not even exist naturally) and that we just assume the Universe is one because we haven't seen evidence that it isn't... they immediately say that that doesn't matter and go off on some nonsensical rant. Stripey did it, "Doc" Powers did it... they just keep doing it. Hell, "Doc" has switched to saying the second law of thermodynamics is "everything goes from bad to worse". Which is so absurd I don't even know what to say.
I literally stood up cheered and applauded after Matt took down creationist Alex like I have never seen a creationist taken down in history--as each and every fucking creationist so totally deserve to be taken down with all the force and vigour that exists in the universe.
"Peer" refers to people of equal standing. I think most people become religious because they're taught by their parents. I think "indoctrination" is a better word.
On the question of how things come into ones brain unbidden - I like doing cryptic crosswords and sometimes when I can't get a solution I just put the crossword aside and do something else and when I come back to the crossword the answer I was struggling over sometimes comes to me immediately. My response is not "God must have told me the answer" but "my brain interpreted the clue in a different way", as often happens. I'm sure other people's brains do similar things in various situations, and some of them give the credit to God.
"I wouldn't say most people, because I knew this one guy" ....and then that didn't even make the changes he said people make. That was easily one of the worst examples I've ever seen anyone give for anything
For those who didn't want to listen to Alex's incoherent conflations of mechanics and particle physics, cosmology and evolution, he finally gets to his point around 1:01:00. He claims scientifically understood 'forces' have a point/goal, and are what he sees as the most efficient way to achieve that goal. Gaah, I lost brain cells trying to figure out his amateurish picture of the past. "let me just run this thought experiment"

It sounds like Omar built his whole argument off the guy who made that Dillahunty Dodge video. He even cited some of the same examples, the David Wood debate and the discussion with Cosmic Skeptic. People who don't understand logical fallacies commit 2 obvious errors. The first one is they incorrectly accuse the other person of committing a certain fallacy when they are not. Secondly, when they themselves are in the midst of committing a fallacy, they are unaware of it. It's really sad when all it would take was a quick google search to clear things up.
I am a musician, skilled at playing guitar, piano, mandolin, mandola, and bouzouki(Irish tuning). Can also play enough drums to embarrass myself but that's beside the point. What I'm getting at is that I've never felt any higher power moving me when I play. I only feel the result of my own work and passion for music , the muscle memory, I've acquired through countless hours of practice and play. No idea where Sean was coming from with his weird thoughts on playing music.
Some music can produce a profound emotional reaction though, whether as a performer or just a listener. Certain people want to attribute that feeling to something outside themselves for some reason.
Oooooooh Matt got piiiiiissed. That Alex caller triggered me mad hard cause I had a college professor who had similar arguments, but was far more dishonest. And Jenna is such a nice host. Good contrast to Matt.
Honey Tone No he was a physics prof. And any educated theologian worth their salt wouldn’t act like that. The sheer dishonesty was so surprising to me, his arguments consisted of misrepresenting scientific discoveries and cherry picking data to try and make it sound like science didn’t work. Worst of all, he knew what he was doing was incorrect and refused to even acknowledge it when I pointed it out. Typical stuff like: bumblebees being unable to fly, carbon dating is unreliable (ignoring the fact that there are multiple different radiometric dating methods), the eye couldn’t of evolved, evolution is random etc etc. he was a brilliant guy but he was nuts. Funny thing is, I would always fact check what he was saying and his arguments drove me further away from his point of view.
Hi Matt, just want to say thanks for helping me become atheist, for about the past 6 months. Also, happy birthday, my birthday is too March 31, I’ll be 35. I hope I’ll recover in the next week, but as soon as I’m feeling better, the next day I wake up with the worst fever. It’s been a little hard with me being an Iraq vet with ptsd and being isolated. But, I know that with my youngish age I’m sure I’ll recover. It’s just a little hard being in a new town and not knowing anyone. BTW, the numbers are higher than u think. I went to base to get tested, they wouldn’t give me a test since I’m not sure I came in contact with a positive person. However, the Dr. said he was sure I had it, and gave me an official 14 day quarantine chit. However, I got sick after going to class on base, and u know people are coming and going from all over the world. So I likely got it then, but who knows as this point. So as a Marine (yes, and I’m female, it surprises people sometimes that we exist, though I’m out of the Marines now, I did my time, lol) I mean this lighthearted when I say, “Ooh rah, squid”. Happy bday. By the way, the only celebrity other than u that has our bday is Al Gore, lol, fun fact. Hope people don’t get what I have. For me, as a youngish person, it started when I thought my allergies were just getting worse, but the fever is what gets you.
Not that far out of norm....Herodotus' histories was the first history book, is considered historical evidence, and has fantastical things in it. The big difference is when Herodotus relates something magical he tends to add "that's what they told me anyway".
@Barthelemy , apparently you don't understand humor. The Bible the most sold and least read book ever. That has spawned thousands of interpretations and sects. I think it's "time" for that nonsense to leave our culture.
Man... Anthony's call frustrated me slightly lol For some half the call, the lights were on but no one was home. He is a scammers dream! I really hope he's working on that. @@joerusso7851 I wish more straight dudes could be secure enough in their "manhood" and sexuality in this manner as well. Like David, I am straight and will readily acknowledge a good looking man aloud and care not one whit what anyone thinks about me for saying so. I used to think that I might possibly be bi because of this awareness about other men and I revisit that idea every now and then but always arrive back at the fact that I am straight. I'm able to recognize and appreciate a good looking man and in addition, the thought of me participating in gay sex, pitching or catching with another guy, does not seem disgusting to me. In a situation where I had no choice but to have sex with men or not at all, I don't think I'd have a problem getting down and dirty with the guys. It does not appeal to me however, and I'm not sexually attracted to men so I'm not about to you suggest to anyone that I'm anything other than what I am, a boring garden-variety heterosexual male. However, my eldest son is gayer than a basket full of rainbows and when he and I hang out together in public, we have a ball checking out both the guys and the ladies and pointing them out to each other because we're both very single at the moment. I just don't understand people who get so weird about these things and start in with the innuendos when a guy acknowledge is another guy who is chiseled from Stone or attractive or whatever. To Sean - the feeling of flow you get while producing art - that feeling that seems like it's coming from somewhere else- is just an example of how much of our mental processes act below the level of attention. There's tons of research on it, including some recent neuroscience on the brains of good vs bad improvisers. It's all googleable (other search engines are available).

I don’t think anyone that is reasonable about animal ethics is worried about meat consumption being innately immoral (I.e roadkill), they’re obviously more concerned about purchasing products from factory farms where animals are abused and slaughtered every second. Donating or not donating to charity is different from choosing to thrive on plant foods, rather than animal products that entail unnecessary abuse, slaughter, and environmental degradation. I’d really like to hear Matt discuss animal ethics further with someone like Alex again. Great show guys!

Luke 21:7-37 King James Version (KJV)
7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?
8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.
14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
Philippians 2:10-11
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father

XGen_23 You was definitely not a fool!

Life is trial and error, science is keeping track of the errors. Science is testing, religion is guessing.
Some of the Christian idiots want to attend Easter mass in the midst of this pandemic. They should pray that God won't let them get the virus and once they get the virus, maybe just maybe they will open up their eyes and realize God is an evil man or doesn't exist.
I’m a chemist and chemistry is false
Well said
Religion is worse than guessing - it's making it up, and claiming that you're right and there's no argument in it.
Stay safe x

This sounds a lot like a press conference with a politician speaking. The rule seems to be to never ever answer the question asked.
David Rector It drives me crazy. The majority of these calls end because they won’t answer a yes or no question.
What's the wavelength of purple? ;)
You can say that something is purple and the sky is colourless or blue or red and that the sun is yellow and that the sun comes up even though the sun has never gone up in its entire existence. If the communication is effective, it's fine, but if we're being pedantic, a lot of what we say is complete horseshit.

Did Alex desired to have a penis or 2 hands... or even his own name? If not what piece of his desire did he get in a reality?
Just saw this. My favorite thing to do when faced with Christians who defy public health warnings to go to Church is to quote the Bible at them.
_“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."_

Jenna, I was really impressed by your comment about not knowing how to wonder. That struck me very strongly.
Roch Xavier yes. It is amazing how our brains can put together all this information gleaned over years, to come up with solutions.
Yup, this is what I wrote about it just now:
1:11:56: Sean the Engineer talking about channeling something "higher".
WeGo
Agree.
Jenna and Matt: GREAT job on this program. “Intelligent design” is not a branch of any science.
According to the Genesis narrative, Yahweh/Jehovah/Elohim, is anything but an intelligent designer.
He even admitted in his own words,
that "he was sorry he had made them".
Is this a statement made by an impeccable creator who cannot make a mistake?
He does not exist.
Alex is giving me all kinds of giggles! He's trying so hard I almost feel bad for him but I'm still laughing.
Both Alex and Aaron seemed determined to read from their scripts and either ignore Matt and Jen's questions outright, or answer questions they never actually asked when things deviated from their scripts.
To Sean,
I have exactly the same experience as you.
Why exactly was Alex speaking so silently? It gave me serial killer vibes...
Probably read in a book that it demonstrates intelligence. unfortunately, the content of his argument was trash.
I had airline pilot vibes.
I love guessing for reasons! 5 bucks says he's a JW :D
Also, I might have a slight advantage and a big disadvantage. I have spoken with JW's and they are all just like Alex: salving voices with strict scripts, hearing nothing you say or ask, just repeating dumb shit you already refuted or conceded.
My disadvantage is not knowing if and how many other religious people proselytize like that.

Alex: blah blah, I believe in intelligent design
Long-winded diatribe summed up
Touching a affection starved person, that person will always react in a strongly emotional way.

TALES FROM THE CALL SCREEN DESK
Proof of God
Folks, its been said before, but I don’t think everyone here realizes the miracle they have witnessed here today.
Feiner Fug um, what?
Fucking MVP'S right there
My great admiration, gratitude and respect to Mark, Vern, yourself and all the staff that makes the show possible. You guys are awesome. Keep safe.

Damn
Matt was on fire this episode

They've all learned that one argument.
ThermoGodDamnits.
Great show! Great show! Thanks for the extra calls!
Religion is the biggest example of peer pressure.
"I wouldn't say most people, because I knew this one guy"
....and then that didn't even make the changes he said people make.
That was easily one of the worst examples I've ever seen anyone give for anything

Great show. No noticeable delays from here. I didn't watch live though.

Was your dishonest teacher a theology professor? If so, you should have expected a certain level of bias.
Honey Tone
No he was a physics prof.
Honey Tone
And I know what I’m saying might be confusing, but just google “bumblebees can’t fly”. It’s hilarious.
Frances Snowflake Please. It's not really a stretch to think that most professors of theology might have a belief in a god.

Hi Matt, just want to say thanks for helping me become atheist, for about the past 6 months. Also, happy birthday, my birthday is too March 31, I’ll be 35.
Unfortunately, I’m in official quarantine, unfortunately I’m sick with the global cooties for the past two weeks.
Happy birthday. 🎂 I hope you get well soon.
YY4Me133 😊 thank u
Happy Birthday. I'm sorry that you are going through this right now. I really hope you get better soon and be happy and safe. Oorah!!!
