  • If you cant see the center cross hairs on TechDraw's technical drawing in FreeCAD 0.18 / 0.19 and above the by default these are switched off and a number of settings have to be configured in FreeCAD's preferences. There are also a number of options that can be enabled / disabled for each of the the views you add to FreeCAD's TechDraw technical drawing document. This video explains how to get those centre crosshairs visible on you tech sketches.

Thank you for showing this. I had no idea about the preferences setting for TD. I work with small plexiglass items, draw them in Fc then print them, tape the drawing to the plexiglass and drill holes on my press using the cross-hair center mark. These we enabled by default in 0.18 but thought it was a bug in 0.19 since they didn’t display. My world is spinning again thanks to you video.

Great to hear its helped and your back up and running. I never knew its was disabled in 0.19. I don't like it when that happens in software it really puts people off.

    Thank you,
what about the little horizontal lines on chamfered edges?
Can these be refined and got rid of?

Side question. How would you indicate depth of the blind hole?

Yes I be able to help as I wrote a blog post with a number of settings to make freecad easier on the eye. These are cakes points and markers in the settings I believe but this details the main ones in a table. mangojellysolutions.blogspot.com/2022/12/settings-and-resources-to-help-with.html

FYI - I went through all here, but still no center marks in TechDraw. Also realized that also no vertices were appearing, no matter how large I set them. OS is Debian Linux 12. Solution was to replace the package manager version of Freecad with the .AppImage file downloaded from Freecad website.

Your videos are always so informative, clear and precise. Thank you very much.
Do you know a way to detach the dimension lines from the part shown in TechDraw?
I mean, that the lines that connect the dimension arrow to the part, so that they don't touch the lines of the part?
Or that these lines be hatched, to avoid any possible confusion.

How do you solve the problem where the white background colour of a detail view (for example) is "on top of" the dimensions on the main view? Otherwise if your dimensions go anywhere near the detail view then they get hidden underneath the white rectangle.

How would you deal with odd angled objects in techdraw? I've messed around with this wb a bit but it's been easy parts. Currently in the process of designing a bench for my borther, the seat part is relatively straightforward but the legs and it's supports are all angled and make it awkward since they don't align with the standard front, left, right etc views xD

Good question, you can create custom angles by altering your view point of the object and jumping over to techdraw and adding the view. It's a case of getting the view correct in your 3D view and adding them to the drawing. Other ideas are to use section views so you split your model in half or use a staggered view. I do have another video somewhere on my channel regarding custom section views in tech draw as there not supported or the box.
