I am an electrician. The reason he didn’t take the stickers off the lights is because they have to stay on. They are there to tell you the largest size lightbulb you can put in the fixture. For example if the maximum size bulb you can put in said like is 65 watts and you the homeowner put in a 100 watt bulb. The fixture overheats and causes damage. 15:15 I grew up in a house that had a water heater from 1930. We had it regularly serviced and it always worked really well. The farthest room away maybe took 2 min to get hot, which I think is acceptable for an old house, but it was almost literally scalding. The technicians always said to never get rid of it and that it would probably last for many more generations with service. The first thing the new owners did was get rid of it and replace it with a brand-new one, because they "did not trust it to work because it was so old." Within two years, the new one burst. They had not yet even moved into the house.
Fridges, Washers, Dryers, (was un-aware hot water heaters but makes sense) are a complete nightmare. I read online on new samsung washers and dryers that need thousands and visits every 4-6 months to replace parts and the service techs always point out (yea it will keep failing, it is a poor design). It is very sad but true. The best stuff is honestly the ugly poor people models of white fridges or washers or dryers where they are BUTT ugly but just use a design from 30years ago and they tend to work. On a plus, I'm not rich to have a fancy house with fancy stuff that breaks all the time - so not my problem. YOLO. This is why in multi-million dollar homes they use resturant grade fridges instead because those tend to work - they often don't get professional washers/dryers because those are OVERKILL in size and cost and often put two washers and dryers (because a service tech visit might be a few days, but ordering the failed part makes months) so they just get two of them so 1pair is always working.
@@JohnAdams-qc2ju So true, Samsung and LG appliances is extremely infamous for this. Alot of the newer appliances just aren't built as they used to with fancier and shinier things but those often become another point in the chain that could break. Also planned obsolescence for some of em as well.
Omg. This happened to someone I know. Their brand new tankless burst and flooded the house for four days right before they were about to move in (after redoing it).
The fact I watched this video about a home renovation is proof that I'm slowly turning into my parents! My mom loves watching HGTV, I do sometimes though!
What you're MEANT to do with the masking tape is to tape, paint, and as soon as that coat is done, remove the tape. You have to retape between coats. Cutting it with an exacto-knife always leaves imperfections that are very far more noticeable than any other method other than ripping it off. You're also meant to only use the tape as a safeguard not as place to wipe your brush off on.
15:51 You don't leave tape for months, you pull the tape as soon as you're done with the paint job. Or else the tape becomes a part of the wall and will be far much more difficult te remove after you're done.
Yes but you could tell that tape had been sitting there for a bit so i'm imagining they are going to have the problem Linus described. Unless it was literally just pained before filming...
The sweet spot is when the paint isn't wet but also not really dry. basically if you can lightly touch it without putting pressure/weight on it and the paint doesn't get on your finger.
"She wanted a mountain scene on the outside because she wanted to trick people, and when you go into her room it's underwater themed" had me rolling, that's some good shit
Linus, I'm glad your husband and wife get along. It's so refreshing to see such a wonderful trio couple. I can't believe Jake has so much input in the house build, it's funny but cool to see he has someone so close.
I love cooking and while a double oven like they have would be great maybe once a year (Thanksgiving), I don't think it'd be worth it to me. That said, they make double ovens that are standard size ovens but instead of a storage/broiler at the bottom the normal sized oven goes down to the floor and there's a smaller oven on top and that is what I got and it's a godsend. So I totally get wanting multiple oven spaces, I just think THAT much extra oven is overkill every time I see it. Of course, maybe I just think that because I've got a smallish kitchen.
I absolutely love how you're getting the kids input for their rooms, even though you know full well tastes will change and they'll want to redo it down the line. I never even got to paint my own room as a kid unless I was willing to buy my own paint.
@@CockatooDude My room was covered in unfinished plywood panels. I don't think it makes a kid insufferable to actually have the remodeling of their room be finished. But you keep on just being an insufferable jackass.
I know it’s been a year since this came out but I’m still crying laughing at the way Yvonne and Linus react when Jake says “do you think it works” when both Linus and Yvonne are showing off the double shower😂
I love how they seem to lag when they keep turning on faucets and realizing that there's no sink! you can tell both Jake and Linus are still the uncontrollable button pressing kids at heart.
The previous video about your house moving and this one actually showcase really really well what having a relationship, having a family and, especially, having a house together, can be at its best. :') Thank you Linus and Yvonne. Maybe I'll work harder to find the one who wants to share her life with me.
19:05 I agree that the wall paint have a blue undertone, I think Yvonne have the same taste for white color that I have, a little of yellow to make more pleasant, cold colors looks kinda depressing. Huge fan of off white. You can kinda mask it if you use 4000K bulbs.
I'm sure this is before that, and I can say that because this is the video where Jake learns about how bad the paint is, which was referenced in that one stream they linked in the video. I do love sick Linus content though
Jakes face at 4:16 is hilarious. That exact reaction should be put on a mouse pad or something. I love how it feels like Jake has become an adopted brother. Let's see how many buttons we can push to annoy them lol. Love the videos and love the house :)
So I'm a painter by trade and when I see those tape lines it drives me nuts cuz Linus is right about the issue cuz they should have peeled the tape like 10 minutes or so after they painted originally or they should have just never taped it in the first place and just cut it in with a 2in angled brush like Linus said
I didn't realize how integral to the overall success of LMG Yvonne was. For some reason I thought she was just the wife in the background. My mind was blown to learn she coordinated everything behind the scenes. Shout out to the wives of the world.
There's a video where Linus talks about Yvonne. He's basically the face but she's the one who keeps thr lights on. He said her disappearing would have a much greater impact on LMG than Linus disappearing.
19:10 I do see a blue undertone, blues usually make whites brighter and makes them pop more, but there could've been an issue with the mixture, as when mixing paint you have to account the light level in the room to mix the proper amount of blue. or camera just didnt capture it right i got no idea
I also see a blue undertone. Some laundry detergents for whites have a blue dye that makes the clothes look brighter. In the case of that specific wall it's too blue, so it overpowers the white.
I'm sure that Jake gets compensated well enough for his work, but especially hearing about how he managed all the contractors I think that whole project would have been a total mess without him given the small amounts of time Yvonne and Linus actually have available
18:46 Modern fridges often do need to have free space on both sides otherwise they may overheat. I replaced mine a year ago and I had to change a kitchen counter to account for that free space. Check in manual. :)
Man I really appreciate that they let their kids choose what they want in their room, I remember growing up and not having the opportunity to choose the colours or the style of my own room, it's really nice to see parents giving their kids creative freedom, big ups.
I'm sure you've been told this before, but in all my time being an independent hvac contractor, I've realized any contractor that doesn't like it when you stand around and watch is a contractor that doesn't take pride in his work and probably needs to be watched to insure he does the work properly. P.s. Jake's house is coming along nicely now
I just don't like anyone watching over my shoulder. I take pride in my work but the extra pressure to be absolutely sure you're not making a mistake even though you've literally done this thousands of times for years, it's just unnecessary and helps no one. If the homeowner/business owner/caretaker wants to learn how, they can pay me for my time to give them tips and tricks and how-tos on how to get it limping along until I get there, or how to fix it and take care of it right. They don't need to charge a system, but if a coil is burning up and the ace can't cool down, spray it with a hose. If it's dirty brush it off and spray it down being careful to not bend any fins over. If the cooler evap is iced up, how to shut off the condenser either by breaker, t-stat, or disconnect and which way is better when and why. Happy to let them know and it'll help their system and them and me. But I don't need someone hovering and just watching. Learning up front is okay if we're not slammed that day.
@@mikes2381 I'm just genuinely curious about the processes. I usually ask if it's okay to watch, because I find it very interesting to see stuff like that. Usually they'll agree - but I make it very clear that they're free to deny my request at their leisure.
@@mikes2381 my only issue with that is I was trained to invite that added pressure, and although not many people actually like having someone stand over you, to shoo them away seems really bad on the technicians part, I don't charge for extra tips and tricks because that's the kind of service that makes the customer and, by extension, the community you serve like and respect you. A lot of contractors do subpar work and consider themselves professionals, but in my opinion to be a professional is to not only be good at your job, but to assist others in becoming as good as you are. Or at the very least like you said show them enough to help them get their system up and running for long enough for a tech to arrive.

You'll get 70% of that, and if you are lucky you'll get 50% effort in one of the other categories. If they say they are going to show up on Monday and they show up by mid day on Tuesday, it's pretty good.
12:40 I did this at my friends house multiple times banging my head on a light fixture until one time I stood up way faster and shattered the entire thing (it was glass). So yeah it's possible lol
@@racketbear112 I think you would have to see it in person. I mean we are all watching the footage of a camera with a certain white balance on totally different screens.
FYI the lights still have the stickers because they say what you’re legally allowed to install for bulbs and normally leave huge glue marks if you try to take them off! That pool is a great example of everyone compromising until no one is satisfied 😅 I see it all the time in construction! -
Pretty sure the stickers stay on because it is illegal for an installer to remove them. Also there is no law dictating what rating bulb you can install. It is what is advised by the manufacturer for safety reasons. Either fire risk from the heat or because of the gauge of the wiring.
The house is looking great so far, unfortunately dealing with contractor's always seems to be an issue, no matter how good or expensive they are. It use to be you pay good money you get good quality work, but not any more. As long as you can prevent your head from exploding the place is going to look great. BTW, Linus you can even see the blue tint in the video 🤣🤣🤣💙

For the LEDs on the bookshelf, look into WLED. I use that around my house on little micro-controllers. Easier to automate than some individual remote control LED strips.
Dude I was going to suggest the same thing but went looking in the comments to see if someone else suggested it. Definitely check it out if you want to have different zones and use an app instead of a remote. It’s also open source which is another big plus.
Now this is 7 months ago but I kinda doubt Black 3.0 would be a good wall paint, as that very low reflectance is probably due to self shadowing of large/many microfacets, making the paint very, very matte by necessity. This also probably makes it easy to damage/scratch. Not as in scratch it off, but as in scuff up the surface.

What does she do exactly?
Jake is like the oldest child that influences his parents to get things done kind of his way

The hiding of their kids names is great. Children's privacy really needs to be more protected.

Ok
they still hadn't moved in 2 years later? the hell were they doing, rebuilding the entire house?

Yup. Remove the tape while it's still wet for the cleanest lines.
Was literally about to type this too.
After reading the comments here, its so damn wholesome to see how genuinely happy people, including myself, are that you are doing well for yourself.
15:51 You don't leave tape for months, you pull the tape as soon as you're done with the paint job. Or else the tape becomes a part of the wall and will be far much more difficult te remove after you're done.
This was my understanding too. You pull the tape like an hour after painting when its not even fully dry. That way you get clean lines.
@@Taylordtech exactly!

Don’t forget the two kitchens! It’s a LMG host party dream
The thing I'm confused about is I think they mentioned an upstairs and downstairs kitchen.
That sounds like heaven to me
Unless you are baking. You can cook two different things in the same oven just account for the weight of which ever one requires a lower temperature
Soo happy for Linus and Jake with their new house!

Definately blue

Pretty sure the stickers stay on because it is illegal for an installer to remove them. Also there is no law dictating what rating bulb you can install. It is what is advised by the manufacturer for safety reasons. Either fire risk from the heat or because of the gauge of the wiring.
You can get glue remover or "glue goo" remover, which does a good job at removing that stuff. One spray can will last most people ages.
