You might want to check Linda Vater’s videos for the source of her rain barrel she put in her back yard. She had it painted which you could do to match your color palette.
Once the area around the pomegranate is cleaned up and all the rocks and watering tube are removed or cut down, that will be a lovely little tree in the perfect place in your garden. Hopefully, you will give it a year to prove itself before removing it...
Keep your pomegranate tree! It will be so worth it! Will good care, you will have the most delicious pomegranates and the jewels are great in a charcuterie spread and in guacamole.
Hi Janey, could you put more cardboard down on a new section and have your compost delivered directly on top? Then just spread out with a rake? Just a thought
Beautiful! Two suggestions: Purchase a chipper shredder to get rid of a lot of your tree debris and add to your compost piles. When you put up the rain gutter how about a rain barrel? If you need a rain gutter, you might as well collect the water for your raised beds. There is a solar pump you can put on the rain barrel.
Looking good Janey!! You put your inspirational adrenaline to work. Your pomegranate will bloom a beautiful orange, why not wait a season and see what it does before you decide.
Love when I have days like this, which are fewer and far between unfortunately. Just a tip… I do AR/AP for a manufacturing company and we have a lot of cardboard that gets damaged and we can’t use it. We pay to have it hauled away so we love when people approach us and want to take it. Look for manufacturers in your area that make large products and box them. The larger the products the larger the boxes and they will not have tape on them as they haven’t been used.😊Most of the damages that we discard are mostly cosmetic and compromise the box very little.
Consider removing the garden stone from the bottom of the pomegranate tree for a cleaner look. I would leave this tree it another year to see if you like it when the garden is more developed.
Great video, so glad yall got some help. This is a huge garden space. It's looking soooooo beautiful. I felt the happiness in your little voice. I hope you can take a day off. You have been so very busy for months, saling and buying a home. Packing ,Moving, painting, and gardening hard. I absolutely love your channel. ❤❤❤❤
Your inspiration and motivation are always contagious in these videos! So exciting! You are wonderful. Great job to Jason and friends too! We all appreciate a helping hand!
Good Morning Janey ☀️ I’m so happy that you made your video. Yes, I watched Matthew in his garden too. I want to start my backyard with the compost and cardboard. Janey you are very inspiring. Wow! Jason and friends did a wonderful job in the garden, nice to have some helpers. I can see why your were motivated. The plants look a lot happier in the ground. 😁🌈🏠🌴
Since you are planning on taking out the ring of fruit trees you should go ahead and start on that. I noticed in the backed up shot in the video that the trees are blocking that beautiful view of your espalier! You could start with pulling out the stakes...maybe even just cut the trees down to the ground and not worry about digging out the stumps next spring.
Wow, what a lot you've gotten done! Really enjoyed the video. I'm rooting for the pomegranate tree and hoping it proves its worth in your landscape. I think the blossom and fruit colors would complement and echo the colors in the plantings behind you at minute 19:12, the oranges, and the new plantings near it in this video. Plus, as you've mentioned, the fruit would be great for projects and eating. The trees you limbed up looks so much better. I didn't know lime trees suckered. I learn so much from your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I would definitely keep the pomegranate tree. They are beautiful in bloom, and the fruit is so good for you. I wonder if you would like it more if you took out the stone bed edge and just put down some cardboard and compost around it instead? I think that would look much better.
A garden is where God put man at the beginning so it goes without saying it's meant to bring you joy and enthusiasm to work it. So reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one who keeps beautiful plants in their pots patiently awaiting me to catch up with my gardening "to do" list! And when it comes to gardening in the powdery dry soil you're dealing with on your new property, Janey, whatever works buy it! Simply unreal how quickly you've turned your property around and made it your own! Original owners wouldn't recognize it! And, if those metal planters you are using were within the reach of my budget I'd set one up in my patio in a minute for some of my potted plants (I have about 100 various sizes). Also, thrilled that you're going to bat for us with Proven Winners - "us" being Californians - and be sure to include Zone 10-11, pleazzzzz. I feel so excited when I see what Proven Winners offers but then feel so neglected when there rarely are Zone 10-11 in area garden centers.
Thanks for mentioning that you have help with your garden. Sometimes I get a tad frustrated when watching all the garden shows and think why can't my stuff look like that? Duh .... drip irrigation, and help. So I'll just keep working along doing my best and get help from watching your videos. I ordered ollas to put in my Pinky Winky standard and my weeping spruce. Fingers crossed they work and help keep these two watered. Have a great day.
Hi Janey! I loved seeing your trip south and all the plants. You have the dream job with Proven Winners! I’m an outdoor plant gal but after seeing that I have to have a couple or so of those indoor plants. You and Robbie get me in so much trouble. Lol Loved the last trip you two went on and all the junk he picks up to add to that garden place. Even noticed old doors on the ceiling. Awesome trip. You’re just having to much fun at your new house and so are we watching all you do. Can’t wait to see all you come up with a d more fun adventures with you and Robbie. Thanks for bringing us along with it all!
Janey, limbing up and shaping citrus is the name of the game. They are hardy and very forgiving in my experience. So go for it! I might even limb them up higher so you can see more of their trunks. I would definitely keep the pomegranate for now. It appears to be healthy and has a beautiful shape. You have so few taller plants right now, it adds to your space. I really just hate removing mature plants. 🙁
Everything is looking so beautiful so far! I think it’s a good idea to make the walkway wide because as time passes and plants grow the walkway will naturally get smaller.
Agree, I recently watched another gardening show, and she indicated one of her mistakes was not to make her paths wide enough, so two people could easily walk side by side.
Zone 3 Canadian here. Am enjoying watching your new gardening journey so much. A year ago we had to sell our beautiful 1/2 acre property due to my husbands health. We are now in a townhouse where i have no garden at all and have had to fill my gardening wants and needs with houseplants. Its just not as satisfying so i now live vicariously through my favourite online gardeners. Your channel as well as Robbie's and Laura from Garden Answer have all helped fill the void. Thank you.
We moved into our house 2 years ago. Our neighbor has pomegranate trees. I have no experience with them. They are very beautiful when they bloom and then when they turn into pomegranate even prettier. I hope you nurture it for a couple seasons. I sure wish I had garden friends that I could hang out with!
What I do when drilling holes in a new no dig area is I scrap away the new compost and cut the cardboard where I’m going to drill and then drill. This enables me to put my compost back around my plant without the dirt showing too much. Great job! I love what you are doing!
Awww it looks fantastic ! Thank god you had a few people over to help, I always thought omg I wish I lived closer I would be there with my little shovel to help LOL … you have done soooo much in the time you’ve been in your new home, don’t be hard on yourself you are doing amazing !! Now you enjoy the gardens and keep gardening ❤
Wow you did a great job especially with the back! I don't know what you're talkin about pertaining to the wood chips. It looks so good! Right before you said it's not the prettiest ground cover, I was just thinking to myself, Wow! How great it looks. I can see the progress on. And it looks great!
Wow Janey everything is looking so beautiful in such a short time! I spent 2 hours at Green Acres yesterday! 🎉🎉 so much fun! And last week I saw the sale on Deluth site and bought my overalls and they’re arriving today just in time for plant! This video was great inspiration for what I’m doing in my front yard! Thanks again for ALL you do and share with us! Happy Gardening! 🌻👩🏻🌾🪴🌳
Wow 😳 what a difference a bit of compost makes. It's starting to look like a massive flower bed now. So excited to see all the pretty plants in the ground.

It’s so fun to see familiar faces on different channels! Janey I’m so excited for how things are progressing at your place! 👏🍁🇨🇦
You will be starting Spring with so many plants in the ground, the garden will take off! Do give the pomegranate some love and time. They are beautiful trees with flowers and gorgeous fruit. The trimming you did made it look good.
Just fyi, I’ve also used the roll of brown thick paper from home depot that is in the paint department. So glad for you and ALL the progress you and your helpers have made. I know it seems there is a lot left to do, but it is looking beautiful and already a great transformation!
It’s so so much fun watching your home and garden come to life! It’s looking so good and I can’t wait to see some of the hard scape to begin, i.e., gazebo.
We are a family that generally uses Milwaukee tools. However, in my gardening journey I found, similar to you with Ryobi, the cement drill is better for the larger holes and doesn’t hurt my wrists when hitting roots. Definitely worth the cost.
great video, you really did a great job. thanks for sharing. i know about sometimes you just want to take a easy day but, when you seen those beautiful flowers blooming you will be so happy.!!!
Just these small areas are making such a huge difference, I can imagine what it looks like pulling in the driveway, seeing your plans coming together. Make sure when you plan out the path, it isn't too narrow. I just yesterday watched Danielle..northlawn flower farm, she pointed out her 10 mistakes she made starting from scratching 8 yrs ago. Her main path being too narrow was, I believe #1.
I am a full time nurse. And a wanna be Gardener… it always gets me when you say” I hope you had a chance to get in your Garden today”. But nevertheless I always enjoy watching your videos. Thank you 😊
That's good to know I'm in 5B and did not know this. I'm 40 minutes to the Ohio border and I have not been guardeding very long so I did not know I could plant up to the frost date and things would survive. for the most part. I have a greenhouse this year so I am planning on planting veggies in the greenhouse and growing them over the winter under grow lights. I don't know if it will work but I'm going to give it a try.
Hi, Janey: Your garden is coming along nicely!! I hope you don't mind a few ideas. When installing the gutter on the side of your office, I would suggest installing gutters on both sides and bring them around the back and into a rain barrel. That way, you could harvest the rainwater while protecting your raised garden beds on the side from getting washed away. The extra cost of gutters on both sides is worth the rainwater you will be able to collect for your plants. Also, the wood box that you removed from your house (8:20), does that fit on the concrete area just behind your office? I think I would re-purpose that box to be a temporary make-shift potting area. If you wanted to invest some time into it, you could turn it around, so it is open in the front and install some shelving for storing your pots. I hope these two ideas help. Your transformation is going to be beautiful. Glad I'm along for the journey!
If your pomegranates are good keep that tree. My grandparents farm has pomegranate trees and here in California they are way better than any store bought. People came around for fresh pomegranate juice and jelly. They were so sweet she just squeezed them in a cheese cloth. No sugar or anything else added. They were so good eventually trees were planted across the street which helped since people were always stealing them. But grandma would laugh and say, “ if they want some they could have some just let her know, no need to sneak. “😂
I am so behind getting my perennials in, and we're past my average first frost date up here - but luckily this year the forecast is still lows in the 40s for the next several weeks, so hopefully it'll be okay - better in the ground then to freeze in the pots (z 6b)... following Laura from GA who always pushes the limits lol. So you're way ahead of me!! Love all of your plant choices and the progress you've made! 😍
Just what I’ve learned in making my pathways, make sure it’s wide enough for your wagon o whatever you use to transport plants, compost, etc to make your steps into the back to the fence easier.
Good morning Janey, I'm so glad you got help putting the cardboard and compost. It looks so good. The pink bush is so pretty. I can't wait to see it all in the spring.
Everything looks great Janey. So happy you had a good weekend. You made my day today. Jason and his helper did a wonderful job. Thank you my garden friend. !
You so industrious you will have the garden done in front by next summer ☀️. 😍😺. I been thinking about your chipmunks 🐿. I had some little fellows, but I have 2 outside cats, the chipmunks left. May think about that 🤔
Beautiful! The garden is really taking shape and tree trimming looks wonderful too! I am going out to help my son who is coming over with a chain saw to trim up some major trees. I'll be doing the hauling/carrying to the street side of the yard for pick up today. So, breakfast and coffee then working outside!
What is the purpose of painting the fruit tree trunks? What are they painted with? Thanks!
Prevents sunburn. Just plain old latex white paint. It’s a common practice here. 💗
couldn't be colored tree bark color so it doen't stand out????@@DigPlantWaterRepeat

There is a trunk paint by IV Organics. Also comes in a brown and has good benefits for the tree.
When you add gutter, you could add a water catchment barrel at back of office. So exciting to see all the beds you are getting ready . Blessings.
Great idea 💡
You might want to check Linda Vater’s videos for the source of her rain barrel she put in her back yard. She had it painted which you could do to match your color palette.
This is what I came to say! Add a rain barrel with the installation of a gutter!
Once the area around the pomegranate is cleaned up and all the rocks and watering tube are removed or cut down, that will be a lovely little tree in the perfect place in your garden. Hopefully, you will give it a year to prove itself before removing it...
I agree, I love the pomegranate there. It just needs to be polished.
Great observation by a viewer about the need for rain gutters. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to put some rain barrels to work.
Yes, lifting up the canopy looks so much better! Beautiful!

Hi Janey, could you put more cardboard down on a new section and have your compost delivered directly on top? Then just spread out with a rake? Just a thought
Hi! Would you consider putting down a gravel driveway instead of an asphalt one? It’s seems like it would fit your vibe much better. 😊
Beautiful! Two suggestions: Purchase a chipper shredder to get rid of a lot of your tree debris and add to your compost piles.

I love the pomegranate! Wait and see is a good idea--you can always remove it with no regrets.
Yes my pomegranate trees just turned a beautiful yellow orange color and are so beautiful for a pop of color in the fall 🍂🍁🧡

I am in zone 9 in sacramento and I have boxwood hedge and it’s doing fine. South facing front yard. Planted like a fence.
Hi, I'm watching your video again.❤🎉😮😊
You have come such a long way, baby. 😂😂😂. It looks beautiful.
Just what I’ve learned in making my pathways, make sure it’s wide enough for your wagon o whatever you use to transport plants, compost, etc to make your steps into the back to the fence easier.
it's looking good!
LOVE THIS
Good morning Janey, I'm so glad you got help putting the cardboard and compost.
May think about that 🤔
Looks so good!!
Wow… lots accomplished… interesting new plants
Kính chúc chị ngày mới thật vui vẻ và hạnh phúc nhiều sức khỏe trong cuộc sống video rất tuyệt vời ❤❤❤❤
You saw that fresh compost and of course you had to get out there 😅😂😉
Beautiful! The garden is really taking shape and tree trimming looks wonderful too! I am going out to help my son who is coming over with a chain saw to trim up some major trees. I'll be doing the hauling/carrying to the street side of the yard for pick up today. So, breakfast and coffee then working outside!
Glad you had help getting the garden started…. 👍🏻
Royal Raspberry Agastache ! I took a screenshot so I can add it to my 2024 plant shopping list.
