What's sad is these people kill each other due to poverty. But never bring harm to corrupt officials that has caused this.

Am from the heart of the ghetto in Clarendon, may pen. I've felt the pressure in the ghetto and I pray to the most high for help and I never stop try....until I started working with Grace Kennedy, then I becomes I police....was not wat I want but it's the only way out. I feel the pain that they are feeling...Jah know, sitting here in Florida now watching this it's is painful to see. Bcuz I was once in the ghetto living

The countryside in Jamaica is overgrown. The land is fertile - in fact virgin because a vast amount of it has not be cultivated for so many years. Jamaican inner city people need to pick up their feet and start walking up the hills to those beautiful lush areas and begin to build a life for themselves. There's land and water that's all you need. build a little bamboo shack, plant a garden eat some sell some and use the money to gradually build a house. There is NO shame in making an effort. Jamaicans need to begin to be self-aware, self-reliant and self-determined. COME ON JAMAICANS - DON'T BE DEFEATED. WHERE THERE IS LIFE, THERE IS HOPE and remember the less fortunate as you progress!!!

Who says this fertile land in the countryside are available for any one to use?...you are mistaken. Many of the "overgrown" landscape are private land.

Plus they need money to get to the country side. But this could be a project the government could think through and develop to help them to at least feed themselves. I believe some would take the opportunity to avoid the pangs of hunger as not everyone in the ghetto has a criminal mindset.

MAUREEN ...YOU USE WORDS "SELF-AWARE, SELF-RELIANT,INDEPENDENT"............these people are at the bottom of the pyramid, you talking as if they are at the top. They lack reading and writing, food, water and shelter and society treats them harshly. So what you are saying is not feasible for them to simply carry out,it is the government's responsiblity to assist its most vulnerable e.g. like the elderly and, disabled

My hope for Jamaica is that it will develop intellectual property, rather than rely on dwindling natural resources, and low-skilled jobs. Look at countries like India and Singapore, both were poverty stricken nations just 2 decades ago, now they are economic forces to contend with. They have managed to do it by growing intellectual capital. India is a more worthy example. There is a system of training the youngest, greenest individuals to learn technologies such as C#, Java, X++, SAP, AX - you name it. There is an apprenticeship mentality among the companies of this countries. It allows them to make big money in the West while feeding their families in the East. My hope is that Jamaica will one day be among the countries that reverse their economic state.

    • @chukkachick1879

Exactly. They did the same thing when they came to Jamaica with nothing as indentured labourers in the 19th c. India has a hustler, or mercantile culture. They had it before they were colonized by the British. That cultural mentality is like gold. It means that they are not psychologically inclined to sit and wait for anything from the state.

It's all to do with doing anything to get the next generation the education so that they are better off(even if it is only by small marginal advancement). Should always put education on the top of the agenda!
My gf is Jamaican(born n bred) and she has 3 lovely nieces(one 5 year and one-year-old twins). When I visit her yard I get really annoyed by the little effort her sister put into her 5-year-old daughter's education. Jamaican need to focus on their children's education more and this will make sweet Jamaica prosperous. ]
That one Jamaican mum on the documentary has a great mentality of saving money for her children's school-related thing.
I hope Jamaica become prosperous like Singapore one day.

Every family and communities need to work together to invest in growing food. The government cannot legislate common sense, something we can do for ourselves. For example: It does not hurt to save the save seeds from foods; tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. If you have no money at least have food. Grow your food. Returning to our country properties work. People who live in the country always have food and are healthy. If you do not grow your food your health suffer; learning decrease, homelessness increase, etc.

One thing I had to note and I hate to judge but when the lady in the orange shirt was talking about how hard life is and she has to sell her body i noticed a couple of things. Everyone around there is likely poor and will tell you the same story about hardship, but the lady next to her was rolling her weed and the one in the orange shirt had one false nails(yes some of them popped off). My point is...they are spending money on their hair, nails, and weed which is money that could have been better spent.

She has to look a certain way at nights.. The weed smoking, assuming the girl beside her does the same work. Prostitution is not an easy job. I really like and agree with what I-Nation had to say @25.30, he hit the nail on the head! Poverty IS a state of mind and many poor people recreate poverty and perpetuate it. The sooner we get into the minds of these 'poor' people, empower them and encourage them to change their attitudes, educate and teach them how to help themselves as opposed to waiting for people to help them, the better! Take a look at what happened in Tulsa, Oklahoma, The Black Wall Street!! We truly were running tings with EVERYTHING in that town was Black and had no dependence on anyone else. the Black $ bounced around at least 30 times before it went out of their community!!! Can't we learn from this?
Jamaica is a very rich place and most Jamaicans are sitting in their own acre of diamonds, but are blind to it. Wake up Jamaicans, WAKE UP! There is plenty of fertile land where almost ANYTHING can grow, get to work - grow what you eat and eat what you grow!!
I see the same shit on the other islands and I believe this problem is region-wide, which tells me it has little to do with individual nations, but moreso the mindsets and attitudes of the people of that nation - Black people, as well as the crooks running it! I don't like to admit it but the truth is we are our worst enemy!!
The only way out that I see is Personal Development, not God or the church or religion, as it's religion that started this whole mess in the first place!! #JamaicaFixUp #TheTruthAgenda #TimeToFixUP #YouLearnYouGrow #TheBlackWallStreet #PDis4Me #LearnBlackWallStreet #GrowWhatuEat #DJMrP #TCTK

It is not easy and correct me if I am wrong, back in the 60's, 70's keeping a dance was one of the ways poor people provide food 4 fmly send kids to sch but, there was a lot of bridges permit was needed to keep this dance on ur premises also to sell food, liquor etc remember u have no money you are trying to make money if you don't have these requirements the police comes in beat the people take away the soundsystem the food.. dance done.. your hopes go down the drain (2) you try to sell food from off your tree that also can be confiscated, It is not easy but not impossible.

Here in Canada, there is a decent safety net. Yet we have poor people. You cannot/ must not depend on any government to eliminate poverty. Government can and should provide access to education and training.
We also need to take some responsibility for our living experiences.
Education and training is the only way out.

Jamaicans are powerful they are the seed of Jacob, more specifically The Tribe if Judah. We are unstoppable if we are educated on who we are and most importantly WHO’S we are. WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE❤️

Why are there so many obese women? @25mins in , I - Nation hit the head on the nail. I'm from rural Jamaica and I've never seen the levels of poverty as I've seen in Kingston and Spanish town.

    • @TheDJMrP
      @TheDJMrP 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I really like what I-Nation had to say @25.30, he hit the nail on the head!

What I can't understand is the way how this person narrating is painting this picture that these Jamaicans are suffering and starving but at the same time he is not aware of the same persons talking about being hungry and broke with the false hair cell phone nails done how did they afford these items when they are starving why not interview the wider range of people that are really broke and hungry instead strong young men that can go cut some ones lawn or wash cars to make money but instead chose to sit on corners wasting time smoking weed

Jacqueline Taffe. While you make a great suggestion. I don't think Bitcoin is a great approach for this situation. Firstly it's a very volatile stock and it fluctuates so fast the poor people would die with just the news of losing $800US in one day. For that reason it's not a valid venture for people who can't take extreme risk.

Please let's stop looking at the government as a solutions - in most cases they creates poverty and more problems. Think about setting up small businesses, start small with what you have and where you are. Salary slaves creates its on problems.

As a Jamaican with 1st hand experience, some pple are self reliant and some dont want to and prefer the hand-out/political delusion or criminal /larceny mentality. They dont use social/education amenities. Generations of negative habits to be broken. They think because dem in the ghetto theres no way out unless as an artiste - if talented. Sad.
