Crowe was absolutely phenomenal. I love him in things like Master and Commander but when he plays these more "down to earth" type roles he smashes it out the park.
thats the thing though, sometimes i just dont feel like hes even acting, just being there himself, which doesnt make his performance unique at all, but thats just my opinion.
From watching a Denzel interview years ago somewhere, he mentioned this scene strongly represented the reason why he chose to star in American Gangster.
No they didn't give a single sht about that. You see all the other cops surrounding him, that was his only escape route so they closed it and got behind him. But it's your world when you watch a movie. Whatever you think. But it's called a perimeter.
The idea of quitting while you are ahead and leaving something for the next person is very noble and for the few that push themselves, maybe too far, that's all it ever is: an idea. They have no intention of quitting. Think about actors, football players, CEOs, athletes, people with varying degrees of sociopathic behaviour and Autism [all of us?] . They could stop and do something else but why stop doing something you are good at and enjoy? Frank Lucas realised that chapter in his life was over so he turned another page and turned State's Witness. I've watched American Gangster at least four times and now I will just have ton watch it again. Brilliant film.
You're right. Denzel Washington should have quit after this movie but instead he kept going and going and going and going and going. Pretty soon he's going to be like the Steven Segal of movies where he's an old fat guy, can't even bend over to tie his shoes, and walking around as everyone come up to him and him doing a karate chop that breaks their arm and spines in halves.
@@Dan-di9jd yep most people do when it comes to that type of business. They never know when to quit and they all get caught it's just plain stupid. They should set a goal and that's it
That’s because it’s a black gangster movie. It’s not appealing to most. Italian Mafia story - now we talking. Cool Italian accents, mannerisms, iconic actors and characters. This movie is a black copycat on Italian gangster movies. How do you connect with the audience?
I'll have to re-watch this film for a fourth or fifth time because now I'm question if Russel Crowe's character arrests Frank Lucas so respectfully, out of respect for Frank Lucas himself OR if he understood that if he arrested Frank Lucas disrespectfully (especially with regard to his family) that his own safety would be in jeopardy after the fact. That is to say, Frank Lucas actually held no grudge against the detective or any cop for that matter, unless that cop disrespected his family. Make no mistake, even under arrest and being held, someone like him could still kill someone if he absolutely wanted that person dead. Maybe he wouldn't 'get away with it' but if he's going to prison, or already there, don't give him reason to target you.
Why is he arresting people then prosecuting them in court? Is he some kind of detective who moonlights as an assistant district attorney? This makes no sense. This is like CSI where they make the crime scene technician the detective too. Those are two very different jobs.
@@Shane-un8pe I agree. It was amusing. I don't know the real life story, but it is possible for anyone to attempt to make the career shift from a detective to a lawyer. However, that they'd end up being the lawyer on such a high profile case seems like B.S. You would want an experienced attorney as lead on the trial, and at best a person who made such a jump from being a detective on the same case would be a part of the team.
@@Shane-un8pe usually movies will condense multiple characters into one. I guess the move director probably felt like they’d lose the emotional touch or maybe they didn’t want to pay another actor.
Michael roles are extremely difficult 😂😂😂. He sound the same, demeanor is the same and for the love of him he can be both a good or bad guy,,, no one could actually guess what side is he on.😮
The irony of them playing amazing grace while he’s getting arrested. Is that John Newton was once a slave trader and that’s why he wrote amazing Grace because of his regrets of being a slave trader and how he changed his life around. Kind of interesting how this is about black gangsters and they threw that amazing Grace in there we was really about a man who was a slave trader and a lot of people don’t know that.
