  • "Lost Honor" is a video designed to help prevent sexual assault within the Marine Corps, developed by the Marine Corps Defense Services Organization (DSO). It is meant to be watched and then used as a discussion tool, guided by select non-commissioned officers using the discussion guide available on the DSO's website: www.hqmc.marines.mil/DSO. This particular video and its accompanying discussion guide are offender-focused, as several of the other sexual assault prevention training programs are victim-focused.

    My staff sergeant at the recruiting office explains very well that once you earn the title of Marine, you are always a Marine. Even getting drunk and taking advantage of another Marine is misconduct. Once you earn that title, you live towards it. A Marine should hold honor, discipline, and respect.

      But did he? I don’t know, I wasn’t there. After hearing 1 side only, it sounds like a couple of drunk kids playing around, not a sexual assault. I’m inclined to say the Marine who was let in, let in to her bed, isn’t guilty of jack sh!t. It sounds like a classic case of she regretted it after consenting, now his entire life is ruined.

      OnePermutation it's because people will almost always see men as the villain and women as the victim. You can sometimes see glimpses of this when you look at the way people look at man watching his kids playing in a park vs a woman doing the same.

      Honestly, whoever is the active partner, the one "thrusting" is the one committing the act. The other (in this case a female Marine) may be too drunk to resist. Normally the man is the one acting--but you better believe that if the woman is "on top" or otherwise making the moves while the male is unable to resist, then the female would be the assailant. One of the Marines in this video, was in fact female. Email me if you are still confused.

      you just answered your own question. "both parties are drunk" Both parties lost honor. As far as I"m concerned if both were drunk and both consented, they both should lose. It does seem an inequity for only the men to suffer the repurcussions, but then again as men, we bear the responsibility of being men. Then again as the documentary shows, ain't just the men doing the crime. Women are being convicted as well.

      There is no doubt that this video should be shown during the training of military recruits no matter what division in what army in the world that such recruits have chosen to join. Being dishonourably discharged (or as Britain’s equivalent to the US Marine Corps put it, “dismissed with disgrace”) is a great shame, but totally preventable. Anyone dishonourably discharged from the military has almost always been convicted of a violent criminal offence (or otherwise convicted of a serious criminal offence such as fraud).

I wrote up 2 women caught in the act. 1 was UA as assigned Duty NCO when the duty list was posted over 4 weeks in advance and she did not follow established procedure. The other woman was caught with booze in the barracks and men in her room well beyond after established hours. They both complained of overfamiliarity. Both got tossed for making false official statements. (pre Gulf War era).

The fact that everyone focuses on male vs. female sexual assault is troubling. Much like PTSD, Military Sexual Assault is difficult for those suffering from it to come forward. make a documentary of women who falsely accuse men of sexual harasment

    • @gbencarling
      @gbencarling 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Just saying, rape has the exact same level of false reporting as any other crime against a person. False reports of burglary, assault, battery, and attempted murder all have similar levels of false reporting--around 3-5%. The media often reports false reporting of rape because it is newsworthy--it's making the news because it is noteworthy, unusual, etc. Also, don't forget that the vast majority of reported sexual assaults in the Department of the Navy (of which Marines are a part) don't even make it to court martial--usually for lack of evidence. This doesn't mean that it didn't happen, or that the victim made it up--just that there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute. That is another matter that leads to the assumption, like yours, that women make up these reports.

      Why are people talking about rape?! He said SEXUAL HARASSMENT! There is a big difference between the two. Rape reports aren't as reported as other charges. THAT is true. What ISN'T true is the same being for sexual harassment. Those type of charges are extremely common, and many of them are dismissed because it they were either false accusations or not enough to make a good claim.
      I hope that none of these prisoners are in jail because a false claim was believed.

    How to avoid Sexual Assault:

      Don't rape! Why should the women try and do something when sole responsibility lies the perpetrator?

    • @copsforfertilizer
      @copsforfertilizer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kassthered8452 I agree but there is some truth to his statement. There are definitely certain precautions that can be taken to avoid a situation like that from happening. Nothing extreme like out right avoiding bars and social setting out of fear of an assault. Rape can happen anywhere after all. More along the lines of going out with a group of trusted individuals, preferably of the same sex. Never going to the restroom alone. Being responsible in your alcohol intake. Carrying some sort of protection such as mace. Educating people on sexual assault is important but we live in a world were some people truly do not care. Empathy is not a trait that everyone of us can retain. In a perfect world those precautions wouldn't be necessary and no one would assault anyone. But in this day and age, teaching people not to rape just isn't enough. You have to teach people to take precautions, analyze certain situations where a rape is likely to happen, and excersises steps to remove themselves from the situation safely. It's always better to be safe than to be sorry.

      That percentage quote comes from a New York Times. 53 percent was applied to measure the 26000 military personnel that complained that they had received unwanted sexual contact and about half of those cases were done by men. That would mean that out of 5 people assaulted, almost 3 were homosexual. This could be an good indicator that there might be a link between sexual aggression and homosexuality. Of course, in the over all fact, we can't escape the fact that out of the total military population, that 53 percent case is only half of the 26000 which would be 0.5 * 26000/3.5 milion or 0.3 percent of the total population. So still yet relatively a very small problem in the military. Of course, if there is a link between Homosexuality and rape then increasing gays into the military could actually create a larger problem over time.

    • @ickekoep
      @ickekoep 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      wtf? homosexuality is not equal to sexual assault among men. Homosexuality is not linked to rape. Power entices to rape, solitude plants it as a thought. Your thinking will create the largest problem for the world society, period, and it is called: homophobia.

      Allegations of rape must always be investigated and wrongdoing that is proven punished appropriately. Martin Toney, at one time a colonel in the British Army, was late last year dismissed with disgrace because he'd been convicted of having in 2012 groped and humiliated a then-junior female soldier by having kissed her and grabbed her butt. The incident in question had occurred at a ski chalet in a village in the southern interior of Norway albeit to the northwest of Oslo.

    guaranteed all these cases were legit consensual sex between two drunks. Regret is not rape. If drunken status waves the magic wand for women being "incapable of knowing what's going on", it should also work the same for the man. Both are drunk, when there's no force, no violence, or coercion, it needs to get thrown out. Rape is a serious, vicious thing but feminists wield it like a toy and encourage women to fling it around with a nonchalant, casual attitude.

      Coercion can be physical intimidation, with or without words. The sheer size of the person initiating the act is also applicable to whether the other person felt threatened. Instead of flight or flight, scientists have determined that "freeze" is the response of 50% of most people who are assaulted. So, if the partner is NOT enjoying it (yet not screaming and punching)...one does not have a "sexual partner," but a frozen/silently intimidated person he/she is assaulting. Whether or not the person realizes it's an assault in another discussion.

I was just out of boot camp when this happened and I have never gotten over this horrible event! I support what is being done about sexual assult and I hope they never stop persuing the sexual assulters.

    This is why people should NOT drink to the point of access. Also, we know that a woman is NOT responsible for her actions when she is intoxicated. The man is always responsible for his actions. Do I agree with that? NO! We all NEED to have personal responsibility for what we do. I say this as a retired Army Chaplain and former NCO. I have counseled many Soldiers on making sure they avoid situations that would get them into trouble. We all know once an accusation is made, you are guilty until proven innocent in this climate. My biggest problem is both parties engage in RECKLESS behavior, but only one is responsible for their actions and the other is NOT.

    Reading all those comments commands a reaction. As a civilian, I do think military personnel is entitled the same penalties as regards to sexual abusers. The issue you mostly raise is false accusation. In the case of both party drinking, the supposedly "abused" person (mostly women) is systemically believed to be a victim unless proven wrong. A few years back, in France, a teacher was accused of wrongful sexual contact on one of his young female students; the mother pressed charges. The man's life was annihilated and he committed suicide as he couldn't bear the situation. After a year-long investigation, it was proven that this sexual assault was a setup to get revenge for the mother's girl having bad grades... A petty revenge that brought a massive destruction to one person and his family. So, yes it's sad to see people abusing others. Yes, I feel so sorry for these young soldiers in the Video to get their lives destroyed. They might have done wrong, they got intoxicated and cannot remember doing the irrevocable. Should they be treated differently to us, I don't think so. the major issue here is most of our young soldiers when entering the army think they're invincible, beyond laws. The army needs better training about those risks...

      You gotta understand it’s not like they went out there and stalked anyone or prayed upon someone. Both parties knew one another had to much to drink and the guy made a move on her and she never said anything until it was to late. That’s the worst. Now if he forced his way on her and she’s clearly not consenting to it and fighting him off than that’s a whole different story. Thank goodness when I was in the navy that I didn’t mess around with other sailors.

    I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. When I noticed their collars were light, I knew they weren't the victims.
    Side note,, when I was in Iraq (Camp Fallujah), I got friendly with a female Marine. One day we were alone in her office and she pushed me up against a wall and started kissing me. I was cool with it, and we actually started dating. We broke up soon after I discharged (honorable), due to it being a long distance relationship.
    The reason I mentioned this is because I would have never pulled that move on a female Marine. She obviously felt emboldened, and wasn't worried about any repercussions. Had I not been into her, I know I still wouldn't have reported it. Society has set up these double standards. Men are the aggressors, and women are the victims. This is so ingrained in our way of thinking that back then, I never would have thought that what she did was inappropriate... it was though.
    On the bright side, I spent the rest of my deployment getting laid... it was pretty awesome. Again, it was a bad move on her part, but it got me through a tough deployment. Take from that what you want, not sure if there's a message in there somewhere.

    I do not agree with making the addresses of convicted sex offenders public, but do agree with the need for such offenders to have to register. The federal sex offender registry in my homeland (Canada) is not open to the public even if the names contained in that registry have made news headlines before. Police services across that country do (and should) have access to that registry to make investigating crimes easier. A lot of sex offenders on the national registry will have to register for a very long time, perhaps for life, depending on the nature of their conviction(s).

    I agree with the need for sex offender registries to whose details law enforcement agencies in that jurisidiction have access. Such agencies should be required to provide such info to companies if such companies need to conduct vulnerable sector checks (e.g. hiring anyone to work as a teacher, tutor or bus driver). Making a registry available to the public goes too far because doing so unfairly stigmatizes such offenders, although local enforcement agencies should warn members of the public about violent offenders when there is clear evidence that is presented by correctional authorities that such warnings are required.
    Sex offender registries can be found in at least some English-speaking UN member states in the West, among them Canada, Britain proper and Australia (at least of details of child sex offenders). The requirement to register as a sex offender can range from a determined time period to having to register for life.
    Some sexual offences come with the possibility of life imprisonment. Under the Criminal Code of Canada (my homeland), I am aware of only one (aggravated sexual assault) whose maximum penalty is life imprisonment. Rape in English law comes with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment although I am not aware of any cases tried in England or Wales that have resulted in life sentences. Canadian criminal law allows prosecutors to seek dangerous offender designations against defendants convicted of any sex offence, although normally such orders are only granted if:
    - prosecutors can beyond a reasonable doubt prove that neither a long-term offender designation nor determinate sentence is warranted AND
    - the offence in question is otherwise one whose maximum is determinate instead of life

    There is drunk and there wasted out cold. If you are both drunk and one says no then that's rape. If you don't say anything and uncomfortable then that's on you. Even if you feel intimidated say no and be clear. When you get drunk you are expected not to drive and you can say no. That goes for both genders.

An intoxicated woman is more at risk of being a victim of crime...and an intoxicated man is more likely to do stupid things...including committing certain crimes.It's not rocket science.

    The line is so thin. It’s scary. My brother used to say “Don’t deal with those F Marines when you enlist”. I’ve been in situations similar to them. In the room with a woman who drove over, your buds leave the room, etc. It seems like things are getting started and after you’ve started she asks about a con. She may even still be in the position, hadn’t moved, hasnt gotten up or moved away from you, but the minute he/she says anything contrary to what the original plans were, that’s when you stop. Even if in reality, she would have been ok with it, stop. She may not be ok with it now but be ok with it next week…you have no control over that, just move on. You can see how much the lines are blurred and you give up your credibility the minute you take a sip of alcohol.

    This is why I've ALWAYS....I repeat Always allowed the female to be the assertive one . I've never pursued a female beyond her desire , literally to the point of making sure everything that was happening was her intention. Even when drunk..... Hopefully these folk learn from this horrendous mistake that will be with them their entire lives . I actually no longer drink because of stupid choices I've made while intoxicated . I've fought a cop, well actually egged a cop car then kicked him . How idiotic does that tell you I was... I respect police when I'm sober and appreciate their services . When I sobered up in the back of the car I couldn't believe I did what I did.... I even apologized to the officer , not because I was in cuffs and in the back of his cruiser but because I assaulted a policeman who goes out everyday and has to worry of criminals shooting him , taking his life . Such a stupid mistake I made that night , I literally have lost all desire to drink and was disgusted with myself for kicking that officer . To this day I'm truly sorry to that officer for wasting his time that night . When he's probably faced with danger on a constant day to day basis there is some dumb drunk throwing eggs at his car , only to kick him afterwards . Thank you to all police officers who are true to their motto of protecting and serving their communities... I pray for your safe return home each night and day .
