    Thank you Sarah. I came on youtube to find instructions on how to use Tech Wash because my bottle instructions are in Spanish. Unfortunately, before finding your great no nonsense video I had to watch some hunting guy cutting up a deer, another guy skiing all over the world and endless rambling from others.

      Yes, you can. I tend to put a few items in to make the most of the wash. I did two regular waterpoof outer jackets for this video. If your jackets are thicker or bigger, it is worth putting a bit more Nikwax in the wash with them to get full coverage.

    • @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer
      @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Masood, The setting I used too an hour, which I think gave ti time to get good coverage. And yes, I opted for the gentle setting so that it wasn't pulling the fabric with lots of movement and also means that it sits in the solution longer. On my machine, the setting was 'Special' and my new machine has an 'outdoor clothing' setting, which is described as gentle, so I would go with that, or a wool wash, which tends to be cooler and lighter. Hope that it helpful - washing machines have all strange and different settings! But basically light and long seems to work for me. :)

    • @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer
      @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that to keep the breathability of the Gore-Tex, it is better to use a spray or brush on re-proofer so that it doesn't affect the insides. Nikwax have a spray version, which I would think would work - but I haven't tried it myself.

    Hi Sarah, great video! Just a quick question; do you really need to use two caps (2 x 50ml) full per wash? It does seem overkill to me, as it's 1/3 of a 300ml bottle per use! I have used Grangers in the past, which has been 1 cap full (1 x 25ml) for 1 garment.

    • @SarahIrvingCoachManchester
      @SarahIrvingCoachManchester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Aku,
      Thank you and thanks for your message. In my video, I am washing two garments (the two Rab coats) so needed the two caps for the wash. I like to proof more than one item when I am doing a machine reproof as it saves water (I can also chuck in any waterproof socks/gloves/gaiters etc that need a top-up as well) I've not used Grangers proofer for a long time, so I can't comment on those - unless it's for reproofing tents! I think that while it might seem like a lot of product is used, the proofing does last a long time (I tend to only need to re-proof my coat which gets worn/scrumpled into my rucksack etc every day of the year) :) Hope that answers your question in a roundabout way! :)

      Hi Gary,
      Sorry for not replying sooner, I didn't get a notification!
      I have added an extra capful when doing more items of clothing and it seems to have helped. I had a very dirty coat which came up well after two washed with Tech Wash so it is worth giving it a try, as it is on a colder wash.

  • @markgeddes4411
    @markgeddes4411 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hi there, seen your video a few times over just now and I’m a little confused on the washer settings as your washer has different modes than ours, would it be ok just to set it at Daily Wash For Clean at 40o 800 Spin and change it to 30o 800 Spin for the Waterproofing , on the label of the jacket there’s nothing. Thanks

    • @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer
      @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark,
      Yes, washing machines do make it more complicated with all the various settings. I would personally be inclined to go for the 30C wash as waterproof clothing has synthetic fibres which don't fare well with higher temperatures. I would also stick to the 30C for both the wash and the proofing.
      I also recommend contacting the maker of your jacket to see whether they can offer any advice - seeing as there is no additional information on the label itself.
      Good luck!
      (DISCLAIMER: I am no expert, I have only used my machine on the settings in the video or on Outdoor Clothing setting on my new Samsung Washer Dryer)

    • @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer
      @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, good question. I have never UV proofed any of my tents so far and they seem to have been OK. I guess my camping might have been more rain than sun though. I think, if it were me, I would do the UV proof when you need to do the next waterproofing so that you're not interfering with the other. Bear in mind that I am no expert though, just what I would do :) Thanks for the question though, Justin.

    • @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer

    Why would you need to use this product when the jackets already water proof 🤔

    • @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer
      @SarahIrvingTheUrbanWanderer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is about re-proofing a waterproof jacket. Through wear and tear and contact with things like soap when washing your hands, the waterproofing doesn't last forever. When it is going, you can see dark patches where the water is getting through the fabric and inevitably onto the clothes you are trying to keep dry. Reproofing recoats and seals the fabric to give it a longer life. It is recommended to do it more frequently if you are using the jacket/clothing item very regularly. I hope that helps :)

    • @SarahIrvingCoachManchester

      Hi, both solutions go in at different times due to the required temperature (hence in the same part of the drawer) and for a full wash cycle. If you find that it gives a great proofing by doing it simply for a conditioner cycle, that is great :)
