What a great conversation, Janey! Great way to start my day. What a great representative Marshall is. Thanks for asking about when we can get PW plants here in California and other states. Happy to hear that they’re working on it. In the meantime, we can still order directly from Proven Winners and now Garden Crossings! You are truly in your element. Your enthusiasm is so infectious. You are a delight to watch 🌻

This was a great video. I glad to know more about Proven Winners. We are very fortunate to live close to Creekside Nursery in Dallas, NC. Year before last, we were short a few of one kind of Proven Winner flowers we bought there, so we ran to a big box store that is closer to us, thought oh, we only need two more. We sure learned the difference in the Proven Winner plants we got from Creekside. The root system was so much healthier. The roots were beautifully white and plump. We have now seen with our on eyes the difference. We look forward to our visits to Creekside!

Wonderful interview he is also so passionate about what he does at two things I live in the Malibu zone we still don’t get PW. But while listening to your interview I couldn’t help but see the guy behind you watering the concrete where I live in California we can still only water three days a week for 10 minutes and your whole interview that guy was watering the concrete i’m sure there was a reason for it still tugged at my heart don’t waste that water.

Glad you included California; and I heard him mention Malibu. However, California has so many ranges - like Malibu, cool sea breezes, which is in So. California. Then there's the Inland Empire, which is also So. California, which is where I live (Ontario). And I'm glad you mentioned "why don't garden centers where I live provide Proven Winners?" There are 3 main garden centers in my area and every so slowly PW's are beginning to appear...very slowly. Please Proven Winners, keep working with major garden centers to provide us with more PW. So far I'm seeing supertunias and some superbenas - not all of the wonderful colors PW's puts out but some. I am the proud mom of several supertunias and they are awesome, even in the Inland Empire - as long as the get watered they are happy. One of them was getting leggy (I missed watering one day) and I got brave and cut the leggy part off. You should see the size of the new leaves and flowers. It's like a different plant - leaves are so large as is the flower. So, don't be afraid to cut them back if they do get a little leggy on you. Yeah, Proven Winners! And, thank you for coordinating with PW and this video!

I think Lowes are still doing this but you can return any of your plant pots, plastic tags and the trays to them. They accept this material even if you purchase them at other stores. When Lowes receive new plants they pick up plastic pots etc. Quite often your local nurseries will accept pots back you purchased from them. Helps to recycle.

  • @claudiaceleste777
    @claudiaceleste777 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m in Australia, and have numerous plants from PW. I habitually keep the plant tags of whatever I place in the ground for later reference, and it was after I started watching a certain YT channel up in Oregon about four years ago, I was so certain I’d seen those labels before; sure enough they were in my garden. Some I’d bought from Bunnings (a big box store here in Australia), some came from small, independent retailers. They’re out there, and I just found they have an online store though I haven’t used it yet. It looks like their main focus in Australia is primarily low water needs, high heat tolerant perennials plants - think Evolvulus Blue My Mind, Buddleja Buzz series, Day Lilies, but I did notice Heurchera Coral Bells, Cosmos Choca Mocha, Superbells, supertunias Vista Silversbells more, so l look forward to the more extensive availability come Spring! Just search Proven Winners Australia if you’re local!

Really am enjoying this interview Janee! Thanks for sharing this with us. So funny that he describes Southern CA as easy to grow in and Malibu lol. I'm about an hour and a half inland from Malibu in the high desert with temps up to 115F in the summer and down to 15-20F in the winter. I also have clay soil lol. Soooo hard to find proven winners, but I've been testing out the ones I can find in my climate. Currently have: Supertunia Bordeaux, Luscious Lantana Pina Colada, Lemon Coral Sedum and Sparkling Amethyst Superbena. Interested to see how they handle the heat in the next few weeks and how they overwinter. And sooo excited too see Proven Winners plants become more accessible as time passes! :)

Great interview Janey! If Proven Winners is going to get into houseplants, we REALLY need more interesting low light plants. In the Seattle area, it is dark here in the winter, so having houseplants for low light would be awesome and really cheer us up during our gray winter. Also, you can take your used pots back to Lowe's or Home Depot. They both take them back and recycle them!

Janey, thanks so much for this segment. Iam in awe of what PW has grown into from humble beginnings. Personally, I would like to know if PW is willing to take a look at promoting native plants? Don't get me wrong, I like my "exotics" and my hybrids as much as the next guy, but increasingly, I am getting into a more "multi-dimensional" approach in my garden. I want my garden to also go to work preserving threatened birds and pollinators. I am not the only gardener, who thinks like this. It seems PW could enhance it's brand if it became a leader in native plants as well. Or am I simply being a naive hippie? I believe there really is room in home gardens to raise natives alongside roses and petunias. Inclusivity is a good thing?🙂🙂💚💯

I’m in Southern California and have ordered PW on line and bought a few at the big box stores. I have not been impressed with the performance of any of them. They just don’t live up to the hype. As a Floridian, I agree. I bought a PW salvia and a random brand salvia at my garden center a few months back (it was actually by mistake, I thought both were PW but when I realized, I was already paying and thought oh well!)... Turns out the no name brand has done way better. I believe Janey and everyone else who rave PW so I'm sure our quality is because they haven't had the capacity to grow plants that thrive in our areas. I'm excited that it's in the pipeline because I NEED some of these plants in my garden haha!

OK, I'm sure they are everything he claims, and I love the PW website. I've purchased live plants twice from PW and both shipments arrived in less than pristine condition and died shortly thereafter. It could have well been my brown thumb, but my plants do better when I purchase from a local nursery.

We completely agree - a local nursery or garden center is the best option always! The plants we do put in a box are beautiful, but shipping can definitely be hard on them as much as we keep improving our packing, watering and timing.

We work with Ed Sobkowich in Grimsby, ONT - they sell only wholesale, but they've got a beautiful garden you can visit if you give them a call.

Please tell them to send more supertunia vistas to Oregon!!! I can’t buy them. I spent $50.92 for three 4-inch vistas from Crossings. Yikes!

I wish this was a live show I would have liked to ask if the Chinese spotted lantern fly is the bug effecting the demise of my superbells I’m losing them one by one since these bugs appeared

Hi. I assume you live in the NE. I live in PA next to the county where they were first spotted. I haven’t heard of them affecting any types of flowers.

I've not heard of that either - the biggest culprit is too much water on Superbells. If you're soil is wet, let it dry out completely before watering again.

Oh, my goodness Janey! This was a fabulous interview! Mr. Dirk is so much fun - so down to earth - and so passionate about people and their plants! It makes me want to go to work for Proven Winners! I am already a customer but being S. CA I rarely find PW plants at my local nurseries or big box stores. I found two small annuals last week and was over the moon! Janey, YOU make these videos so much fun! Thank you for all you do!!!

While living in Ohio years ago I was introduced to Proven Winners through Supertunia Vista Bubble Gum and could buy so many other options. I now live in Georgia and it is so difficult to find anything here. Nurseries as well as big box stores don’t even seem to know about the particular plants I am asking for when I contacted PW about shipping me plants the shipping cost was more than the plant cost just not feasible for me. I desire to be able to purchase huge annual hanging baskets as we are seniors and they are so much easier for us.

I really enjoyed hearing from Marshall, heś a kick - love his enthusiasm! Iḿ happy that PW is concerned about going as green as possible and the philosophy of keeping an open mind with the willingness to learn and change.
