I think they just want it based in the USA . So content makers can sue for monetary damages when people repost someone's content as their own. Everyone's private info is already out there on the web somewhere.

My dystopian future is your taxed to the point of near poverty even though you work +40hr a week. And the police are defunded to the point of inaction and not restructured and retrained so they don't do things like shoot acorns or poor Folk, or people with mental issues or people's dogs.
And all the while never looking at root causes.

Whenever I don't see kids playing outside, I think about this all the time. However, social media has its benefits, including keeping in touch with family and friends who no longer live nearby, finding solid information and support for any number of issues, and quite frankly, it's a great source of news and information that bypasses so many mainstream filters and thus showcases the reality behind current events.

Yeah, we know U.S. companies certainly aren't angling to "acquire" a competitor. I get the potential security issues, but let's not fool ourselves into belieiving this is the main driver behind this legislation. China still owns plenty of our assets, and many U.S. companies utilize a lot of it for their own benefit. Money talks, obviously.
People advertising on tiktok is irrelevant, its not being banned, its being sold to USA ownership and personal data of Americans is therefore not going to Chinese Communist Party if the sale goes through.
