The tank lift helps the air flow to the rear cylinder and thus keep it cooler. The rear cylinder on Sportster models can over heat seize up especially when in riding in the city.
@@davidmacgregor5193 I know, still looks ugly though. Have owned 3 Sportsters and a couple of Softails. Never had a heating problem other than when the rubber intake on my oldest Softail cracked. The spark plug looked like someone dropped it in white paint when I came home. The darn bike was still running good though....just a little bit of "hugging" on the gas, so I knew something was wrong. Changed the intake to an aluminum one and a pair of new plugs, and voila, the bike was like new again. Early Evolution engines was incredible.
That’s about the best looking ‘48 bobber conversion I’ve seen; love the big honker of a headlight addition….sweet!
