I’m in a weird chapter of line and have moved back in with my parents (so grateful) and I have decided to take all my frustrations out on the weeds in the garden they’re now to elderly to tend to. It has gotten out of hand and just doing the weed maintenance this winter is going to be one of the many ways I thank them ❤
Plant some tulips & when they come up in the spring they will bring you and your folks so much joy after a tough winter full of change for you. You (and I both) are so so so lucky to have our parents with us on this earth still, so cherish this moment in time as a blessing in disguise 🙏🏼
Thanks for the great update video. Finally cleaned out my dying, but not yet dead Zinnia patch. Gearing up for the dreaded December Tulip bulb planting. But it’s always worth it in the Spring. Thanks for your great videos.
I'm in Humboldt county Northern California 🌲 I have a lot of Steller's Jay's in my garden that hang out in the Redwood trees around my house...I feed them black oil seeds and their favorite Peanuts 🥜 feed little birds all year round as well. I'm in 9b Thank you for sharing this information. I don't garden much in winter..just walk the beach.💙🙌🌊
I love Monte’s video crashing!! He is such a sweetheart and clearly loves joining you in the garden 🥰❤️ Thank you for the great garden task ideas and reminders!! Great points and suggestions 😊
💕💕when it comes to bird feeders….keep them far away from your homes and other structures. From another’s experience I have learned mice and rats like seed also….and will soon find their way inside homes
Hi Janey🌺 . I enjoyed watching this beautiful video . I have the winter Jasmine its yellow flowers are so pretty and it going to be amazing in your garden . Have a great day .🌺🎄🌺🎄.
You hit this one heads on! Yasss 🎉 I just ordered my David Austin roses set to be shipped in January & February, they are already selling out. Love this video and shout out to all our Northern Ca. Gardeners!! You’re the best.. oh wait Robbie & Jason too 🤣❤️🤣
I suppose I will feed my birds this winter although I’m a little miffed at the blue jays because they kept stealing my plant tags and wove them into their nests last Spring.! 😂🇨🇦
thank you for sharing Feeding birds can have both benefits and unintended consequences - e.g. practice good hygiene at your feeders - clean and disinfect them and make sure to thoroughly dry the feeders, & move the feeders around the garden. Leaving part of a lawn wild, planting native trees with seasonal fruits, seeds and berries is likely to enhance a natural, seasonal shift in food sources...
Wonderful tips! I’m using this cool weather time to do some reconfiguring of a large garden space that I had no vision for previously. Do you sow your echinacea etc. directly or indoors in trays this time of year?
i live in 9a central fl. my mexican petunias had what looks like white felt on their leaves. i think its mealy worms but im not sure. ive tried a variety of solutions.lately, ive cut them back and used bifinthrin .03%. any suggestions? thank you. your videos are excellent.
How do you grow foxgloves without getting poisoned while gardening around them? I kept forgetting they were poison and wondered why my heart was fluttering then realized I was pinching dead leaves off without gloves on!
We feed the birds every winter & Spring but one thing we learned is it's very important to sterilize bird feeders each time you refill them, because there is a virus that spreads among birds that frequent feeders that causes them to go blind. They die because they can't see to eat anymore. It's heart breaking 💔
If you are supposed to spray the fruit trees when they are dormant but they are officially dormant once the leaves have dropped, then are you just spraying through naked branches? This has always confused me with my apple trees. Any commenters who know?
Hi Jamie, I'm from the Oklahoma Panhandle. I was wondering if maybe you could talk about the different states on what to grow 6b, I watch Garden answer. Basically we're the same weather type. I get most of my information from her but like yours too. Thank you in advance and thanks for the information. Have a great rest of the day 😊👋

"One year's seeds, seven years weeds" is the old saying I always heard. So true! This was a good session! Thanks.
I like how you tell us what plants to plant or prune in each season, I'm learning so much from your videos, very helpful, thanks!

In my zone 10b So Cal, quite a few of my cyclamen overwintered from last year. They are looking beautiful once again.

Just an idea….maybe cut your tree stakes off about 2 feet from the ground. They may be a little less noticeable.
Im sure I’ll reuse the stakes in the future so I’d rather leave them tall just in case!

Did your ground freeze last year with the polar blast we had?
Nope! Not where I am in CA.
To do list
1) Spray fruit trees
2) touch grass
😆😉

There is such a thing as too much compost though which can affect your plants like too much fertilizer. Just something to be aware of.
That’s not what I was taught in my master gardeners classes, but of course, we all have different techniques!

The idea is to soak the branches with the spray. That's where the bugs mostly lay their eggs to winter over is on branches. Same with fungal issues.
Carolyn is right, you are aiming for the branches
