    7-3-6 is just a 2-5-1 for the 6 chord and the m5-1-4 is just a 2-5-1 for the 4 chord. It's the same concept for both landing chords. Thank for you this!

      Can you explain this to me lol.

    • @jeffereybishop9810
      @jeffereybishop9810 3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      @@gabs7753 sure thing,
      The 2-5-1 is a common jazz passing chord sequence. So let’s say you are going to play a C chord. Before you get there you play the 2 5 1 in that key. So Dm G C. You temporarily change the key of the song to the one you are going to. If you are in the key of C and you want to play a G chord you would temporarily change the key to G and play the 2 5 1 in the key you are going to, in this case G. So you would play Am (2) D (5) G (1)
      It’s saying the same thing as the video but in a different way.

      Jason, the principles are the same, especially for the key of C. C major is the 1. D minor is the 2. E minor is the 3. F major is the 4. G major is the 5, and so on. I learned the numbering system, then worked at mastering that. Then I learned to invert the chords. and am working on mastering that. My electric keyboard can transpose, so now, whatever I play, I play it in C. I wanted to play the keyboard, sing and do worship, not become a concert pianist, which would take forever. And now I do. If the guy from Crowder can do it, so can we!

      First of all: he`s cutting the video so that you can go to his website and buy the whole session. Understandable.
      I`m about to crack the code though, but you`ll have to excuse me since i`m not A genious at musictheory.
      Here`s what i do:
      Pause on every chord and write down what`s written behind the first letter (example: Cdim7 becomes dim7). Be sure to separate the 4 main chords from the ones he uses to Get There (example: M7 (dim7) and so on) - that way you`ll keep track of the leading chords to easier find the ones to use in the middle. Go on the web, find A chord chart and search the names to find the exact notes in every chord.
      Then, switch between the notes in every chord to the combination that fits you best, the chords are the same either way. From there on out, do what I usually do: experiment, try and fail, try again and don`t give up.
      You can do this with any 4chord song you`d like, from Bob Dylan to The Rolling Stones, gospelsongs...any song you like. It`s hard in the beginning, tales A lot of practise and frustration, but it`s worth IT.
      Need A motivating inspiration? Think about Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder. You can do IT, i can do IT, everybody can do IT.
      Good luck from fabulous Norway.

      @Thedustymichaels 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Davin Hutchinson thank you very much Davin. Although i feel i have to let you know that i don`t mind paying for A course or A lesson.
      I`ve been working on progressionsfor A lang time, and now i`ve hit the gospel special chords. If you have A chart or A pointing direction i will be very greatful.
      What i`m working on is finding out what kind of chords i can put between the main ones, and what kind of chords that would fit to any song. Like the ones you play here. My email is sveintakle@icloud.com - but you don`t have to send anything major stuff you`ve worked on for A long time.

    This progression you call 7-3-6-m5-1-4 is really just a 2-5-1 to the 6th x2 with modulation in the middle. See, the 3rd in this is major, not minor as the regular 3, and the 1 has a low seventh as opposed to a high one. Also the minor 5 doesn’t have to be explained as such as the 2 to the 4 is already minor. Love this progression btw. I believe it was first used by Scriabin in his piano concerto’s 3rd movement, towards the end, and is probably most used today in east asian pop-music

    • @PlayCreatively
      @PlayCreatively 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      HEY THANKS FOR WATCHING!!! You are right, it can be explained this way. I have a question for you since you're well versed in music theory. Is an F7 #5 #9 major or minor? What other types of videos would you be interested in?

    • @petfama4211
      @petfama4211 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Davin Hutchinson i guess it’s major as the #9 don’t make it another chord. Thing is, anything above 7 such as a 9, 11 or 13 are really more melodic additions than part of the chord. A thing that could occur however would be if the 9 or 13 or anything really, isn’t in reality a 9 but a hidden 1, 3, 5 or 7 of another chord entierly, just played on top of a wrong inversion of itself that makes it seem like it’s a different chord than it is to the untrained eye. An example would be if it was instead an Fmaj7#59 which would in fact be an A7b13. In this case however the 9 doesn’t do that, and the #5 is more of a suspended note of the fifth in low seventh major chords so it’s all fine. Like these kind of chord related videos really. Also really like gospel music even tho i’m not religious so there’s that. Keep on the good work 👍

    • @PlayCreatively
      @PlayCreatively 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Petfama so the reason I asked, besides just creating conversation, is that the 3rd determines major or minor, but if your playing both the major and minor 3rd then what is it? I agree with you that it is major as the #9 is merely an extension of the chord which is augmented, and augmented chords are major chords with a raised 5th. However I was curious to see how you analyzed the chord. How’d you discover gospel?

    • @ermharriable
      @ermharriable 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Davin Hutchinson - All Dominant chords come from a SCALE. For instance,in your case a F7#9#5 comes from the Altered Dominant Scale. But don’t get caught up on the is it major/minor argument. For example, a F7sus4 doesn’t have a major or minor 3rd. It comes from the Mixolydian scale but it’s still a dominant7 chord. Everything in music starts from a scale. Unlock those scales and start to see a whole other world

    • @Danilo8208SS
      @Danilo8208SS 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Davin Hutchinson it’s a matter of semantics really. The third is always major on a dominant chord. Although the #9 looks like the minor third it’s function is of a 2 or 9.

    How's it going. Great video, it made me think a lot, music theory is no joke. The F7 #5 #9 is a major chord, in this progression it is the 5 of 6. A temporary modulation, 6 is temporarily acting as the 1 and your playing the the 2 and 5 of 6. Since the 6 is a minor chord the 2 of a minor key is diminished, therefore the C chord is diminished. I believe this is what's going on. Thanks.

    Here is a more logical naming arrangement for your chords: 1-DbMaj7 2-Cmb5bb7 (full diminish chord) 3-F#5#9 4-Bbm(9) 5-Abm7, as played on screen 6-Db(9) 7- GMaj9, same as GMaj7add9 . Notes: a Dominant 9th Chord is a 9th with a Dominant 7th in the main 7th Chord. A Major 9th Chord is a 9th Chord with a Major 7th on the main 7th Chord. I was practicing your chords and noticed the discrepancy at the last chord where you are playing a Maj9 chord but on the screen it says it is a Maj7: GbMaj7 vs GbMaj9. the onscreen Gbmaj7 ignores the 9th you are playig on top of it. And on your Abm9 you do not actually play the 9th but the Dominant 7th.
