  • The most important thing is working out the exact size sleeves and receiving cups to use. Do it properly and safely.
Sometimes this job can be done with the suspension arms still on the car using a Ball Joint Press Kit "G-Clamp Style" or a Press & Pull Sleeve kit (with threaded rods).
But today I'm doing it the "less frustrating way" using a Hydraulic Press.
I'm using Honda / Acura control arms, but it also applies to many other cars with similar style steel shell bushes. I've done this job on Mitsubishi Evos, Subaru and even on a Holden.
NOTE: some bushes only press in or out from one direction if they have a lip or if they are tapered.
While the gearbox is out of my Honda Integra DC2 Acura, its a good time for me to replace the bushes on the front lower control arms. I press out the old worn bushes in a safe and controlled way, then I press in the new bushes using the correct size tools. Its not too hard.

    OEM Parts used:
51810-SK7-004 or 51810SK7004 Strut fork bushing
51392-ST7-013 or 51392ST7013 inner end of control arm bush
    Strut Fork Bush Removal:
I pressed out the old Strut Fork bush using a pressing sleeve with an 39.8mm diameter while the suspension arm was supported on a bush receiving cup with a 56mm O.D and 46mm I.D
    --
Front Control arm inner bush removal:
Then I pressed out the old control arm end bush using a pressing sleeve with an 36mm diameter (36.4 would be a slightly better size) while the suspension arm was supported on a bush receiving cup with a 50mm O.D and 40mm I.D
    --
Front Control arm inner bush replacement:
Then I pressed in the new 37.2mm control arm inner bush using a pressing sleeve with a 38mm diameter while the suspension arm was supported on a bush receiving cup with a 48mm O.D and 38mm I.D
    ----
    Strut Fork Bush Replacement:
I pressed in the new 40.2mm Strut Fork bush using a pressing sleeve with an 39.8mm diameter while the suspension arm was supported on a bush receiving cup with a 54mm O.D and 44mm I.D

Thank you! All the numbers and details in this video were doing my head in a bit. So I might make another more generic version without so many specific dimensions in the voiceover

@@UzumakiGarage that’s next level with the hydraulic press. Makes bicycle suspension presses look like child’s play. I’ve used my mini lathe to make bush presses but those car bushes are massive by comparison

interesting to see the penetrating oil didn't get on the bushing ring.

Hi mate. yes it was interesting. Maybe if I let it soak for a few days it would have penetrated deeper. Turns out there was very little corrosion so the bushes pressed out very easily. thanks for your feedback :)
