The fact is, i was still viewing the car world through my Gen x year 2000k lens. Repairability is going to be the new yardstick for measuring a car in 10 years. Some of these vehicles have already become like modern microwaves and televisions. Cheaper to toss them and get another.
Very well said. You would love a gladiator. Ride is a dream compared to the older jeeps especially with the long wheel base. And your sentence about repairability being the new yard stick for reliability is spot on. Matter of fact I'm going to make a video about that.
I bought the Ford F150 with the eco-boost motor because I have a small fleet of service vans with our business and they all have the Eco boost motor 3.5L and we run the heck out of them. Don’t do anything but change the oil and usually get rid of them around 180,000 miles, but typically don’t have any issues with them whatsoever. They’ve been very dependable. Now past that 180,000 mark not sure. And they also sit and idle the engine for a couple of hours each and every day. Not sure why they call them eco-boost, though the gas mileage is terrible about 12 miles per gallon.
Hi Jason.. thanks for your videos and advice. I went for a fully loaded certified pre-owned 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro4x. It was an 18 month lease return with about 18k on the mileage. The truck was in great condition and picked up the extended warranty, getting me to the end 2029 or another 100k of mileage. I paid $35k for the truck and $1,500 for the certified pre-owned wrapper warranty. As a suggestion, maybe that would a good option for others. I really do not see the changes or updates to the 2025 being that big of deal and worth paying over $50k for the same truck. I also did some Nismo upgrades (as they don't impact the warranty). I did the Nismo 1.5 lift with upper control arms 0:080:08 and Nismo Cat Back Exhaust kit. I put 285/70/17 BFGs on the truck and it looks completely different. I would agree the truck should have come with these options.
Hi Jason.. As a suggestion for a future video, consider do a video on buying the best mid size truck that is a certified pre-owned truck. As I stated above, I think the savings i received going that route were totally better vs buying new. Maybe a video comparing the plus/minus of going that route would be of interest to your viewers. My thinking was i am planning to keep my truck for at least 5 years. I didn’t see any significant difference in residual value in a truck that was 5 vs 7 old.
Both gladiator & frontier have similarities as far as heavy duty Dana axcels used by jeeps & old school big block hemi torque monster Mopars since the late 60s & Jason is absolutely right these are overbuilt time tested battle proven designs that have been perfected as the new school stuff hasn't been tested for decades like the frontier & the gladiator
I’ve owned 3 Gladiators so far. Loved them. Best and most fun truck on market. Also V6 is very easy to service and performed maintenance. A lot of people don’t know what they say when they talk crap and usually are brand soy boys

Great points on the gladiator. However, there are not aftermarket hoods or tailgates easily available. At least not those insurance would buy for us after surviving a tornado. Mine got new MOPAR hood, tailgate and back glass that was cheaper than hail repair.
Still driving my bought new in 99 Frontier 3.3 V6 manual 4x4 its now pushing 300k miles. So far the timing belt failed around 180k, then distributor & fuel pump soon after that otherwise just regular maintenance and it still runs fine.
@donthornton7528 gladiator tows amazing. I have done the same cross country trip in a ram 2500, a toyota tacoma, 4 runner cherokee trailhawk, and gladiator. The only one that tows better is the ram 2500.
I loved my frontier but with a growing family the cab space (mid size truck) was a deal breaker. If you don’t need cab space for daily passengers, they are money
Local dealer here has a purple Willys Gladiator 2024 with options. MSRP of 54K and you can buy it for 44K. If I needed another truck it would be in my driveway today.
Planned obsolescence is part of new cars so they all fall apart Go to any shop and look in the service shop and to the back of the dealership and see how busy that are repairing the vehicles My local Toyota dealership has a lot full of cars needing repair. But my local jeep/dodge dealer will need 2-3weeks out for service appointments
That doesn't mean anything. Those vehicles at the Toyota dealership can simply be there for maintenance. I took my Tacoma to a Toyota dealer not too long a go for maintenance.
If only GM put out recalls they would be fixing their vehicles before they were a problem. Aka fuel pump solenoid. Recalls aren’t always a bad thing, in fact I want a company that owns up and stands behind their product.
You got the Colorado because it's comfortable, quiet, and rides nice. That's something that the Gladiator doesn't do. AFA the Frontier, it's a great truck but I've tried or rented all the mid sized trucks and I like the Ranger best. Actually full disclosure, I haven't actually driven the current gen Frontier or Colorado. If I was to downsize from my current '23 Titan Pro 4X, I'd try them before making a decision. I'm a lower mileage guy at this point in my life and my truck is a garage queen when not towing or hauling or doing a weekly town run to get the get the engine hot, blow out the carbon and charge the battery. My Titan is quiet, comfortable, rides nice and tows my 7k TT better than my '18 F-150 5.0 FX4. Drawback is the back seat is a little smaller with less storage as the WB is 4 inches shorter, and the fuel economy overall is 17 vs the Coyote's 19. Gotta say the Titan is a better built truck than the last 2 gens F-150. it compares well with my '13 F-150 FX4 5.0 which was a very well built very reliable tank of a truck with an all steel body. i only buy 4x4s so I don't get stuck somewhere, something that happened to me in a 2wd truck. After that I was done with 2wd trucks. I've done more 4x4 off roading for 3 lifetimes and am done with that. All the bumping, rocking, rattling, climbing and diving. What's the worst? Unpaved washboard roads. Once that sympathetic vibration in the vehicle gets going it's nuts.
Hey Jason! Great video! Curious and hopefully this doesn’t start a string of negative comments but what makes you confident that this new Tundra engine will eventually turn out to be good/reliable?
Every time toyota comes out with a new truck or new motor is full of problems for the first few years. They they start improving them to the point of almost perfect. That's how toyora always does it
Nope… 👎 My new Gladiator went into limp mode on a 700 mile Rd trip about 400 miles in. 20 MPH is a great way to enjoy the scenery, but… no thanks. There is a good reason these are not selling, and it’s not because everyone else has it wrong. BTW - Way too much for what you get. I’ve also owned a Frontier. Great truck, good value for the money. I’d buy another without hesitation. I drive my vehicles about 60-100k miles per year. I’ve put many miles on Jeep Wranglers and the Gladiator… the Jeep’s have all required major repairs. Some in 10K miles (Gladiator) some not till over 80k. But in my experience, there’s no getting around it without spending a small fortune on mods.
Own a Gladiator for more than a second, put 150,000 miles on it. Then talk to us. Meanwhile all the mechanics who actually work on cars disagree with you on the Jeep. Frontier is very decent.
I will never put 150k miles on any vehicle i own ever again. Nor would I buy a vehicle with that many miles. But if I did. Gladiator would be right at the top of my list. Exactly as I said in the video and for those reasons. I don't care what a mechanic says. They also say never buy a truck from a mechanic.
She did not. But she has been with me when I have drove them. She said it's a little outdated and reminded her of my 22 tacoma, witch she also hated..lol. I told her it's simple and reliable and functional at a great price and people love them. She said that's great I like a truck that looks tough and mean. If it isn't reliable I will just drive your truck and you can Uber until mine is fixed😂😂
What about the Honda Ridgeline? Isn't also known for longevity? Also not sure if you've mentioned it before but the Frontier has a large enough engine bay to swap in a Titan VK56 into it. So after putting 250k miles on your Frontier you can swap in a fat Titan V8 engine (and Titan suspension as well). Lots of enthusiasts on TH-cam turn their Frontiers into mini-Titans lol.
You don’t want any road noise on your 😅long trips get the reliable Honda rigdeline very comfortable 500 miles on a full tank of gas on the highway 350 or more on the streets that’s what my 20 year year old 358 thousand miles does till this day 👍
Mire pentistar motors with over 200k than any other v6 on the road I'm betting. I'm not gonna spend the time to look it up. But I'm betting I'm right on that
I'm retired. In my day it used to be VW bugs and vans with gas leaks in the engine fully involved. And the magnesium in the blocks were hard to put out. Makes me wonder if the jeeps and having gas leaks as well. Stay safe and use your SCBA.
Always enjoy your content Jason . Hey where is this dealership located at ? I like that Anvil Gladiator Willys there ! Can you share the sticker price and location ?
I can get a VQ38DD short block for the Frontier for 900$ from Z1 offroad. As long as the whatever happened stayed in the bottom end I can swap it for 2k max Or I can get a used COMPLETE engine with low miles between 1800 to 3500 Having a hell of a time finding new engines for sale lol....seems that can only be had thru a dealer 😂 Point is its cheap and it only proves your point of the video.
@@Jason-Samko yep whether it's upgrade parts or OEM, Z1 seems to have the biggest selection thats Nissan/Infiniti specific. Another very solid place to go is ADO....All Dogs Offroad Co-op. ADO does other manufacturers too like Toyota and Lexus. Z1 only specializes in Nissan/Infiniti platforms
2024 Rubicons or Mojave with the safety and tech upgrades over '23 will be coming off lease in 2026--. Most will have been highway cruisers and make great deals then.
How come they can’t fix them right they know the hinges rot the hoods doors and tailgates. So it will effect the value of it overtime. I was looking a long time for a used one.I seen a lot of them with bubbles around hinges. So after 5 years or buying used you SOL on have them fixing it.
So I have a question for you you always keep saying you're gladiator does this you're gladiator does that how about a video of you taking your gladiator out and mudding it like you say you do
Bunches of the on my channel. Check the offroad playlist. I don't record those videos anymore as they get very few views. Views are how I get paid. If content doesn't get views I don't make it. So I don't make many off road videos these days. Too much work to set up cameras and do it all for the low view numbers
$25-$30,000.00 to replace an engine? I find that hard to believe unless you are talking about a COMPLETE engine assembly like a powerstroke or a Duramax. If you are paying that much, you're getting taken to the cleaners. I find this video to be a bit misleading.
You can say reliability on a Stellantis product is worth the money all you want but that is not my experience. Poor build quality and lots of repairs is my experience and I'll take experience over cheap words everyday.
@LancelotLink1 what you call cheap words is experience as well. I've owned 8 jeeps and rams. Only brand of vehicles that have never ever once been in the shop for anything. I've owned 40 new trucks. Guessing thay qualifies as more than cheap words.
@@Jason-Samko "Only brand of vehicles that have never ever once been in the shop for anything"????? Again that's not even close to my experience with Stellantis products or the people around me. My Rams have left me stranded with electronic problems in extreme heat, made me return to the service center for dozens of recalls, had one 3.92 limited slip rear axles go bad after 5K miles, had the Hemi tick after 20K miles, had dashboards that made noises like they were haunted, had body panels that were so poorly aligned from the factory and had some body parts that could not be aligned because of poor quality parts. All that was with vehicles before they hit 30K miles. I had a Ram that the front-end bushings all fell out before 60k miles and the radiator leaked around 20K miles. The only thing I liked about any Stellantis products over the past 20 years is their ZF 8 speed transmission.
I think the frontier has one of the lowest reliability score. Not sure if I believe it though. Want to speak to some frontier owners themselves. a good idea for the channel Jason would be if you interviewed people who have these vehicles and see what their thoughts are on reliability. ?
Just did not like the ride in the frontier. Stiff steering, low to the ground, outdated. I get what you’re saying, just could not handle that for a daily driver. Took my chances with the 2024 Tacoma off/rd. Wish me luck. Really wish I never sold my 2013 Tundra Rock Warrior bought new.
@@Jason-SamkoI was wanting to get the new Tacoma and I like the way they look. I had a 2020 sierra withe turbo 4 and decided going NA might be better long term. Probably won't keep the frontier too long anyway. The steering was noticeable for a day or 2 when purchased. Now the turn radius more of a real thing. I'm sure my sierra maneuvered better in parking situations
I don't drive a zr2, my wife does and because I'm unbiased and honest. I call it like I see it, even when it doesn't benefit me. I would never buy a frontier, doesn't mean I don't respect it and appreciate what it is
@Jason-Samko Understood. I watched another one of the videos where you were discussing the ZR2 in a favorable light. I thought it was yours from the context of the video. I'm considering buying a Colorado Trail Boss so I was looking for insight.
@outdoorman808 the willys gets factory mud terrain tires, the rear locker and the offroad plus button that changes shift points and let's you use the rear locker in 4 high. Probably some cosmetics too like color matched fenders etc.
I have an 89 Ford Lariat, 5 speed, 302, 4X4, standard cab, 8 foot bed. I was going to keep that forever. The fuel pump was failing. All Motorcraft parts for old pickups are discontinued, so I went with aftermarket. The fuel pump failed, so exchanged it and it failed. Exchanged that one and it failed. Exchanged that one and it failed. Then found 2 NOS and they are now working in both tanks. Put in a new AC Delco starter. It failed. Haven't been able to use the new starter yet. Put in new injectors and those failed. The new set is working. The water pump is working, which is a Christmas miracle. New distributor failed at 8 miles, so the old one was put back in. Rebuilt the engine and something failed internally, so that's been in the shop for months. In the last year it has been in the shop waaaay more than it's been on the road. Aftermarket parts aren't the same anymore. We live in a different world.
I've liked the channel up until this video. Claiming you could replace all the shocks on a gladiator for 300 bucks demonstrates weak knowledge o off road vehicles.
@@Jason-Samko My apologies, I really didn't mean to insult you but I see how it reads now that I look at it again. But honestly, if 249.99 for 4 hocks on a Rubicon is accurate, those shocks suck and that Jeep is grossly overpriced.

Love my frontier! You influenced me to buy one and I love it. Simple and strong engine.

Good video,, and good job hitting the long term truck interest.. Always good stuff, thanks!

My only regret is that I bought a Wrangler 2 Door manual w/ a 3.6 (which I love) last month and now I want a Gladiator too.

I just bought a 2025 Pro 4X over a Taco. Very happy with my decision
Thanks for the info!
Hi Jason.. thanks for your videos and advice.
I did the Nismo 1.5 lift with upper control arms 0:08 0:08 and Nismo Cat Back Exhaust kit. I put 285/70/17 BFGs on the truck and it looks completely different. I would agree the truck should have come with these options.
Sounds like an amazing truck and well done
@chrisfreudenreich8197 will try and make that video happen soon

Great points on the gladiator. However, there are not aftermarket hoods or tailgates easily available. At least not those insurance would buy for us after surviving a tornado.

The gladiator is bad for long road trips. Road noise is on par with a wrangler.
love mine and do 40k miles a year all over the country in it.
The corrosion issue honestly really isn’t an issue due to the fact everything is aluminum… so it may bubble but won’t rot!
Very true. It's just a cosmetic thing
Need to mention the gladiator is great for hauling a trailer to get more things done I know you do it so do I
@donthornton7528 gladiator tows amazing. I have done the same cross country trip in a ram 2500, a toyota tacoma, 4 runner cherokee trailhawk, and gladiator. The only one that tows better is the ram 2500.
What size trailer? Seen them pulling small camping trailers up a hill and the truck sucks. Besides it’s a Jeep brand.
Hey Jason, is the Wrangler 4-door just as reliable as the Gladiator?
Yes. Both are very similar.

Go to any shop and look in the service shop and to the back of the dealership and see how busy that are repairing the vehicles
My local Toyota dealership has a lot full of cars needing repair.
Id love too get a Rubicon one day just don't have the money right now.
What's the best truck for washboard roads you've ever tried? I would think these Baja-type trucks like the ZR2, Mojave....
That's how toyora always does it
Awesome! Thanks for the response!
Just had a 3.6 put in wife's ram 1500 from dodge dealer was just under $13000 for motor & labor
Thats a whole lot of labor. But all that matters is they did a good job and your truck is back to perfect

Bingo. My experience with Stellantis reliability is bad.
Love to hear you speak the truth Jay dog! Did your wife test drive a new Frontier before buying the colorado?
Ridgeline is a great one too.
You don’t want any road noise on your 😅long trips get the reliable Honda rigdeline very comfortable 500 miles on a full tank of gas on the highway 350 or more on the streets that’s what my 20 year year old 358 thousand miles does till this day 👍

Ouch! That's not a good sign.
I'm retired. In my day it used to be VW bugs and vans with gas leaks in the engine fully involved. And the magnesium in the blocks were hard to put out. Makes me wonder if the jeeps and having gas leaks as well. Stay safe and use your SCBA.

$25-$30,000.00 to replace an engine? I find that hard to believe unless you are talking about a COMPLETE engine assembly like a powerstroke or a Duramax. If you are paying that much, you're getting taken to the cleaners.

I will take Fords Ecoboost any day and all day long. NAs are not drama free!
