Today I ran my first trail run in my Brooks 13 and my friend was telling me to buy Altra rail running shoe and there you go Kofuzi uploaded video, luv it.
@@deamon2107 Sure will try that as well. Whenever I tried running in high mid soles like Hoka Clifton 7, it gives me pain. So found out that medium sole works for me better
I love this shoe and I think you nailed it with this review. Definitely not for the alpine! In my experience it wasn’t because they lacked grip, but the lugs get chopped off. I’d love to see a Vibram outsole on these bad boys!
Running Addict is correct. I’d be curious about the racers though as well. I’ve been semi-considering the Escalante 2.5’s since I hear they’re more like the beloved 1.5’s which are non-existent in my size.
Lev and Martha Polyakin-Aarons The 2.5’s are softer than the 2’s. Good update. Worth it skipping the clearance sales on the 2’s to pay the extra scratch. You can actually tell a difference in cushioning between the 2.5’s and the Racers.
Anyone else here remember the burrito wrap versions of the Brooks Pure line? (Pure Cadence and others) We all thought they looked weird with the offset diagonal lacing system but Nike copied that idea in the Next%! I still think it looks weird though.....
A really great “commuter” shoe that I think would do great on those dirt and gravel roads, and possibly better than those Altra’s even on more technical trails are the Brooks Pure Grit. I think you’d like them, Mike. It has a rock plate but like the rest of the “Pure” line (not much left of that other than the Pure Grit and the Pure Flow) it’s very light, neutral, 4 mm drop, stable, nimble and fun to run in even on harder surfaces. Pretty deep lugs spaced well enough that they don’t catch debris, and nice cushioning. Also a sturdy toe bumper and that burrito-wrap tongue design.
I can see you have something for your right knee and your foot pointing slightly outward. I have this same issue and am wondering what specific things you do to help this subside for long distances
For the life of me I don't know why on earth they insist on that exposed foam. This shoe would be SOOOO much better without it. And the pads of my feet would be genuinely grateful
Outstanding video!! How would you compare the type of "hybrid" shoe to the Torrent 2 you also liked for the same kind? I'm really on the fence of both 😅
Hi Kofuzi! Thanks for this video! 2 quick ones: I know it's not gore-tex but how does the upper do in rainy conditions? You mentioned it should drain pretty fast, but what do you think? And, did you have a chance to test the grip on snowy/icy conditions? How is it or how do you think it'd do? I'm thinking that if this shoe could be a good commuter, fine for light trails, and finally do well on snowy or icy roads... that'd be awesome! ^^
Hi Kofuzi do you recommend these shoes the Altra Superior 4.5 or the Salomon sense ride 3 because I have the same terrain as you do some dirt roads/ pavement
Yo Mike I wonder how running in the Altras feels on your knee. I had some significant knee issues earlier in the year and since switching to a mostly Altra diet my knee pain has significantly improved. I suspect in my case it has to do with the wider toebox for more stable landings, but who even knows.
Me too. It's because the heel and forefoot are equal in hieght which promotes a natural alignment between your foot and the rest of your body. Therefore; The muscles of your foot act as a shock absorber so it can better distribute the forces that are being transferred to the knee, hip, pelvis and back when you land. Zero drop shoes have a higher injury rates in the lower leg and foot where traditional running shoes have a higher injury rates to the hip and knee. I have a partial torn ACL, LCL, and torn meniscus in one knee. No surgery just rehab. My other knee I had surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Believe it or not, I'm pain free when I run in my Altras.
Shit outsoles. Altra had better put Vibram on all of their shoes. It's ridiculous to pay 120$ dollars on all models with that god-knows-what type rubber. Looks and feels like cheap tyre rubber.
Feel really glad and blessed to watch your videos once again after being away for awhile....
thanks for watching! glad to have you back!
Sounds like a great road to trail option, especially as the weather has well and truly turned here in the UK. Great content as always Mike 👍🏻
I’m a new subscriber and find your content extremely helpful to my running journey. Thanks.
This is my favorite hiking shoe. Not a runner but a great trail shoe for me.
Just got my first pair of 4.5 and i love the feel. Tomorrow i'll take them out for a test run/walk:)
Those trails are beautiful! 🤩
I think that’s the best review I’ve seen for the superior shoe
Today I ran my first trail run in my Brooks 13 and my friend was telling me to buy Altra rail running shoe and there you go Kofuzi uploaded video, luv it.
You should try the Altra Olympus 3.5 and also the new Olympus 4. Great for trails.

Thanks for this review. I found a pair of the 5.0 on Amazon for $88 so I’ll give them a try.
Great review, thank you.
really dig the sunset there
I've gone over 200 in mine now, and they're still going strong. :)
Good video, I really enjoyed the content. Thnxx!
I love to see some winter shoe reviews aswell 👍
coming soon
Great video, very informative
I'd really like to hear your thoughts on the Escalante Racer!
And Torin 4 non plush
I love the 4 but the toe nail vs toe bumper action makes it difficult to enjoy. How is that toe bumper with the 4.5?
Had the same issue with the 4s. Hoping the 4.5s are different
ever consider the altra escalante racer? theyre my first altras and by far my favorite shoe of 2020.
He already done a review on that
MrJermson I thought it was the regular Escalante 2’s.

Please do review on a newton gravity 9 and distance 9

Finally altas makes an appearance on the channel
Altra
He’s reviewed the Escalante as well as an earlier impression of this one ☝🏼
looks like the dogs are enjoy running with you.
The cushion on these is the same as the Torin but just for trail yeah?

the torrent 2 insulates against the rocks a bit better. the superior has a bit more finesse to it
Wrapped like a burrito 🌯
mmmm....burritos

@The Crazy Amateur Runner Glad I bought the Speedgoat 4 instead back in Jan (time of the original comment)! 😅
I will buy them for my long walks
so comfy for walking
Not for road marathons?
Please do a review after 200 miles!
Awesome insights! What is the knee wrap you’re using? I’m having some knee issues after getting back into higher mileage weeks. Cheers!
I wondering about the same thing! Great channel, btw!
Hi Kofuzi do you recommend these shoes the Altra Superior 4.5 or the Salomon sense ride 3 because I have the same terrain as you do some dirt roads/ pavement
the sense ride 3 is too much trail shoe for me and the terrain i have available to me here. it feels like a hiking boot and not like a running shoe.
Apologies if I have already asked but what camera are using here !? The quality look super
Especially on slow motion

What tights are you wearing?
Peg 36 trail vs superior 4.5? Looking for a hybrid shoe bc alot of my runs hit roads and gravel, buffed trails
What’s the split of pavement to not-pavement? If it’s anywhere near close to 50/50, go with Peg 36 trail. Otherwise, Superior.
Thanks! It is about 50/50.
What did the dog think of them kofuzi?
he could take them or leave them
@@kofuzi good to know...
That’s a graceful mustache
Do the Altras that you’ve tried run true to size compared to most shoe brands?
yes. i went with my usual size 9
Would you recommend this shoe as a winter/snow shoe for the road?
My only hesitation would be that the shoe is designed for drainage. It’s not waterproof.
But, it has enough room for thicker socks
@@kofuzi Thank you. What would you recommend?
these sneakers are like running/walking in an industrial sock.
I know. In a good way, right?
Did zero drop alleviate knee issues a bit or no?
i think so. maybe a bit.

You are right, I actually wrapped my superior 4s in vibram (mega grip) soles from ebay. Perfect shoe for Winter
How is the sizing on these? I'm often between a 9 and 9.5. Better to size up or down?
