  • Mercedes S550 Vs Lexus LS 460 review featuring two models with 150k miles. The Benz is a 2015 Mercedes S550 and the competitor is a 2014 Lexus LS 460. Both are AWD and I have done reviews on both: S550: • 2015 Mercedes S550 Rev... LS 460: • Video
    The Mercedes S550 and the Lexus LS 460 are both flagship cars that are at the pinnacle of what both companies can produce. I enjoy driving both cars but when you put them up against each other, the winner becomes quite clear between Mercedes S550 vs Lexus LS 460. Watch to find out.

      Yea it's very useless if you enjoy paying $10,000 for a transmission it's also uselss if you enjoy paying $5k for a brake actuator.
      So yea I guess paying $2-$4k for a warranty is useless I'll just pay full price next time for a new transmission wise advise!

      Sorry that happened to you there are definitely horror stories but with today's day and age with Google I just assumed people could research the dealer and ask ahead what warranty company they work with before proceeding to see if it's reputable.
      I went to a hendrick dealership paid 2k for an Acura TSX for their hendrick autoguard warranty, flawless, they paid out over 6k in repairs and my Acura was actually modified with 3 or 4 modifications no issues. Everyone has different experiences with different companies you unfortunately had the negative kind. Sorry to hear it but hopefully you can learn from it I wouldn't even buy a Honda Accord without a warranty

      the 150K old Benz has to be really cheap for all the priceless high maintenance its built to require vs. the dependable Lexus built for people on a budget.

      If reliability isn’t a part of luxury then the Mercedes’ might have 1 advantage and that’s people advertising , so other than that Lexus LS is either as good or better . The Lexus has more practical option while the Mercedes’ just has a bunch of useless bling factor option that most people doesn’t even know what it is . If someone blindfold you and put you in a Ls you wouldnt be able to tell if your in a s class or a a8 Audi . If you want a smooth ride then the Lexus wins hands down . Thats a category that Mercedes’ can compete in and you’ll ask why ? one reason they have to put air ride in all their s class .. and at the end of the day their air ride system can even compete with Lexus coil spring set up .

    So I know I’m commenting on a video that is a bit old here but I’m gonna say this.. I love my LS460 it is hands down my favorite car I’ve driven but that said there are more comfortable cars out there and yes even the LS460 will break… I bought my 2013 LS460 used at 116,000 miles and it had been neglected mechanically.. visually it’s wonderful but on the interior there were some things that were off and it had some mechanical faults I wasn’t aware of at the time.. 3 months in to my owning the car I had gone on a trip to Houston for a business trip of sorts and also used the trip to take my car in for a service at Northside Lexus off of I45 north well while I was there I had it properly inspected for any little issue it could have and had an oil change done.. I waited 2hrs and got a bill with too many numbers… it was about $10,540 because I needed my suspension replaced and two new rear tires on top of the oil change and interior trim piece I ordered I paid it and got my car back it felt a million times better than before and I fell in love with it again.. on my 5hr drive home I felt comfortable and happy but I ran over a half eaten carcass of what I can only assume was a deer turns out it had ripped my underbody engine cover to shreds and I only realized this when I drove through a big storm and had water pool on the remains of the tray which made it drag on the ground.. I duck-taped it and went on with my life until my battery died in my car and caused the car to trip a bunch of systems forcing the dummy lights on.. it threw a crank position sensor warning so I scheduled an appointment at the closest dealer to me North Park Lexus of Dominion where they are currently as of my typing this are fixing my car by replacing the bumper and under tray piece as well as replacing the spark plugs which were apparently the original spark plugs from when the car was new (according to the service tech that looked over my car) as well as replacing my battery, windshield wiper blades, and my crank position sensor on top of doing a full fluid flush and replacement.. all of this is costing me $2,500 and some change.. and the car isn’t fully sorted yet but it’ll get there eventually in conclusion I love my car more than I probably should but for a 19 year old like myself it is one of the nicest things I’ve ever owned :)

    about that story of the gentleman who had 6 years of non-issue S class , you hear one of those time to time lexus is the oposite instead , the only way for you to test that aspect is own both from brand new and see who brakes sooner , a car reliabilty depends alot of his owner behaviour and maintenance . In the other hand Benz's depreciate alot , that benz lost 5k since who drove it already :DD and reputation is earned so that bulleproofery must not be that consistent . ON the topic about S class feeling way superior to the other mercedes models ,and lexus not having that "magic" thats all on mercedes building crappy cars on the last few years . Here in europe we get the A class in an hatchback format powered by a renault 1.5liter diesel making 100hp and they offer the AMG pack wich has 4 sticks instead of springs and struts , ive got a ride in one and my butt could feel every road crack i dont consider that models worthy of a Mercedes badge , would get myself a corolla or a mazda3 instead of that , so that lack of magic on Lexus its their own fault for making very consistent quality products over the years . AND YES IM A LEXUS SLUT AND I BELONG TO THE STREETS

    I've owned a lot of vehicles over the years and I tend to stick around anything not over 2002 (I'm in the automotive repair business so I know a few things about newer vehicles) newer tech is impressive but def has it quirks and kinks compared to older model vehicles. Im more of a Honda and Toyota/Lexus guy do their incredible reliability (if taken well care of) but I have also owned an 01 s430 and that was an amazing machine as well and well ahead of it time it has tech that it used in newer cars. I drove it to 275k miles didn't leak a drop of oil and engine purred like it was brand new and trans was perfect. One thing about Mercedes is if it's taken care of it's a Fabulous vehicle if neglected it can be your worst nightmare. I miss and loved that s430 yes it had the smaller motor but it was more reliable and dependable than the s500,550 and 600. Currently have my unmolested 97 prelude 100% stock with 150k now and my 93 sc300 with 167k

    Just from the camera noise you can tell Mercedes is a lot quieter inside. Lexus is turning into "golf" or "mazda", except for triple price. Also I think all mercedeses C,E,S classes have really good hydraulic steerings. You can just press a little bit on the steering wheel to change dicretion on the highway. It's that smooth. While on newer cars that electronic wheel assists have stepping motors or something that can't position at desired spot like in hydraulic systems (which are basically analogue).

    I love the RWD LS 460L because it’s different story.. very roomy backseat with the extra cabin space. Also, AWD costs more in labor when doing regular maintenance because it has 2 drivetrains versus a RWD with only 1 drivetrain. So when mechanics change your parts out for you, it’s much more labor to do since there are more mechanical parts in the way such as the front drivetrain. I’d pick RWD with the L any day. It’s just my preference to have the L versus the non L and RWD over AWD. I feel like I’m in a private jet sitting in the back of an LS 460L

    Agree with comment below: older cars regardless of miles get problems. My 1997 LS 400 after 8 yrs: $1600 starter, $1300 power steering leak, new water pump, crack on top of dashboard, electronics/radio developing on/off flashing light glitches, ate brakes and tires every 40,000 miles, 17 MPG means frequents trips to the pump even with 20 gal. tank. Solution: super fast and quiet hybrid, hermetically sealed electronics and interior that never goes wrong.

    I purchase on 12/12 in NJ a new S550 4Matic and it was my 4th Benz starting from C240, C300, E350, and then the S550. I was at the dealership always for ventilation filter which they did not cover but kept making exception that "it was a known issue" but was there for tires and rims and thank God I purchased a separate rim and tire insurance $1,800... my payments on the S550 was $1,100 a month and that is that I put a lot of money down to keep it at this monthly payment. Honest, now I drive a Hoda Fit purchased in 2016 has 24,500K miles, paid it cash and not F^^#ing problems..... happy with no payments and not worried if someone is going to carjack me in traffic..... not worth my time and Lexus is basically a Toyota like the Infiniti Gs are Nizzan...... I'll get a Jeep.....

    The Benz is obviously the superior product from a technology and driveability perspective, and if well maintained isn't the nightmare many people make it out to be. With that said, Lexus is the more reliable car, is cheaper to maintain, and will generally last longer. I'd obviously take the S class if I had the money, but honestly I'd prefer a low mileage 430 over both of these cars. There is just something about that car that, to this day, makes it the best car I've ever driven.
    You're right about the magic factor. The S class feels like you're riding in a piece of engineering perfection, like sitting in a Picasso while you float down the road. The Lexus or 7 series feels like a mass produced consumer product, which it is. That doesn't make it a bad car, it just means you'll never get the same feeling.
    Also, the 460 is much cheaper than the S class of the same year.

    if you side by side the ls drive clip and the Sclass you can instantly tell the Sclass is a bit quieter and smoother down the road over imperfections especially for a livery vehicule as the rims tell. and it also looks crazy good. the LS just as solid but undisputely second.

  • @wmahmoo
    @wmahmoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Love the Sopranos references. Salut. I think that anecdote about the guy putting 200k miles on an S Class with no issues really underscores the fact that you never know how reliable a vehicle will be. Sure, companies have reputations, but between changes in designers, engineers, materials, and plants, you can never know if the variables that made Lexus reliable 10 years ago still exist today. And I totally get the S Class fanboying. I used to go to school by Park Avenue, and I used to gawk at S classes--they're handsome and distinguished in a manner unlike any other non-Bentley/Rolls vehicle is. Having said that, of the two models in this video, I think the LS is a bit better looking, and frankly, more attainable (as a low mileage CPO vehicle). Keep up the great reviews homie.

    I had a BMW 7 Series. It was the vehicle I loved to hate. Once it hit 150,000 miles, it became a nuisance and expensive to maintain. My LS460 that I switched to now has 137000 miles and is as tight as it was when I purchased it. I've never owned a Mercedes S Platform, but my prior experience with the BMW and German vehicles in general always screams high maintenance cost.

    I think it would have been more appropriate and better if the cars had the same interior colors, it is much harder to tell how a leather seat has aged when it is a lighter color, with black it is much much easier to tell (the MB already had a tear, the Lexus just had creases from use over time without proper care.) If it was an LS460L outfitted with air suspension and ML audio as well as the rear seat upgrade it would have been a better side by side comparison but you have to work with what you're given I guess. Either way they're both pretty cars, but to me the Lexus takes the cake, I've driven both of these and in this case I would say yes the MB is a nicer vehicle but the Lexus is a base LS460 AWD, not necessarily a fair comparison, the LS460L on air and with the other upgrades is far nicer than the LS in this video, and I believe it would take the cake against this MB if it had similar mileage. Either way very nice and fair review of these vehicles

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 460l is most comfortable apparently there is some time of molding that needs to be replaced every so often that causes wind noise on the drive side of the LS 460 so after that's done the car should be silent. I find this to be the most comfortable car. The 430 has the smoothest engine.
