  • I purchased a Polaris Voyageur for the upcoming Ice Fishing season, I wanted to make a few adjustments and set it up a bit differently. When I'm going to do a project like this I like to look at how other people set things up and see some of their creativity, hopefully this video will give you some ideas on setting up your snowmobile for ICE FISHING.

    I’m torn. While I would love to have a ski, because I do love to ride them, I am also very glad I live where I don’t need one lol.
    Nice piece of equipment there for sure.

    This is my dream sled. Im basically looking for a toy that does a little bit of work. Ice fishing, trail riding and some offtrail bush whacking. The bearcat looks great but i like to have fun every once and a while without feeling like im driving a bus.

    • @After5Outdoors
      @After5Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      The bearcat definitely is a bus! Overall I am liking the Voyageur, plenty of snap for trail riding and going off the beaten path , pulls pretty darn good too. I do miss the wider track though

    • @nathangravel3584
      @nathangravel3584 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@After5Outdoors just wondering, does the wider track make the big of a difference? here in northern ontario, we can get 6-12” of sluhs under some snow on the lake. Would you rather have the polaris or the bearcat?

    • @After5Outdoors
      @After5Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathangravel3584 Honestly, the wider the track the more floation you get, now it takes a little more power to spin that track. If I had two pick between the two sleds, theres things I like about the voyageur and theres things I like about the bearcat. But for fishing, I probably would pick the Bearcat....

    Really nice set up. I’ve got the an expedition with the 900 ace turbo SWT 24”. Love that machine. I used to just use an RMK which was nice for pulling sleds in deep snow/slush. Overall most sleds will do.

    • @After5Outdoors
      @After5Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For ice fishing I'm kinda looking for the most simplistic machine I can find. Since I operate in such a variety of ice conditions, sometimes I've ran weeks without much snow. Which is where the fan cooled shines, then there's when the snow us ultra deep, this sled may have a bit of trouble in really deep snow. The Bearcat I had was honestly probably a better rig, but nothing lasts forever. I never had a place I couldn't go with the Bearcat, I pulled out quite a few rigs out of the slush with it. I betcha that Ski Doo will haul the mail!!! Tight lines!!

    Glad I stumbled upon this video. Its very helpful getting good ideas. I have a very similar sled to yours, a 2021 Indy LXT, and am in the process of rigging it up for ice fishing as well. I have a Garmin EchoMap 73SV i want to mount to my handlebars similar to how you did. I was wondering, was it hard wiring your graph to the battery? When I pull the panel off to look at the battery it seems like a real mess and I assumed it would be difficult.
    Thanks!!

    I have the exact same sled. In fact, l’m pretty sure I saw you fishing just off Penasse about a month ago. I noticed because we have the same sled. I like mine. One question, how is the auger rack working for you? The Voyageur bumper is a little slanted so you noted you had to bolt it in instead of clamping it to the bumper. Have you had any issues with the auger falling off or does the slant of the mount give you pause? My auger is mounted on the side but it causes noticeable tilt because the suspension isn’t built for that so I’m looking to make a change

    • @After5Outdoors
      @After5Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      You should have stopped and said hello!!! I could have clamped mine, but the Angle is notorious for breaking everything that isnt bolted down! Ive been running the digger auger rack since 2013, Ive had zero issues! In my opinion it is also safer to have the auger in the front, if you ever tipped could be bad if the blades contact your body, could happen also from the front but a little less likely, Ive never had my auger fall off, I use a bungee cord in addition to the standard latch, zip over next time you see me!

      @@After5Outdoors Ok, I got my 550 LXT all geared up and ready to rock. one thing I plan on doing is adjusting the rear shock to accommodate the load when full, did you happen to adjust yours at all since the springs are not available? did you put on scratchers?

    • @After5Outdoors
      @After5Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only looked at the Voyageur, I knew when I was going to replace the Bearcat it would be the Voyageur, I wanted fan cooled, I wanted simplicity and I wanted under 10k in price. The folks I talked to all said they would buy them again. I'm not an Arctic Cat fan by any means but they did it right when they built the bearcat. Then like fools they discontinued it, the Norseman which replaced it doesn't hold a candle to the bearcat, and it's 14k dollars
