Great video sam, ive met a few of them there photographers ha. You can only crop in and reposition if you film 4k and edit onto a 1080 timeline else it may pixelate, I use this all the time. Its a never ending learning curve our profession and the more you learn the more you forget at times

I am a old man and that does give me perspective on all of this. It is obvious that photographers are in love with their gear and that has a bad effect on quality.. Even these tips as excellent as they are (they were just as important when I was a kid) will get you perfectly composed , framed and exposed cliches. Never the less a excellent back to the basics advice.
what I love about rules, that you can only brake the rules when you know the rules of how to brake it to stand out of the crowd. Key here is really master the rules > then try different things and see how they compared with the ones with rules, if they look better that is the new rule. Now tell me how many times I said the word Rules 🤣

Simplicity is everything... My mentor was the DP for Orson Welles and Orson wanted simplicity.. Your advice is spot on.. Don't over use techniques you see on TH-cam.. It gets nauseating.. Just like the FPV pilots I've been seeing.. Overused nauseating, and used in the wrong application.. Great video

I was working in a series of short movies during July, and the director always wanted something I'm the foreground, and I remember telling him that not all of them adds something to the story, and we had a little disagreement, but I think some times people tend to miss used it a lot, because it looks cool, so happy that you point it out
Ah good on ya 👌🏻 I suppose when someone has a vision, it’s hard for them to see what other people might see. Ya have to take a step back sometimes and think what’s best for the story/viewer.

it's interesting, i started my career as a graphic designer, and was always into photography, so composition has always been a thing i've leaned on and practiced. and since i got more into videography i just started going back to how i used to think as a graphic designer which the terminology may be a bit different but ultimately it's really the same stuff! so yeah, balance, white space/negative space, focus, flow, legibility, it's really exactly what you talk about here.

Hi. Good question… just remember these are just concepts. Don’t tie yourself down to them. It all depends on what the environment looks like and what type of image or feeling you want to convey. Try and few angles and see which looks best to you and go with that 🙏🏻
